I'm not sure I agree with the assertion that the game backpedals on the first arc by introducing this sort of relationship to the player. It's nowhere near analogous to the Kamoshida's situation, since it's predicated on both parties mutually agreeing to use each other (falling in-line with the rest of the confidants) and Kawakami lays out some reasonable ground rules pretty early on. I actually think it's one of the better confidants, with a strong emotional core, good rapport between Joker/Kawakami nd a genuinely touching ending (also it is obscenely overpowered lmao).
