Yes. Its possible to do almost everything important in 1 run even without any fortune use at all, though it's very close time wise (you have to decide on some minor ish stuff to miss out on, like some of the Hawaii scenes or some of the room items or catching the Guardian, etc and you won't get to see all the post rank 10 scenes)
Fortune just makes things easier / frees up extra time. I ended up spending my last night on my first run doing my own laundry since I'd run out of things to do.
Ah, that's good because, as I said, I'm ignoring some of the confidants (mainly those that required a high social stat to start). As long as I get all the party members done and my social stats maxed I'll be satisfied. Everything else can wait for NG+ where I'll use a guide. Thanks for the reply!
I've been wondering why I haven't been able to get into Persona 5 after P4G blew me away and I can recognise how P5 improves on it in almost every way. Think it's because I've been following one of those spoiler-free guides to max out the social links in the first playthrough, I'll probably ditch that and try discovering everything on my own like I did with my first P4G playthrough. I read that there is a true ending though, on which day should I start worrying about making the right choices for that?

You should do this, yeah. Just focus on getting your five social stats maxed out on your first playthrough, as well as getting the Fortune and Temperance confidants to 10. On your second playthrough and beyond, maxing every confidant will be a piece of cake.
Question regarding the Persona series in general this is not my first Persona game but I always wondered what dictates the line of questioning in the classrooms? Are they usually Japanese oriented due to the origin of the game? Would it be best to just google all the answers?

You can press the touch pad to see the answers most people chose during those segments.
And yes, they're usually Japanese oriented because it's a Japanese game, and the localization doesn't make brand new questions. At least, certainly not in this case.

Can someone answer my question? I'm currently on the late game dungeon
Shido's Palace and I'm wondering if I get to the Treasure if the calendar will skip ahead and I'll lose a month just like the penultimate dungeon of Persona 4 or will it let me play out the rest of the month like Sae's Palace?

the depths of Mementos trying to steal the heart of the public.
It's a prison and Morgana is acting weird. Shite is about to go down... I can feel it.
I did some stuff prior with free time though and I have a few questions.
It seems like i'm nearing the end... like really nearing the end so can I still max out Makoto? I got to rank 9 with her and romanced her... even having romanced Ann prior...
since I started to appreciate Makoto so much as a character. Can I still go back? Don't say so with spoilers... just a simple yes or no, thanks! I'd assume the answer is yes...
as the calendar still has a ton of days left.
Also, I think I'm missing a confidant... something about an
arcade cheater in Ahkihabara. How do I activate this quest? It's been there for awhile now.

Damn, in December now and I reckon I could have maxed all confidants in this first playthrough if I hadn't wasted days on fishing, baseball, crafting etc, and just reloaded after getting the trophies.

this past weekend I missed out on 100% maxed confidants by just one more interaction on the final possible day. Level 9 Yusuke with an "UP!" on the map. I don't feel too bad though because I was planning on playing NG+
This is my first Persona game (not my first SMT one, I have played IV before) and I'm going through this blind. Game date is 8/24.
I absolutely loved Futaba's Palace. It was relatively short (at least, compared to Kaneshiro's run-around at first), but maybe that's because I like doing puzzles like that.
At the moment I'm just focusing on social stats (maxed out Knowledge/Proficiency/Kindness, Guts is Rank 4, Charm is Rank 3) and certain Confidants I'm interested in. I know social stats carry over to NG+ so I figure I'd save a max social link run for that, but my question is thus:
What carries over to NG+ aside from social stats? And does any ending count (like can I choose to get the bad ending and still get a NG+?)
Did anybody beat the Reaper for the first time legitimately, or did everyone get that trophy from flu season?
As it's NG+ I thought I'd take advantage, and boost up high enough to fuse
Satanael
without having to spend any money. I stopped last night at around level 80, and with a lot of best weapons and high level persona, still haven't seen anybody hit him for more than 50 damage in a single hit. An all-out attack did 85 damage.
Compendium, money, equipment (accessories, armour, weapons) and skill cards. I'd imagine it works with any ending but there's no good reason not to get the real ending in your first play.
Then you're not blocked by what I thought you were. What rank are you with Sojiro ? He's just very slow to rank up until Rank 5 and you have to make coffee at one point to advance his link so try that. And you can't rank past 5 until after Palace 4.
I'm either rank 3 or 4, need to check. Already did the coffee thing. Morgana says something's bothering him and its related to the other guy that appears in his social link.
Completed the second burger challenge and got 2 points for 4 stats, nice!
Is the confidant at the
church
worth prioritizing over others? I still don't have the necessary charm, though I also need to raise it to advance the death arcana which is curently at level 7. Gonna focus on that now since I finally have the necessary knowledge for Makoto. These girls are picky
Thanks.
Right now perks that allow me to progress confidants faster feel like a bigger priority to me.
I just wish I'd known that the Fortune Arcana would force me to take a trip into mementos since I had been there recently to clear the requests I had piled up, only time slot I feel I've wasted up until now.
Gave the reaper a shot (currently at level 28), he started the fight by using charge followed by a skill that is literally called "one shot kill" on the MC. Shortest fight ever lol.
Well I finally finished this bad boy, and after a slow start, I really enjoyed this iteration.
Everything was just so incredibly well polished, and the story really tackled some adult stuff beyond what 3 and 4 did. Really enjoyed my teammates except maybe for Haru. The side characters IMO weren't super strong, but I did enjoy that they had actual missions tied to them in Mementos, really felt like you were helping them out as opposed to going on fetch quests.
Also, it wasn't until almost to the end when I realized that each persona had a background page, really fun stuff to read through if you get a chance
Tae Takemi and Makoto were by far my favorite romance options, with Hifumi a close runner up
Am I supposed to believe Akechi is going to stay with the team permanently? For someone who "sticks by his justice" he's awfully inconsistent. He pushes for you to rig all the games in your favor (which I'm OK with, I mean if they were games worth playing that' d be one thing...), and he's totally full of himself. Very unlikable, especially compared to the rest of hte cast. To be honest I think he's doing this to get notoriety from catching "the phantom thieves", although I'm not sure yet what his long-game is. He may be telling the truth about wanting to catch the real baddie, but I think he's exaggerating about why. He's the primary instigator in all the palace stuff so far, which is weird when it seems like Makoto/Futaba or even Ryuji would be in a better position to suggest rigging things.
Nobody is commenting on the fact that the safe rooms in the casino still look like a casino, while all the others reverted to normal-looking. It's the kind of thing I could see a dev overlooking, but that seems pretty important in the context of the way the MC was "yanked" out of the metaverse when caught in the beginning. There's some weird stuff going on implying that metaverse/real-world overlap is happening.
More concerning is the way Joker is starting to get blackouts/fadeouts, sometimes during story content. It's not clear whether he's failing to remember things or whether someone else is in control during those times... it reminds me a little of what was happening to P3 Protag towards the end. I assume all will be explained.
Never played Persona before but I love RPG's. I don't like turn based combat because it's too difficult most of the time for newcomers (how's this game? I know it's turn based as well).
Would you say I'd like Persona 5 because I loved Catherie (the game ...you know)? Catherine was not an RPG but 60% was text, story and dialogue.

Man, the maxed Strength confidant perk is super OP. I'm
level 56 and I have two personas that are level 77 and 81. It's quite forgiving at this point in the game because money is pretty easy to come by at this point, especially because there are other confidant perks that give you more money.

You don't need to grind, but the combat is mechanically a little less forgiving and more complicated than that of most other turn-based RPGs I've played. You might want to consider playing on Easy. Either that, or start on Normal and then switch to Easy if it's too hard for you. The game starts off hard for its first few dungeons, but gets easier as you get stronger, because the difficulty curve doesn't seem to keep up with your growth rate.
There are a few things in Persona games that are most other RPGs I've played:
- There are times when doing nothing and pressing "Defend/Guard" is the best course of action. For example, sometimes a boss may look like they're charging something big and in those cases, you should probably defend.
- Retreat is sometimes also the best course of action.
- Status effects, buffs, and instant kill moves generally have more importance and impact, both you and your enemies (you can get instakilled, especially if your Persona is weak to that element).
- It's game over if the MC dies in combat. This isn't so bad in boss fights because you get to restart the boss fight right away, but if you die in normal combat then you can only reload from the previous save room, which may result in lost progress.
- Sometimes you can get unexpectedly oneshotted if you miss a telegraph and get killed by either a big attack that you were supposed to guard against, or getting twoshotted in quick succession.
- Hitting an enemy's elemental weakness or critting doesn't just do extra damage in this game, but it also grants whoever did it with an extra turn. This is great if it happens to you, but enemies can get this bonus turn too. This means that if an enemy hits your elemental weakness, they get a bonus turn and they might finish you off right there. So it's important to make sure you don't use a Persona that's overly weak against whatever you're facing.
I'm not done this game yet, but the story is EXCELLENT so far. It starts off slow and pretty formulaic, but it's still enjoyable. And then it gets even better after that. If you liked Catherine's focus on plot, then this is on the same level of quality, if not better. It also has a heavy emphasis on story too, though the dungeon runs are also quite long (but aren't meant to be finished in one sitting).
For a turn based battle system, P5 is incredibly snappy and responsive. Being able to auto attack enemy weaknesses (once you have learned them) with R1 saves a lot of time, and if you are going to perform an All out attack by pressing Triangle you don't even have to wait for the prompt to show up for it to register.
Then if you hold Triangle after the battle, it speeds thru the results and gets you back into the dungeon crawling faster.
Holding Triangle will also speed thru conversations in the game.
One battle system QOL thing I'd like to see in a P6 or P5 Crimson would be a better way to display what spells you have across all the Personas you are carrying, sorted into a list. It gets difficult especially with buff/debuffs remembering who has what.
Also really wish on the Fusion screen where you are picking out spells to carry over, if you could bring up a list of what you already have so you can better decide what to carry over.

I wouldn't mind compendium fusion. I hated going through the process of getting each persona into the party and then fusing and repeating all the time. Wish there was a better way they could work out

with all the strides SMTIV made to make fusion friendly I was surprised to see none of that make it here. Compendium fusion and possible fusion searching in SMTIV were so good.
Apocalypse did this thing (I'm assuming SMT IV did it too but can't remember) where you could do the special fusions without needing the necessary empty slots - it just allowed you to buy and instantly fuse the demons you needed.
It's a minor thing, but it was a pain in the dick having to clear my Persona stock to free up 5/6 spaces for some of the group guillotine fusions - especially if I forgot which arcana one of the required persona was (as the game inexplicably wont let you filter the compendium alphabetically).
I know that Devil Survivor 2 had a super useful search feature, but I didn't know it was in other games too.
I'm kinda surprised it's not in P5 too, though I'm already pretty happy with being able to manually choose inherited skills. The ability to lock compendium personas and multi-select personas for registration is already really nice, though.
Just finished after 105 hours and have some thoughts:
- the Igor reveal was great and totally unexpected
- The way they killed off Akechi was kind of anti-climatic
- between Haru joining the team so late and her s-link being gated I ended up just ignoring her completely in order to max out some others that I had already started.
- Futaba being a romance option seemed a bit creepy since they made her out to be a little sister type the whole time and she was younger than MC as well
- Makoto the best
- The Morgana storyline ending was OK but a bit underwhelming in the end.
- I thought it was weird how most of the Shido stuff was wrapped up off screen, would have been cool to at least get a short cut scene for that
- Overall I really liked the presentation and gameplay of P5 but still liked the plot and characters of P4G better. One day soon I am finally going to play P3 FES.
