Persona 5 Won't Be Out In North America Until February 2017

Plus, it's coming out significantly later than the Japanese release anyway. The main problem was it had dual audio and it came out really close to the Japanese release, so they were afraid of people importing from the US instead of paying the ridiculous yen price.

Overall I don't think it was worth it. I can't imagine Persona 4 Arena sold that well over here considering it came out like a year later. All the buzz had gone. I'd forgotten I even had a pre-order when it turned up, and proceeded to just not play it because I was busy playing other things by then.

Yeah, I think Persona 5 would already be in Japanese bargain bins by the time February rolls around. It still sucks that the European situation is what it is for Atlus fans, but at least they can have a chance to play it at the same time for some extra dough.

They won't know what we want unless we tell them, and Hardin has already asked for feedback on things like that especially because they're not finalized yet.

Pretty sure the artists can decide what looks cool without a bunch of fans messaging them about their favorite characters.

What would really take the sting out of this 2017 date is a playable demo.

Will the steelbook edition come with a slipcover so the spine will be consistent with my other PS4 games? Sort of like what Valkyria Chronicles Remastered came with. It would drive me crazy if it didn't!

Also, disappointed, but not at all unexpected that the game won't have dual audio out of the box. It's an Atlus game, after all. What seems to work for most other companies doesn't for them. While it's not a dealbreaker for me (I won't skip a title for lacking a feature the previous games also lacked), I do hope that they're able to put it up as DLC. I'm more than willing to pay for it!

Why would you even want a demo for a game like this? The combat system doesn't seem to differ that much from P4 and I'd rather not have more story spoilers than necessary.

Give us the first chapter of the story, I'd be fine with that. Hell, Atlus themselves have already spoiled all the characters just from the trailers. And I'm not sure you can say the combat is the same when no one has played it. Sure, it's still Press Turn, but there's probably changes. I just want a taste of the P5 vibe to tide me over.

More upset we're not getting the 20th anniversary that Japan got.

Yeah, honestly it hasn't felt like much of a celebration from Atlus USA.

I'm not complaining about the western LE price, but it's a lot less than I expected in the first place. After seeing how garbage some $200+ AAA limited editions extras have ended up, I worry how far an extra $30 goes toward a plush doll, school bag, art book, soundtrack, and all the packaging materials.

Yeah they're just extras, but hopefully Atlus doesn't get cheap on things like the build of the bag and plush.

Fuck this sucks.

1) No way I can avoid being spoiled in that 5 month window

2) 2016 is barren for me now as FFXV is the only release I'm looking forward to. And even that seems like it won't live up to the hype cause of the Platinum demo and open-world structure that'd probably get boring fast.

Bruh. Our games have literal penis demons in them. The closest an ATLUS game has ever come to a mainstream success previously is Catherine, which, well. Just google "Catherine ATLUS" and you'll get the point. I think you can relax a bit.

Oh, and before you throw #FE in my face, remember: ATLUS is the publisher of Persona 5. Atlus is NOT the publisher of #FE.

Got em

I have a horrible feeling I'm going to own a copy of this game from every region! Ah, damn re: release date. I don't mind the wait, it's more an issue of trying to dodge spoilers for six months.

Not surprising in the least. Certainly disappointing, though. I do have to give them props for picking Valentines Day, as it goes with the "Take Your Heart" theme they've been pushing for the game.

I actually prefer this collector's edition over the one Japan is getting. All the stuff included is the type of stuff I like in CEs, and I'm especially hoping the bag is of decent quality, because I can see myself getting some decent use out of it. The only thing that worries me is that we won't get the vanilla case with the collector's edition, as that art work looks friggin' fantastic. Apparently the steelbook art isn't final, but I doubt it'll be better than the standard art.

Why are EU people complaining so much? I mean unless they pull a Persona 4 Arena can't you just buy the US version from Amazon?

I wonder how Americans would react if the situation was the other way around and we would just tell them to suck it up and import. I bet most of you wouldn't be so calm then.
Also I already said it quite often, but despite Atlus mistreatment of Europe I actually want this game to succeed. It's really difficult to recommend this game to more casual friends of mine though if I have to tell them that they have to import the game to play it.

Except DOAX3 doesn't count, because we don't actually know what would happen if the game was brought to the West, or if "moral panic" is really the legit reason why we haven't gotten it. And Star Ocean 5 is the one example I could come up with. (And they aren't anywhere near "granny panties" unless you have little knowledge of what women's panties look like.)

So, basically, you only have one solid example making your case, and it's a hugely minor example.

You could give him a break. He did have an example. Also there are a few more. That's besides the point though. You can't just discount an entire publishing and console arm(Nintendo) and then expect someone to rattle off the results. The fact that an entire console and publisher has to be removed from the equation to narrow down the results from a staggering number is already sad.

Welcome to owning Nintendo hardware in the US during the Wii/DS years.

You have no idea how fucking quickly I'd trade away Excite Bots and Mario Super Slugger for anything else.

I hope it succeeds too but the reality of things is that Atlus doesn't have much presence in Europe, Sega doesn't seem to want to interfere with Atlus' business and localization in Europe is whole different thing than in the Americas. You have to do it in a bunch of languages whereas here only big budget games are available in something other than English. This applies to Latin America.

I mean, I don't think Persona 5 will be translated in Spanish and be readily available at retailers so I'll get it on Amazon. It's just the reality of these games when you're not in Japan or the US.

Ehm.. I don't know why people keep thinking that, but Atlus games (and 90% of other Japanese niche games from the likes of NISA or Marvelous) are usually NOT translated into other European languages other than English. Unless it's a big AAA title it's a myth that every game here has to be translated into the main European languages. They are mostly 100% identical to the US release which is why it is so ridiculous that a game like SMT4 needed a year to come to Europe although it was exactly the same game as the US version.

It's not like the DS years were the best for Europe either. I admit that I am not too familiar with the Wii but from the top of my head these DS games were never officially released in Europe:

Radiant Historia
Etrian Odyssey II
Etrian Odyssey III
999
All Digimon World DS games
DQ Heroes Rocket Slime
Front Mission DS
Knights in the Nightmare
Luminous Arc 2
Rune Factory 2
Rune Factory 3
Sands of Destruction
Trauma Center Under the Knife 2

Except that Persona 4 was english only here. Most of the niche games are english only anyway.

I'm assuming it is delayed this long because a P4 Golden remaster is coming out soon.

Right?

RIGHT?!?!?!?1

Wait.. Why would you even hypothetically want this? The game looks great on Vita as is and Atlus would probably do a P3 + P4 remaster after P5 instead of just remastering Golden.

Then the only complaint is the fact that you can't purchase it in stores? (and well, the fear of region lock which honestly would make me uneasy)

I mean, you pretty much have to import anything niche or go to a specialized retailer if you're south of the US border so maybe I'm used to it by now, but besides the language thing (which apparently is a non issue) and the region lock (which is definitely one and if it happens again I'll take everything I have said back) what is the big problem? I mean it's not like buying things off amazon is hard, slow or expensive these days.

So the Collector's Edition comes with a small cd sampler, a plush I'll never display, a small artbook, a bag that I'd probably never use, a steelbook that I don't necessarily care for, and a "colossal" collector's box. I think I'll just get the standard edition and see if I can import a full cd/artbook from japan at some point in the future.

My complaint is that Atelier Sophie is coming this week in the US and EU. Atelier Sophie.

Atlus, after decades, still can't figure out how to bring their games to Europe. Not even for their biggest game: a mainline console Persona. Every niche dev/pub can and have been doing what Atlus hasn't been able to do ever. And now that Atlus is owned by SEGA, it somehow got even worse for some unknown reason.

Don't have a vita.

And I have no interest in playing P3. Persona is a timesink. I'm not gonna play both. If they do both, then great!!

But all I want is golden.

Shipping from the US to Europe is actually not cheap if you don't want to wait weeks for your game and if you are unlucky you have to pay customs duties as well.

Besides, Atlus games are the only games that have these issues nowadays. Even a small company as Idea Factory International does it better and they are smaller and younger than Atlus. Just look at this post:
