Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth announced for 3DS (p3/p4/chibi spinoff, EO-ish)

Persona 4 Arena is canon, first off. There is no question about that.

But I don't have an issue with it being non-canon, what I have an issue with is claiming that it's a sign that Persona is slowly moving towards being a Nintendo platform series.

Unless the Wii U steps up, I highly doubt mainline Persona games would come to Nintendo.

Oh man, the meltdowns on that first page. This game sounds amazing. If I ever get a 3DS again, it will be for this. Love the Persona Q 60's/Willy Wonkaish font.

I don't think anyone should expect the series to be PlayStation forever. There are new realities, and if these Japanese companies want to make money, they'll rise to meet them. One of those realities is the dying home console market and the rising handheld market; one of the core handhelds is the 3DS, not Vita. It's a symptom of changing times.

If you're so emotionally connected to the idea it'll be PlayStation forever, at some point in the future, you're going to be disappointed

It was obvious THIS new Persona 5 would be on a PS platform, but the times are a-changin'. I consider Persona Q a nod to that fact.

I think there is a difference between "persona games can be on 3DS too" and "slowly moving towards being a Nintendo platform series".

I could possibly at least see them doing rereleases of P3 and P4.
I mean they sure do love their rereleases and you could "technically" have a whole new audience giving out the money for it.

But in actuality I bet that this Persona Q thing will be what we see on 3DS. Much like how Project Mirai is Hatsune miku on 3DS.

I can somewhat agree with this. I'm not emotionally invested with the Persona series being on PlayStation platforms at all, but I still don't see any near future where Persona 6 is a 4DS exclusive or something weird like that.

In terms of main Persona games, I don't think it will ever be limited to a handheld.

I don't disagree with the former. My response, though, was specifically referring to the poster's talk about Persona 5.

Who says Nintendo will ever make a device again that will only act as a handheld? ;)

It may be. It may be mobile phone exclusive. Or just multiplatform, with 4DS and Mobile Phones included.

That greatly depends on the health of the consoles, I'd wager. I don't know how much it sells in the West, but I'd submit most of the sales are Japanese in nature, and the series must follow systems that are thriving

Yep. This game is a test, after the good sales of SMT4 if this sold well I wouldn't exclude a mainline game in the future.

I expect this game to sell pretty well considering that it is "an EO style dungeon crawler" using P3&4 as the main cast. Throw in the large 3DS install base in Japan as well a we have a fair shot like you said to have a P6 in the future.
Once this is announced for NA, day one for me. I love me some dungeon crawlers and I've been waiting for Persona to finally appear on a Ninty system

I'm glad that Atlus does what Square-Enix won't.

So many 3DS RPG's from them. SMT main series, Persona, Etrian Odyssey... al I need is a Devil Survivor 3 and Atlus becomes my favourite 3DS third party publisher. Or well, Sega whatever.

Nintendo of Europe, I need me a release date for SMT IV next year dangit

Never say never. We have already seen mainline DQ and MH appearing in the DS/3DS

So this is basically Etrian Odyssey: Persona Edition.

Well, I don't have much room to complain about that; artstyle not-withstanding, it'll still most likely end up being another good JRPG for the 3DS library.

We got Etrian Odyssey: Persona Edition and Project Diva: Persona Edition.

I am okay with this.

They still need to get Devil Survivor 2 Break Record out first. So I don't know when DS3 will get made if they are even planning in it.

To add to the BlazBlue: Persona Edition we already have.

I wait for the Call of Duty: Persona Edition for the Xbone. They need to expand the market, after all.

It's weird though that they went with the Chibi-style. Why is that? Does it cover up the technical limitations of the 3DS or something, or is it more to distinguish itself from the mainline series?

lol people are so salty on the first few pages

I guess this was the first thing they announced? I think this game looks neat. Hope it gets localized.

It follows the Nintendo Direct curve;

"OMG THIS SUCKS"

"WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO YOUR FANS ATLUS WTF"

"I WANTED A REAL GAME"

"OH YES IT'S FINALLY HERE BASED ATLUS"

*end broadcast*

Obviously I'm way more excited for P5 itself but this is nice little spinoff. Using EO as a base is a good call. I love EO.

It's a stylistic choice since it's EO inspired...the idea that 3DS can't handle realistic proportioned character models is laughable.

Also, it's not like the models in the mainline Persona are realistically proportioned.

They are? At least the Character arts are.

I have nothing against chibi, but art style changes are so ugh. Anyway, I will certainly buy this game, it seems to be pretty fun. And I wouldn't call it non-canon as some people here ;) They can always give an excuse for the characters not remembering each other in Arena, like losing their memories or something like that. Actually, I think the "PQ is non-canon" claim is mostly because people don't like how the game looks like.
