Peter moore interview, were some leaks intended?

PM: Yeah, so when the front photograph of the 360 leaked out, there was immediately thousands of people giving their opinion and so as disaapointed as I was that something got out that I didn't want to get out, I was fascinated to read the reaction. And the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Even the Sony fanboys were going, "You know what? We've just lost our advantage." :lol

not only were some leaks intended.. it was quite annoying how microsoft was trying to blatantly manipulate people with their marketing tactics. ..

meh.

the system does look cool though.

LOL is right. "We've just lost our advantage." sounds like PR talk not fanboy talk and what advantage was lost exactly? When the pics were leaked no one knew what the PS3 looked like so it would be stupid to assume that it was an aesthetic advantage that was lost. Heck, most people hated the design of the new Xbox when it was shown. Quite a few of the Xbox fanboys were crying "fake" or "I hope this is fake". I was probably one of the few people that liked it.

I take it the 'D' word is 'delusional', then...

Why? Did any idiot out there believe the ourcolony.net thing wasn`t just a blatant advertisement? And how is seeing a possibly leaked picture or information about an upcoming console "manipulating" people? Nobody is forcing you to believe or care about any "leaked" information.

Poor Peter Moore,he makes no secret that if Xbox360 fails he's fired :D :lol
And also....this guy seems obsessed by Sony,he costantly try to make (lame) comparisons in every aswer even if it's not needed.

:lol quick someone do a search for which fanboy said it! :lol

M$ reps live in a world of their own. If you look past the reactions to art assets such as the PGR3 offline renders and the Joanna Dark headshot the public response to M$' leaks has been overwhelmingly indifferent and sometimes even negative. As for the Xbox 360 design it looks amateurish to say the least.

someone's quick, post that Penny Arcade comic.

Interview in brief:

"We fucked up and people leaked all that we had all over the place [=Device front, name, logo, publishers, developers, screenshots, games etc.]. But we leaked stuff too on purpose [=Ourcolony] and I bet you can't tell which was which."

Is it a bad thing that I read that Moore quote and didn't even take a second notice that he had said 'fanboys'?

The last two generations have kind of stagnated with growth and if you look over the years for our industry you see a chart that goes like that

<looks at Sony's PSOne consoles sales and notes how much quicker the PS2 is getting to that level>

Ummm Did I miss something?

At least he's right that most developers will say MS offers the best dev support... just as a single factor that's great.. but it's not the only factor... but he's wrong in saying Sony doesn't show it's consoles to developers before it's unveiling... it's just a much tighter knit and smaller circle.

PM: Look at it this way. If we lose again, it doesn't matter because you'd be talking to somebody else here.

I'd like him to define lose.

PM: So backwards compatibility is simple. No console has ever been fully backwards compatible. PS2 is not fully backwards compatible with PSone games. There are a lot of games... the list of titles is in the hundreds

There are THAT many non compatible PSOne games? I remember IGN use to do a list... but I haven't seen it recently.... anybody know where a list is?

So backwards compatibility is important early on—very important.

True....

You know this inteview really bounces between good info... and WTF stuff.

And yeah there were some things that showed up that we knew were going to show up and there were things that drove me freaking crazy.

I'm guessing that most of the leaks were not intentional. I do agree with him about the positive reactions on the forums. Most of us really liked the look of the 360 when we first saw it. Of course, the name "360" started off negative, but once you understand the marketing behind it, the name really becomes very good. Most of us were afraid it was another attempt at targeting the extreme skater dudes... and luckily MS was smarter than that.

but he's wrong in saying Sony doesn't show it's consoles to developers before it's unveiling... it's just a much tighter knit circle.

No... Sony did not show the console to devs months before the show. Maybe weeks, but not months. And I'm sure they never gave anything physical to them. Probably just a courtesy "hey come by our office and check out our design".

Hey jm the quote is: "Sony, like I said, I guarantee you that they never showed that to anybody. "

That statement is incorrect.

Now if we're talking about soliciting developer input on what they'd like to see hardware do? All manufacturers do that, hell even Sega did that... Can we get down in to exactly how much hand holding each hardware manufacturer does with those it considers to be its key developers? Nope, because we'll never know.

No hardware manufacturer developers in a complete vacuum, there are however varying degrees of info that are passed down and back and forth to various developers and back up.

So.... who is owned more by Peter's statement. GAF.... The Sony Fanboys, or Microsoft Fanboys? I'm confused. :(

I think there is an ownage paradox swirling, gaining energy that will soon devour everyone!

If MS was so secure about thier console design, why did they leak the other 20 possibilities on the internet?

It was almost like saying .. "This isn't dull and uninspired ...look how bad it could've been!"

This wasnt leaked at all. It was part of the Times mag article.

I love this guy and Allard. The XBOX guys are very dynamic and reveal a lot. Nintendo sort of has the same thing with Reggie but he spends way more time BSing...
