Not sure about the rest of the world but you'd be surprised. Here in spain we use it all the time (always among friends of course) and nobody, black people included, give it a second thought. Then again, our society isn't meaningfully racist against black people, which probably plays a big role in the matter.

Funnily enough, among the people that I know at least, we use the word because we've seen it in american blaxploitation movies from the 80s and 90s, rap music and games like GTA San Andreas and we always thought it was funny in a "this way to talk is so foreign to us" kinda way.

But even here most people wouldn't say such a thing in public. When it's among friends, we know we have consent and there is no ill will.

Dude, c'mon what the fuck? I've lived in Madrid my whole life and we don't use the n-word "all the time", speak for you and your friends not all of us.

I've only heard it used (multiple times) by my friend's brother who's into rap and not even the young people (18-22) in my uni ever used it, as a matter of fact many of my friends were very well educated as why they shouldn't.

All I am going to say is if you are a European and you post on this site which is in english and has a huge bulk of American posters then you are probably pretty fucking aware of the severity of that word. And just going, "it's not a big deal here" is more about you literally promoting and rejoicing in ignorance (that you are totally aware of) than it is teaching "Americans" that nigger isn't a big deal.

It's changing for the worse. Here in the UK, we currently have a very conservative government (well, they are the Conservative party after all) which goes hand in hand with the current climate here where casual racism is becoming more common. Again, it's hidden behind the pretence of 'plain-speaking' and the white people having a right to free speech.

It's naturally worse in the over 50s but what's worrying is that young people might follow suit.

It's just such a strange thing. So they hear the word in American media. That means they are exposed to American media and as such also know the negative meaning it has when said by someone not black. So why use it?

Then we got Pewdiepie, who has been making English media for over a decade now. So he knows it is a wrong word to use. So why use it then.

Some languages might have a word that looks a bit like it that, but it seems in most countries those are not really used anymore anyway.

Thats not accurate. The thing is the word does not have the same weight in all contries or cultures.
I know very well that "nigger" is an ofensive word, and i never use it, but the word "nigger" is a version of the portuguese and spanish word "negro", and here in Portugal, calling someone "negro" is not ofensive, but calling someone "preto" witch direct translated means "black" is very ofensive and considered racist.
So yeah, as i was learning english i found it a bit confusing as why americans would call african-american ppl as "black ppl" and not be offended by that.
Furthermore the word "nigga" is oversused in media like music rappers and movies, and can lead to younger audience get used to the word as a banal non ofensive word.

So while i know the meaning of the word and understand very well that should not be said as its a racist word, i can very well understand why some ppl may find its not a big deal, and for them its "just a word".

As for PDP itself, his not a kid anymore and his not stupid too, he knows very well the meaning the word has. As a person who have a legion of followers PDP should be much more carefull with the languages he uses.
