PGR3 trailer in 720p

damn :lol just . . . damn.

Jesus could be coming back tomorrow and people would complain about his haircut.

Gah, Jesus comparrisons to PGR3. Stop and Think!

Anyway, I'm pretty freakin' impressed by the video. And there's still a few months between now and launch, so I'm not worried.

After playing PGR2 for the first time, I know that my Christmas list will have the Xbox 360 and PGR3 on it, and nothing else.

He's not comparing Jesus to PGR3, he's mocking people's reactions to things.

I know he's not saying "PGR3 is like the return of Jesus", I'm saying that he's using Jesus to illustrate the complaints people are using about PGR3 are stupid. It's asinine.

It amazes me...this game is going to sell and push 360s by the boat load...as long as they use in-game footage for the ads and do a major marketing blitz...big things for XBOX.

Gorgeous! The hi-def video helps a lot here...

Speaking of which, I tried Syberia for the Xbox on my 16x9 1080i HDTV today for the first time and was really taken by the quality of its hi-def visuals, especially during the movie cutscenes. While watching them, I realized that it's quite likely that THAT'S how good next-gen games will look on my setup, and I couldn't help but get a bit excited about the remarkable jump in graphical quality that will be possible simply by shifting to HD.

I mean it really is more than hype when you see it on your own TV...

OT question... I don't think the set I just referred to does 720p (even though it does 1080i... maybe I am wrong, but it didnt seem to work w/ Soul Calibur 2). Will Xbox 360 / PS3 games run in 1080i or will I be stuck playing them in 480p??

you misspelled 'applicable'. :) and you have absolutely no basis for which to call my comparison 'asinine'.

Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, it was asinine. It's typical hyperbole to prove a point, however dimwitted it was. In this case your point is "people will complain about anything". But, did you stop to think - well, videos are MEANT to be criticized? They show you a game. It's an impression you get. Some people will like it, others will not. If JESUS FUCKING RETURNED, the circumstances would be much different than that of simple freakin' video being released for public consumption. It was an asinine statement, and yes... I am being hostile because of it. And PGR3 is not impervious to this, and in fact is even MORE prone to it because it's a launch game. There should be no implication that PGR3 is somehow beyond criticism, like "Jesus returning" would be. But twist it how you like, brotha.

m0dus said:
hell, I'd say, if anything, your response was. watch the hostility, and don't take shit too seriously. People here are prone to overreact, and you're just proving that point.

I do take this particular subject seriously, you're right.

WTF?

I'm running an Athlon XP 3000+ (2.1Ghz Barton core) with 512MB and a Gforce 4 4200 with 64MBs.

This video runs smooth as silk.

How can people with much better machines be running into problems? That's weird man.

I'm sure games will give you the option, but too bad you didn't get a 720p set. 720p is so, so much better than 1080i.

You can choose 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i at the dashboard and the xbox will scale it

When I bought my HDTV (which is 1080i, not 720p) I couldn't even tell the difference through moving video.

Obviously, some people are more sensitive to it than others. But then again, there's some people who claim to not even be able to tell whether something is HD or not. So! For me, it's the difference between night and day.

Ok... so.. if people saw a video of jesus returning, then they would complain about his haircut...

This is my old HDTV (like 3 years or so...). I have a newer, 4x3 one that does 720p for certain...

Actually, here's the set:

http://www.hdtvpub.com/productdb/televisions/televisionreviews.cfm?manu=RCA∏=F38310&tvnum=735

This seems to suggest that it DOES do 720p, since it says "720p is Displayed As: 720p". Maybe I need to research this more...

My other set is a Sony WEGA :

http://hdtvpub.com/productdb/televisions/televisionreviews.cfm?manu=Sony&prod=KV36HS510&tvnum=991

This suggests that this set doesn't do true 720p.

WTF.

Help?!?

When I tried setting my dashboard to 720p & booted up Soul Calibur 2, though, I got a bad signal... it's weird that it didn't work, yet it worked on my other TV in hi-res mode (it might have been windowboxed though...).

I was talking about xbox 360, but yeah your tv probably doesn't accept a 720p signal. Xbox1 only lets you output at the resolutions supported by the game, but the 360 has a built in scaler so you can output at whatever res you want. So if your TV doesn't accept 720p the 360 can scale it to 1080i for you.

Ha ha ha. But seriously, what I'm saying is videos are released for the sole purpose to garner interest/give people an early look/show people what your titles feature. By its very nature it's going to receive criticism. My problem was only with the type of hyperbole used to illustrate his point, and that the point itself was "asinine". But we're past that now :P

m0dus said:
Oh holy, shit, you think? Then you need to use that incentive, take the initiative, and calm the hell down. It's fucking hyperbole, amir0x, get a clue. or, better yet, develop a sense of humor, or simply place me on ignore. No loss to the world either way, and the disposition of your soul remains intact. It would be quite a bit better than taking the statement COMPLETELY the wrong way, and looking like an ass in the process.

I have a clue. My personal point was that the thing you used for your hyperbole was silly, and that the point behind it was even more so. You obviously disagree. I'm always hostile in discussions, so now we both have something to be offended about :P On that note, I apologize if it appeared as some sort of personal attack, or if you were offended. I just had a significant disagreement with the way you presented your point, and the point itself.

m0dus said:
edit; I'm not saying that PGR is somehow beyond criticism, or akin to the SECOND COMING, I'm saying certain people are willing to pass global generalizations based on very little of what they see. and I'm also disagreeing with the poster's statement that the cars look unimpressive. yeesh.

Of course. However, movin' to the specific example of how this started I don't know how you determined that what anyone was saying was a "global generalization." It was, it appeared to me, an opinion based on what was shown in the video. Now while you and me clearly disagree with this (and wtf, how could anyone be disappointed? That shit looks Gold) I don't see any of the sort of things you're saying here. At least, not from Inertia.

Well, that's actually pretty good news, then... I am glad I'll be able to play hi-res 360 games on it, at least. Really, Soul Calibur 2's the only Xbox game I have that runs in 720p (besides Syberia, which fortunately works in 1080i too), so it's not a big deal (especially since I can play that on my other set, if I felt the need).

Thanks...

It was geared more toward the general naysayers. Alright. I can respect hostility in discussions. I enjoy being an ass myself, I'm not too ashamed to admit :) I agree I think the game looks swank as shit. I just get . . . tired . . . of people who set their expectations BEYOND high, beyond what can be delivered, and poo poo whatever they see--even if said example is lightyears ahead of anything we have now.

I agree that people have expectations too high. Although I wouldn't call anything we've seen so far "lightyears ahead" (and isn't that the reason people complain? They want PSX to DC era jump -_-), I think that especially in the case of PGR3 it's exactly the type of amazing visuals I'd expect from the next-gen... especially launch. It's really impressive any way you look at it, in my opinion.

Although, I think expectations can be tempered with a bit of optimism. Games are only going to look much better from here on out :D

First off I have to say after seeing this vid at 60fps and in Hi Res has blown me away and has secured pgr3 to my most anticipated title. Seeing that amazing city blow by with such fluid motion makes it looks like its about to jump out of the screen. Just amazing.

Now for those who dont understand why some people might have a distaste for the cars(I personaly like the style), I am pretty sure its becuase they just have not nailed the lighting....yet.

I agree...Reading some of the posts here makes me wonder how some of these crybabies ever manage to suffer through current-gen games. Oh the humanity!

my wonder is if the game has more improvement left in it!

They still have to recieve finals, maybe a bit more.

EDIT: I'm glad people who were on the 30/60 debate own up to it and now see this game for how good it looks

I say they are getting closer. ;)

THE MOTION BLUR EFFECT IS SIMPLY AWESOME!!

GAHHH!!!!

Yes, it does look unfinished, and it reminded me of the PGR1 movies that were featured on early MS Xbox games "demo sample" portions. I think Halo had a movie of PGR on it, and if you compare it to the finished game (which did come out at/near launch), there was a world of difference!

I just hope that BC DOES keep it at 60 fps. Really, I could do without the crowds if it meant the game running at 60 fps. We'll see what factors will affect this.

PGR2 going to 30fps was probably due to some decisions in using pixel shaders to such an advanced degree (cars self shadows), or because it used AA. I think after that point they decided to stick with 30fps, while originally going for 60. And so this game seems to be going at 60, and until they finish up the lighting and stuff, unless some effect really hits the console, I can see it staying at 60fps.

FINALLY! REAL, GOOD reflections that run at 60hz. GT4's reflections were smooth, but looked like shit. These are nice, crisp, accurate(except other cars still aren't reflected, but that is a minor point), and A60 hz.

Also, the motion blur is fantastic looking. It's so subtle but it helps it so much.

Just noticed...there is a shot near the beggining running at 30hz. Kindof odd for that to be there.

EDIT - One last thing. To show that you can infact tell a difference in smoothness in a 30 and 60hz clip, even when the medium your viewing it on is 30hz(ie, the cam corder videos from the conference), go back and watch the previous recordings of this that were 30hz, and look at the transition from the shot near the beggining of the front of the f430, to the interior shot. The front shot is 30hz, and the interior is 60. You can, in fact, tell a difference. It's not obvious, but it is there.

look closer you'll see the side effects of a rush job - poor animation, the lighting still isn't right, the city, like another posted, is like a cardboard cut out. XB360 & PS3 is capable of much more than that video shows...
Why don't you just kill yourself, then, because honestly I've never seen a more realistic looking game in my life, and I don't think it's going to get any better than that for a long time.

No really, do it. And stop killing my buzz!

Nice one Blim, thanks. Awesome video.

The 60fps vid run like shit on my 2800+ AMD, 1gig and 6600GT when using mediaplayer or winamp. But with PowerDVD it run just fine.

Not impressed myself. Looked better in that crappy low res video posted yesterday. The lighting is 'meh' and the cars just don't look good. I do like the interior view though.

Then again the only next gen stuff I've been impressed with is GoW and the Sony E3 demos.
Everything else is a minor leap over current PC/console stuff.
How much fucking stimulation do your goddamn eyeballs need, killjoy? WTF are you playing that even looks HALF that convincing? World of Warcraft?

Blimblim, were you going to make a smaller res 60fps video?? :D
Yeah that was the plan but for some reason it only encoded the audio.
Did I mention I hate WMV files ?
I'll give it another try now.

And did WE mention that Blimblim rocks? :)

Ok that kinda sounded fruity.

Thanks for the vid, ran fine on my mid-range comp.

HDTV snobz - Quit saying 720p owns 1080i - it's not that simple. 720p, when displaying native 720p content, in perfect circumstances and through a digital connector, is "better." But even videophiles can't always see the difference and on CRTs it's moot.

This isn't for you Wario - you obviously know your shit, I'm just reinforcing the point for HD neophytes: 1080i is fuckin' awesome, especially if you're moving up from regular TV. 1080i is also a very, very nice target for budget players, since CRTs are down to like $300 now at the low end.

If you have squillions of dollars, go nuts. If you're broke and thinking of getting a "cheap" HD set - 1080i looks ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME AS 720p and on a CRT usually looks exactly the same.

You all gonna jump on me but I don't give a damn so I'm gonna say it. The game that was captured at the time of creating that trailer was running at 30fps.

I'm still crossing my fingers that this would be bumped up to 60fps.

While I understand your sentiments, I prefer 720p sets to 1080i because of it's rock solid image stability. The interlacing "wiggle" bothers me on the 1080i CRT sets (even the almighty XBR960). And this is after playing games extensively on my parents' 1080i Sony 34HS420.

Having said that, I would not hesitate to recommend 1080i CRT sets to those who only have 480i sets and would like to move up for less than a G. The only problem is if X360 internally only renders 720p and let's it's display chip scale the image up, the IQ might suffer slightly.

You can tell that some parts of that trailer's source is 30fps and others are 60fps. We'll see how it goes.

I don't know. I'm just not impressed with PGR3 and most next gen stuff. PSX/N64 blew me away when they were released. So did DC and PS2. What's I'm seeing now is lacking the leap that I've grown accustomed too.
(add RE5 to the list of games that have sport that next gen quality)
