Phantasy Star Portable 2 takes place three years after the events of Phantasy Star Universe, all four races defeated and sealed off the SEED. However, a new issue takes the center stage, the resources in Gurhal are quickly diminishing. Due to this, a Sub-space sailing theory was set in place, where Gurhalians migrate to outer space. After meeting Emilia Percival and fighting your way out of newly discovered ruins, you'll join a private military contractor known as "Little Wing" located on Clad 6, a space colony resort that is operated by the Skyclad Corporation.
Type Extend
Youll be able to customize each type as you see fit with the "Type Extend" and "Customize Abilities" option available at the Type Counter. When you clear a mission you will gain Type Points. As you amass Type Points, they increase your Type Level. Based on your Type Level, you gain a certain amount of "Extend Points" which allows you to customize your Type (Class) even further.
The Type Extend system will use your Extend Points to add additional weapon categories to your class. When you apply these points to a weapon category, you can either increase or decrease the grade. For instance, you can upgrade a C-rank Claw Weapon to B-rank or downgrade it back to C-rank. So with this mix and match system, you could essentially apply the S-rank Sword weapon category to the Force class. However, keep in mind you are still limited by your Photon Art cap. In addition to this, it is impossible to establish S-rank status in all weapon categories.
The "Customize Abilities" option allow you to customize your character even further by equipping passive abilities. For example, you can apply the HP boost or PP boost Ability. There are about 100 different kinds of Abilities. Abilities are limited by the slot system, since each Ability costs a certain amount of slot points. You can only apply a limited amount. Some abilities will cost 1 Slot as others may cost 3. As your Type Level goes up, there will be more Ability Slots available to you.

Humans
Humans have the highest defensive stats - DEF, MND and STA - of any race and can equip and use Mirage blasts from character level 10 onwards. They can exclusively use dark attribute Mirage blasts, but they cannot use light attribute ones.
Newmans
Newmans have especially high PP and TEC, and are highly suited to being Forces. Unfortunately, Newmans have low HP, ATK and DEF, and are not suited to melee combat at all. With the second-highest ACC after CASTs and good PP, Newmans are good with ranged weapons though. Newmans can equip and use Mirage blasts from character level 10 onwards. They can exclusively use light attribute Mirage blasts, but they cannot use dark attribute ones. Since the damage of Mirage blasts is based on TEC, Newmans can do more damage with them than Humans can.
CASTs
CASTs have high ACC, which has a big effect on the damage ranged weapons do, and are particularly suited to being Rangers. Despite being hit easily due to low EVA, CASTs are cut out for melee combat thanks to their high HP, ATK and DEF. CASTs are poor with Technics, and receive heavy damage form them due to their low MND. Despite having the fastest rate of PP recovery, CASTs have the lowest overall PP and thus cannot use many PP-consuming abilities consecutively compared to the other races. CASTs can equip and use SUV weapons from character level 10 onwards. CASTs are the only race able to equip Parts, however, they cannot wear Clothes.
Beasts
Beasts have especially high HP, ATK, and EVA and are suited to being Hunters or Vanguards. Beasts are somewhat poor at firing ranged weapons rapidly and casting Technics due to their low rate of PP recovery. Beasts can use Nanoblasts from character level 10 onwards. They gain new Nanoblast forms at higher levels.
Humans have the highest defensive stats - DEF, MND and STA - of any race and can equip and use Mirage blasts from character level 10 onwards. They can exclusively use dark attribute Mirage blasts, but they cannot use light attribute ones.

Reviews will be added as they are published.
Q. What kind of Phantasy Star game is this?
A. Phantasy Star Portable 2 takes place in the Phantasy Star Universe franchise. It is most comparable to its predecessor, Phantasy Star Portable. It features numerous enhancements and a ton of new content. It also brings back many enemies, weapons and locales from Phantasy Star Online. If you enjoyed PSU or PSP this game is definitely for you.
Q. What's up with the release date?
A. The game has supposedly shipped to retailers today and is currently available on the PlayStation Store (use the search feature!).
Q. How does death work?
A. You're graded at the end of every mission. If you die and choose to return to the hub area you will not be able to achieve the highest possible rank ("S"). Each time you die the highest possible grade attainable goes down a notch. Die once then the highest possible rank will be "A". Die twice and the highest possible rank will be "B". (You get the idea, right?) It's never a good idea to let this happen as it also means your rewards for completing the mission will not be as great as they could have been.
Q. Can I customize my character?
A. Yes, aside from the exclusion of real-time face modifications, characters can be customized in exactly the same way they can be customized in Phantasy Star Universe. Check the videos section for proof!
Q. Can I set the height and weight of my character?
A. Of course. You accentuate a couple things actually.
Q. Can I change my character class if I'm unhappy with it?
A. Yes, PSP2 employs Types just like it's predecessor (and Phantasy Star Universe). You'll have to pony up some Meseta, but you definitely can change your "class".
Q. Is there a level cap?
A. Yes, the level cap is Level 200. Furthermore, Types cap at Level 30 and Photon Arts cap at different levels based on your Type (30 max).
Q. How does cooperative play work?
A. Players can play together in maximum party of 4 online via ad-hoc play (Multiplayer Mode) or online through the PlayStation Network (Online Multiplayer Mode). From there you can create your own party or jump into a party that's already been created.
Q. Is online play restricted to specific regions?
A. Online play will be completely region free. If you're using a JP version and I'm using my US copy, we can play together fully without restriction.
Q. Is co-operative play available for the Story Mode?
A. No, co-op play is limited to the Multiplayer and Online Multiplayer modes.
