Phil considered releasing craig in pieces, but ultimately decided to delay it entirely

It sucks for the launch of their console but releasing Halo piece by piece would backfire and also strong gamepass announcement coming what could it be 3rd party AAA game lauching day 1 on it?

The problem is they will get a reputation for putting unfinished games on game pass and then charging you $10-15 per month while they spend years finishing it, like Sea of Thieves.

This picture is the perfect representation of Phil. Over-promises year after year and Xbox fanboys just keep saying he hasn't been in charge long enough yet to really judge his performance. Maybe after 20 years we can finally judge how he's doing.
I thought Most people Love Phil for being super transparent.

So, Halo Infinite as a Life is Strange-style game released in chapters? That would have been... interesting.

The right choice was made, though. Halo is about getting immersed in an epic adventure, and you can't do that if you're getting pulled out every now and then to wait for months.

Based on this, I kind of wonder if more is off or wrong behind the scenes than just the visuals, as well.

If all you care about is BC and a cheap service then he's amazing. If you care about strong exclusives he sucks.

X1 exclusive support has been dog shit and all people have been saying is this generation is a wrap, but they are in an amazing spot for next gen! Come next gen their only big launch exclusive is gone, no back up plan at all seemingly, and the only two titles that look interesting, Fable and Avowed, aren't even close to being done. So much for being in a great spot even after throwing this gen away. Sony came out with TLOU2 and GOT this year on PS4 and STILL have a stronger launch on next gen? How is that even possible? This guy sucks.

It'd be intriguing if releasing the F2P multiplayer at Series X launch was ever considered too.

I'm honestly not sure that'd be a bad idea. A little disappointing in that we'd probably learn all the new weaponry and abilities long before the campaign comes out (maybe restrict some of it?), and that the hype of an exciting new Halo release with both a brand new campaign and multiplayer would be reduced a bit, but it'd be a really fun, sensible way to have a piece of Halo from Day 1, for dejected fans right now.

Sea of Thieves had a monthly cost? You couldn't just buy it outright and still get updates?
Of course you could, just as you could have theoretically bought Halo Infinite Chapter 1 under this proposed strategy and waited for a year or two while they finished it, just like the people who just got it through game pass would be doing.

But they are pushing game pass and advertising it as the way to get their first party games for a "low" subscription cost and we've already seen State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves come out unfinished on the service and take years to actually wrap up production. So, the image becomes that people who get their first party games through game pass pay a subscription to maintain access to what essentially turns out to be beta tests. It's not an image you want to build while you're pushing the "value of game pass" for a new generation.

If you start out on Day 1 telling everyone that your biggest series, Halo, is an unfinished product just like others in their history, the perception will become that you're charging a subscription for beta testing very unfinished games. And that's way less "valuable" to people.

The fact that was even considered is sad af. Asking for a complete game on day 1 is too much to ask for Phil?

Although not the norm flagship titles do, at times, ship with just the single player campaign initially followed by the multiplayer portion, sometimes many months later. I'm sure there was a first party flagship title released these past 6 months that is doing pricesley that.

Regardless - in the case of 343 the rot is too set in - MS needs to dole out the ip to other devs for new perpectives.

The closer we get to release the more I'm convinced MS was never ready for this.
I don't even think they had a plan with the Series X.
Just copy what Sony announces and make sure its powerful seem to have been their answer.
I may well be wrong, but that's the impression they're giving.

The negativity here .. Covid did a real number on you guys ! Come on life a little! It's just video games !
Enjoy the quarantine and go sit outside zipping a coke enjoying the sun ☀️!

Stop teasing stuff.

Godammit learn from this Phill, exit the Microsoft bubble it's already bad enough what Panais is doing with the Surface Duo this week

I don't think its just microsoft, sony will face the same problems. games already take ages to make. If you want to be prepared with lots of games, u probably should right now start development for PS6 games. for example with current dev cycles. And nobody is going to do that.

Phil, if you're reading this thread, just know these are man-children playing made up console wars in their sad heads. Keep up the good work! Now announce some studio acquisitions so we can see their salty tears and concern posts/threads. Thanks!

I remember the median age when someone made a thread on how old the average Gaf user was mid 30s. Hahahaha, amazing.

It seems PS5 'big launch exclusive' is a 'modded' Spiderman game... 🤷‍♀️

Geesh so much negativity when Phil is just opening up to where they are now.

"Strong tease" lol kinda sums up the problem. There's nothing wrong with just saying "We'll announce more soon" and keep it at that. They keep building the hype and then disappointing people.

That would've been a great idea to launch the F2P part with the Series X. Yeah, it probably would have been criticized for piece mealin the game, but great gameplay would've drown out all the negative Nancy's. The multiplayer should have at least been ready.

Shots fired

"We built a form followed function design for our console so that we could draw a lot of air with a big fan spinning a little bit slower, so we didn't get those high-pitched, whining sounds that a console can normally make". Spencer continued.

All in line for further strong teases

I wonder what he is playing on his Series X.
The same games anyone will be playing on their PS5, since they're both launching with 90% the same lacklustre games?

I wish they would release the MP separately. Do not give a shit about the campaign, and want an ever updating multiplayer platform for the whole generation.

Definitely release a beta for the multiplayer like they did with 5.

I really enjoyed that and it made me buy halo 5 although I preferred the beta to the full version lol
