Physical Releases - News & Discussion Corner |OT| Physical Games Are Dead, Long Live Physical Games

I bought an Xbox 360 "E" this week; complete in box and with some games - all for like 130€. Thanks Mattyp Mattyp for pointing out the "E" it is ;)
Unfortunately, a few of the game cases are damaged, and the joysticks had apparently been chewed up by a dog.
Replacement cases and new Joysticks are already on the way.
I'm honestly amazed at how efficiently this version runs - the Xbox 360 "E" comes with a 120W PSU and during a short play session of Gears of War 3, the console used about 100W, and together with my projector in the bedroom, the total power draw was < 200W.

What game recommendations do you have that no physical collection should be without?

Extending my question from nioh thread.
I want to buy the collection but the cheapest one I can find got yellow dot on the bottom left of the cover. Next to pegi rating. In the back there is English, Arabic and few other languages.

What is the fucking dot.

Does it mean I am buying uae censored version with English language ?!

Is there website to input game cusa and check if it's censored?

Usually pack-in, promotional copies or part of a bundle

IIRC there's removal of dismemberment in some of the localized versions (JP and possibly the Asian version too). Not sure if this SKU you're talking about here that's meant for MENA region is affected by this as well.

Better to ask this question on the nioh subreddit IMO, or just pay a little more for the European PEGI version to remove any doubt.

Got these two to play next!

I ended up buying Talos Principle 2 digital also because I feel too bad to open my Deluxe Edition. I did the same with Slitherhead. I hope Talos Principle 1 - Reawakened get a physical release as well. I have the physical release of the PS4 version. I have a huge soft spot for these kinds of puzzle games

Another crabs treasure finally been rescued from been a digital only release.

At this point devs really should start mentioning Switch 2 enhancements and benefits of newly released Switched 1 games. They would greatly increase their value and perception. Similar to how PlayStation will say something like "PS5 Pro enhanced" or how Xbox Series would say "Smart Delivery".

Just received these two physicals in the mail. I also have the GRIS deluxe on pre-order and than one should hopefully arrive early next week (it shipped today, but from a different country since I found it €10 cheaper).

Edit: It looks like they shipped my GRIS deluxe pre-order with priority so it could arrive before Easter, so I received the parcel just minutes ago, lol. I'm very happy with that.

Just found out that the stupidly fun-looking physics-based game "Deliver at All Costs" is getting a physical release - and it'll only cost around €30!

It will release for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 22, 2025.

Just another example today and last week.

Psn rise of ronin - 90usd. I just paid 42usd for new, unopened disc version. And not some weird uae version. Normal polish retail copy. That's more than HALF !!!

Just 15 minutes ago got nioh collection for ps5. Same, brand new, unopened disc version. 32usd… normal polish retail release. And it's also 90$ on psn right now.

So yeah, fuck digital and fuck psn

Damn, it arrived 2 days early! Enjoy!

Still a bit bummed out with how they handled distribution for the limited edition. :lollipop_pensive: Like look at this:
  • The Americas
Maximum Entertainment is distributing the physical versions of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The Collectors Edition (Sold Out) and the Lumière Edition are exclusively distributed in the United States by GameStop.
  • Europe
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe is distributing the physical versions of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The Lumière edition is distributed in Italy, Spain and Portugal only.
  • In Europe, the Collectors Editions (Sold Out) is exclusively distributed by Laced Records.
  • Asia
In Japan, SEGA is distributing the physical version of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Only the standard edition is available.

I didn't even know there was a collectors edition 🤣 its a great game but it seems without day one parch no ps5 pro support. UE5 hits again image quality was a mess without the patch with patch its ok. I think it uses pssr because before the patch Gustav mustache was a horrible taa mess after the patch it was ok. But still Image quality leaves a lot to be desired. Otherwise awesome game love it. Accidentally played on expert and was wondering why it is so damn difficult 😅

So, after putting in way more hours than I care to admit over the past two weeks into Star Rail and really enjoying it, I decided to grab the physical version.

It comes with an actual physical disc, not just a code in a box, along with a bunch of goodies (both digital and physical). Of course, since it's a gacha game and online only, with new updates every 6 weeks or so, the build on the disc is already outdated.

Even so, I wanted to have the physical version in my collection since I thought it was cool of mihoyo to make one.

I don't get jealous easily, but I saw this on Reddit and :pie_drooling:

God dayum! I wonder how many imports and limited releases (LRG, SRG, etc.) he has in that 2,400 Switch collection, and I also hope he has good homeowners insurance, lol.

I think the biggest Switch collector we have here on GAF is Squarehard, with over 1,500 Switch games in his collection.

Also, somewhat offtopic, but with all this game key cart stuff with 3rd party pubs on Switch 2, I might actually continue collecting for the Switch 1. Mainly VNs (I think new ones will continue being released in Japan and Asia for quite a long while) and some indie games.

Just got Amerzone remake for 25 bucks, along with Syberia The World Before that I got a few months ago.

PSA for anyone in the US ordering from PlayAsia:

As many of our US customers are aware on May 2, 2025 the United States will apply changes to the import of Chinese-manufactured goods. The two most notable changes relevant to consumer importing are:
  1. De minimis removed for Chinese-manufactured products. This means orders containing Chinese-manufactured products valued under $800 will be subject to fees.
  2. New tariffs will be applied to Chinese-manufactured products. This means an additional percentage fee will be applied upon delivery of orders containing Chinese-manufactured goods after May 2nd.
Below we will clarify the situation regarding importing after May 2, 2025 as most products on sale at Playasia are not of Chinese-manufacturing origin.

The most important piece of information for game collectors to know is that video games are not manufactured in China. Video games are currently primarily manufactured in Japan, with few exceptions being manufactured in Southeast Asia. It is important to note that shipping a package from Hong Kong (Playasia's primary warehouse location) does not make the contents of the package Chinese-manufactured origin.

Put simply, this means Playasia does not expect the upcoming tariff changes to apply to your game-related orders as those orders will not include Chinese-manufactured goods. Many other categories are very similar to video games in that the products are primarily produced outside of China, such as: game soundtracks, books, and movies. In the coming weeks Playasia will make it easier to browse products on our website by adding a Country of Origin field to our product pages. This information will be added to products as it is verified by our team. Our goal is to makes it as simple as possible for customers to double check and be confident in their purchases.

Please be aware that when purchasing Chinese-manufactured products you, as the US customer, will be responsible for the related fees upon arrival.

Ongoing negotiations between the US and China indicate that further developments are likely to occur. In such a case we will be diligent to keep our customers and policies updated.

So as shitty as limited run games is, I always thought...the one positive for that site would be at least they'll sell you physical games.

Even the collector's edition of Raidou that they're selling for Switch 2 is just a "Game Key Card".

"Forever physical" my ass.

Bend/Sony will get some money from me but I doubt it will help poor guys working in that studio...

Been busy reworking some of my nerd cave, needed more shelving space for all the Switch games I had because they were just starting to pile up. Finally got a new shelf that all of them can fit on, with some room to grow for a little while at least.

Currently at about 360 Switch games. Don't keep as close track of the other systems, but I probably got about 30 or so PS5 games.

Any info on what this is?
Hopefully something positive for us physical media enjoyers. A LRG equivalent, but better and located here in Europe would be a good start (they're a UK based publisher).

Edit: I noticed that Ryan has a 1000xRESIST banner on his Twitter profile, so maybe one of their first physical releases would be related to that one.

This is my quarterly bitching post in this thread about Chained Echoes, which I bought physically in 2022, that still hasn't been delivered.

They had a blog post on their website in December saying "the cartridges are here", but still radio silence. Fuck First Press Games, right in the ass.

I find it wild how there's so many physical releases for insignificant indie titles, coming from publishers that are so small they're almost operating like a cottage industry, and yet the trillion dollar Microsoft are unwilling to put out a physical copy of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5...

First press are the absolute worst they are borderline scam company now even LRG have gotten me all my games on time a million times faster than these hacks. Still waiting on my 2021 order for crimson clover i don't think i'll ever see it now lol fuck the switch isn't far from been replaced & it's still not done. What's wild is they keep advertising like new games to preorder & i'm thinking what dumb fuck would ever preorder a new release from them when it's clear thay are using the money from new preorders to pay for stuff people ordered years ago.

Ace Combat 6

Bayonetta
Blue Dragon
Condemned Criminal Origins
Fable Anniversary
Forza 3&4
Forza Horizon
Gears of War Judgment
Halo games
Lost Odyssey
PGR 3&4
Splinter Cell Conviction
Witcher 2

Excellent list. Late to the party, but I also recommend Beautiful Katamari, The Darkness, and The Darkness 2. Kupfer Kupfer

😂 All they would have to do is offer actual FULL Switch 2 games on card and they would become overnight millionaires (provided they could actually pull it off)

I've had an order with them since 2021. Tried to get a refund many times and always been fobbed off witha generic "Check the release schedule. Thank you for your patience and understanding" email.

The release progress page is worthless, they just keep pushing all of the dates back once they've come and gone.

They're scammers. They're broke and can't afford to produce what they've sold so they'll intermittently open a new pre-order trying to get some more money in.

Best consider your money gone and never order from them again.

Would be so nice

Sucks to hear man, and here I'm waiting for my Jusant First Edition and Ballast Edition which should have been released in October.
But nothing compared to 2022 ...

And even IF they release a physical version of one of their games, it's worthless -> Indiana Jones.

Nice additions, I will work on that list !

Lesson learned, the hard way, unfortunately. I suppose at the very least they handed out Steam keys for the game last year to people like me who had been waiting over 2 years at that point, but I suspect that was done more at the request of Deck13 or Matthias Linda because they were being hounded on Twitter about the physical release taking so long - but that was a $70 steam key at this point.

I suppose the consolation is that if the physical release of the game ever does actually get produced and delivered to me, it will probably be one of the most rare Switch releases in existence.

I'm so far behind on this series, but decided to pick these up for my eventual Switch 2 playthroughs. They were also about 10% off on Amazon, which isn't bad as the games can be hard to find physical copies of sometimes.

For anyone that wants a proper physical release of Doom the dark ages, forget it. Both the ps5 and xbox version only contain 85MB of data on the disc, you have to download the full game. The full game is 85GB, would easily fit a ps5 disc.

I wont be buying any Microsoft published game anymore because of these practices.

I'm afraid Sony will also follow this trend soon, they just want to kill physical with a painful death. I hate this world.
