Physical Version of Shenmue 3 PS4 Now on the Kickstarter

I always back digital copies of kickstarter games, but may get the physical for this one. Quick question though, if I get the physical edition, will I have to pay import duties when it reaches me in the UK or will they distribute it from the EU (if it hasn't broken up before 2017...)?
That wouldn't be known. I never paid imports on KS stuff so you should be safe. They will plan their logistics accordingly.

The physical copy comes with an exclusive case that will not be found in retail. If interested, I suggest you pledge for your copy!

So just wondering, how does all this work for non-US backers? What if there's any DLC? Will it be available on the Aussie Psn?
As I assume this physical copy will act like a USA copy?

I originally pledged 30 for the digital version. Can I easily change it to 60 for the physical PS4 version? Never funded a KS so don't know!

There's still almost 26,000 digital copy backers, I hope a few more of them convert to a physical copy so we can start closing in on the next stretch goal.

Also reminder Yu Suzuki will be doing a Q&A on Twitter later tonight.

So for anyone sitting on the edge, think of it this way. You can get a digital copy for $29, a copy at day 1 will cost $50/60. You can also get a physical copy at $60. Which is what a physical copy will cost day 1 if it exists which isn't guaranteed. You get a nice bonus case for your money too that's bound to be more collectable than a version of the game you get day 1. Also, you get the satisfaction of having helped make Shenmue III the best it can be. Isn't that fucking cool? The caveat is that if it is less than good you can't back down when impressions are out. But honestly I doubt you'd regret it.

Chances are they will ask you which region you want afterwards.

Looks like this is just the shot in the arm this kickstarter needed. Hope word spreads to more PS4 users and we get closer to some of these good stretch goals.

At the moment the only things that'll get me to up my pledge from the $30 digital PC copy to the $60 tiers or higher is if they announce that they are adding physical Wii U or Xbox One versions as an option for backers or they announce better reward tiers like say an $80 tier that packages the digital or physical PC version with the digital soundtrack, digital art book, and all the backer exclusive in game content. Both of which I don't see happening given the confusion and misinformation surrounding the viability of the game coming to other systems as well as the (imo) shoddy way the game's Kickstarter was setup and is currently being run.

I'm happy the game is happening, but there's certainly something strange about a major publisher being aligned with a kickstarter.

to actually answer you though, and not just throw sarcastic, although relevant, memes at ya...Yu Suzuki wanted more money to make the game as best as possible. He discussed it with Sony, and they are giving him some money and marketing - in return they get Console exclusivity

there is no major publisher aligned with this.

this is ys.net's project and they're receiving the same support any other indie game coming to ps4 gets. only difference is that they were allowed to launch the KS on sony's stage as a favour to yu suzuki.

Given Sony are providing marketing support, if you've bothered paying attention you know what you're requesting is a pipedream.

The good news is according to Kicktraq, this has been the most successful day beyond the first 24 hours. So they are doing something right as people are responding in droves. Now passed the 4.1 million threshold with next stretch goal within reach.

Never played the series before. But the hype around having this exist and a physical copy for ps4 might get me to bite before the campaign is over.

Switch to physical PS4 version from physical PC version.

Juraash, go play Yakuza...or just get a Dreamcast on the cheap and play the first game / Xbox on the cheap and play the second game to see if you like the style.

Is the PS4 physical copy limited to the kickstarter or will it be available to purchase (without the backer case obviously) when the game is released?

Buy a Kickstarter Edition for $60 now, sell it as brand new on Ebay in 14 years for $500. No joke.

If you're looking to simply make money, there are much faster and easier ways to get a better return on a $60 investment than $440 over the course of 14 years.

I hope they're looking at those donations taking off right now and thinking to themselves "Damn, why didn't we do this from the very beginning?!"

Sorry if it's been covered: Is there a tier where I can get both a physical PS4 copy and a digital copy? Or do I need to create a second Kickstarter account and back twice..

Game needs 10mil in funding for me to care about wanting to play it and that's never going to happen. What kind of person can afford to pay 10k for a game jacket and dinner and that other stuff you get? That's insane to me.

Also, if I paid $10k for the original jacket and then they released the replicas (which will essentially be the exact same thing) I would be piiiiised! Still there won't be many but more than 1 is worse than 1.

I don't even think they're going that far, or that there's exclusivity(?). The game is being developed for PC, and Sony are giving it indie assistance, helping with the port/marketing for PS4. There's kickstarter and some other individual backers for development.

It seems very unlikely that they're only making a couple thousand of physical PS4 discs just for the backers. But they get a special box/cover.

So far you need a second KS account. Perhaps the team will create an add-on/extra for a second game copy if enough people ask for it.

You do realise people can change their pledges at any time, right? Nobody pays for anything until it ends. So if someone was pissed they pledged $10,000 for the original, they could easily change their pledge to the $3,000 replica. Problem solved.

$10 million just for you to be interested in playing it?

Er, okay.

Speaking of not paying attention you seemed to have missed the part where I said

So yeah, also last I had heard (this was a few weeks back mind you) this is a Y's.net owned project and that Sony providing marketing & porting support would have no bearing what so ever on which platforms the game would appear on (this bit goes back to the confusion & misinformation part I was referencing in my original post) which means there is a chance (albeit a small one) that it could happen, but again I seriously doubt it (or my requested $80 tier where you have the choice of a physical or digital version of the PC game along with the digital soundtrack, digital art book, and all in game back exclusive content) will happen which is why I am currently content with sitting at/sticking to the $30 tier

It's pretty sad that someone over at Kotaku felt the need to use the placeholder image for this as a reason to try and smear the Kickstarter campaign.

I've never backed anything on KS before but I may back this, I just really wish there was some easier way to play 1 & 2 before 3 comes out, since I never did get the chance to experience those.
Because that's how it should be. Digital and physical costing the same is completely bonkers and just a modern way to get more money out of your consumer's pockets.
Sure, there should be some price difference. $10 or so between digital and physical games is understandable. $30 difference is a bit rich though. I don't really mind since $60 for a game is a steal by Australian standards.
