Physical Version of Shenmue 3 PS4 Now on the Kickstarter

Well... I just wished that it was handled better from the beginning. I feel a little sick about how it was.
The fact that you're posting in this thread like this suggests that sometime before the end of the campaign the wave of positivity will overtake you and you'll be back onboard.

It'll be hard to resist the urge...

munchie64 keeping the house clean during GAF's darkest hour.

Upped my pledge. By the way, despite not being mentioned in the pledge descriptions, the physical PS4 version is available in all pledges that include the physical PC version.
Backers who have pledged for a PC Physical Copy will not need to adjust their rewards if they would prefer a PS4 Physical Copy instead.
Does that mean those who have pledged the $60 tier gets double the copies?

Great to see the way in which physical rewards have the campaign fast-tracking towards 50,000 backers.

Getting less and less "niche" all the time, aren't we?

Very cool.

So happy it's breathing new life into the campaign and doing away with it's doldrums.

After all that childish, petty and ugly backlash, this campaign deserves to come out on top and then some.

After? The backlash is still going, sadly.

Seems to have largely faded to me, at least with fans. Look at the comments on the trolling Kotaku article earlier today. They are resoundingly positive about the game, and condemnational of the poor journalism at work in the story.

I'm poor now... I really hope I come into money during the next weeks :(

Upped my pledge to $60 accordingly. Was a bit disappointed they didn't have this tier from the start as I'm not interested in the PC version.

My problem with this is how accessible will the game be for players who haven't played previous Shenmue titles?

There will be "cinema shorts" of Shenmue 1 & 2 included with the game so you'll be up to speed storywise, but with the actual gameplay we don't know. I expect they'll make a more modern version though, so the actual system will be more accessible for newer players.

What would call a game with 50,000 supporters?

This game is still squarely in the "nichr" camp.
50,000 people pre ordering a game 2-3 years before it comes out with no gameplay reveal or trailer showing what they hope to achieve in the final game or actual marketing other than being name dropped at the year's nerdiest press event.

Basically, 50k people paying years in advance for the name alone. It's impossible to interpret this. As in, you can't say it's super niche based off these numbers because they are no indication of actual market interest.

The fact that all the expensive tiers sells so well does speak volumes about the fanbase's um... passion? :p a 10k jacket is an incredible thing.

But yeah, whether this stays at 50k or triples that will still not be meaningful information for deducing the game's ultimate success. It may well break the charts or never make a million sales. What's important is its being made :)

Apologies if this has been asked before but will the physical PS4 version also be available at retail stores or is it only possible to get it by backing this?

As of right now, availability is only guaranteed through Kickstarter. If it does get a retail release it will be different than the KS edition which comes with exclusive packaging.

I was waiting for a physical PS4 copy, was gonna just drop $29 if it never came... now tho, I'm actually considering not contributing at all. I do not like how this kickstarter has been handled, the whole "We hit our goal in record time! But oh, we need another $8 million or the game is going to be a lot more shit." really rubbed me the wrong way. But this has been discussed to death I'm sure... I'm just really conflicted. I've never even played Shenmue despite really wanting to for years (haven't got a dreamcast, emulation of the game is a bit shit) and with how this funding is going we don't even know how well the final product is going to be.

I guess right now my plan is I'm going to watch it closely. If it looks like it is going to hit (or get very close) to the $10 million mark then I'll jump in at the last moment. Otherwise I won't, because I'm not going to pay for something that I'm essentially being told is not going to be the best it could've been because they're several million bucks short.

Launching at $2 million to ensure the kickstarter would get funded was a mistake, I get the fear that if they launched at $10 million it might not get funded and they'd get no money at all from backers, but launching that low was a silly move.

Well, 50k people who are ready to pay ~84$ for the promise of a game..
More than $85 now. And most Kickstarter games sell orders of magnitude more copies in stores than on KS. If this takes off and with the PS4 install base in 2017 I can see them pulling in a couple of million sales.

Surely that's the case with every single game ever made.

That $10 million figure is for stretch goals, for a base game, the $2 mill was what they needed. This is no different from any other kickstarter.

The 2017 release date gives us several years to pressure Sega into an HD re-release, which will allow a new generation to discover this series for the first time.

I think it is INEVITABLE that the original games will be available in HD by the time backers are receiving their copies of Shenmue III.

i am at least 99% certain that sega are putting together a spreadsheet right now to cost up shenmue and shenmue II ported to modern platforms. they're not ignorant and they can smell money like any other business.

I'll take some of that.

And that.

can't wait to see new art for Shen III. always loved the art of the original games.

yes, i'm waiting for that. really want to dig in with modern controls on a console.

All SEGA needs is to look at those Valkyria Chronicles sales on Steam.

The new reward tiers have already brought in over $300k. Basically an unprecendented jump for a Kickstarter mid-campaign. It continues to break records.

Why is this Kivkstarter still going? They should have shut it down the moment Sony took over...
