This was the Pico 5 planned lineup with 3 models

I'm guessing they're all gone.

Well if you were wondering if Apple VR would have an impact, there you go. They'll obviously be the bigger fish long term than Meta as they are way more integrated in so many layers of media. Price of vision is currently ridiculous but that's a question of time. The day it costs an iPhone..

Apple has an army of lobotomized users, so I wouldn't be surprised if despite the price Vision Pro is a success and even surpasses Meta Quest.

Naw, even if they wanted to, there's not enough supplies of micro-OLED displays.

And considering the competing products from the likes of Varjo were like $8K, now new model XR-4 with the low price (/s) of $4k, they're all limited by the limits and costs of high end components, especially the display which not too long ago was stuffs for prototypes.

When even Apple could not get the big display manufacturers to give enough supply for their initial batch of headsets, things will take time.

Vision will inevitably lower prices to iPhone level.

Meta is aiming for bottom of the barrel prices, which has a market for, but that can bite them in the ass eventually.

The biggest problem is the screens and nothing in this table about it.

LCDs have poor contrast
OLEDs are too dim, especially with pancake lenses
LCDs with backlight seems only choice but it has its own problems.

iPhone has actually increased in price over the years.

micro-OLED is the only way forward, for a while at least, no known display technology beats it as of now.

They're not comparable to OLED by the way, they're not the same tech at all.

The density of micro-OLED and the peak brightness is out of this world. Even with pancake lenses that dims nits a ton, uOLED would still manage to go beyond the 1000 nits threshold which is unheard of in VR.

Bigscreen beyond had it but like the early first iterations of it, not bright enough and had to also find a balance in pricing for a small tech company that they are.

Maybe it's not the time yet for me to get a VR headset as it still can get way better in the short-term.

Oh I forgot about this. Makes me still want that Bigscreen headset. It's just too expensive now, but it's the best of both worlds.

End 2024 and into 2025 I think we'll see some very interesting competition with micro-OLED.

Like Pico, to me its a good thing they're chasing after Apple, it can only drop prices of high end headsets. Things are heating up. The more companies use micro-OLED to chase after high end market the more it'll be in mass production the more prices drop.
