Different language families.

The thing is, other than English, the other languages in that comparison are Romance languages, whereas German is a Germanic language (as is English). Someone should maybe add Dutch, Danish, and the Nordic languages to the comparison, as they're more similar to German. Looking at this list reveals how much of the English vocabulary is Romance.
