Pikmin 3: Apocalypse Now

I've taken more pictures. A lot of pictures. Too many pictures. I think I need to apologise to any friends/followers I have on Miiverse for spamming their Activity Feed.

I think I'm addicted to taking pictures is this game...

FFFFFFFFFF

Yesterday,I started the game, but I had to turn it off pretty early. I guess it was so early that I hadn't even gotten to the first save point (Which is fine, I was only about 15 minutes in), and now I have to watch the whole shitty opening again.

I hate Nintendo games. Why the heck is it unskippable? I didn't even enjoy it the first time through.

EDIT: Turns out I was about ten seconds away from the save point when I turned it off. Funny, that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't you skip every single cutscene in the game, and most tutorials?
And as for the unskippable tutorials, you can breeze through them in about 10 seconds if you know what you're doing.

nah, i lost a bunch fighting the first boss so i was wondering if there was some technique i wasn't using or if i was going to have to learn to live with this profound sadness after every boss battle

Well, no offense but the technique you weren't using was tactics :D

Be smart about how you attack if you don't wanna lose Pikmin. You'll get the dodge roll later on.

It's easy to avoid damage vs the first boss if you're cautious. He'll do a little rear before any charge, and he only charges on a straight line. If you stay a safe distance from from his head, and don't try to change directions to evade, it's not hard to keep out of his way. Just remember that you're leading a group, likely a group of slow leaf Pikmin that early on, and focus on guiding their position more than your leader's position.

The dodge role (I read DOGE role every time, fuckin Internet) is a nice-to-have, but honestly I barely used it during my run. Just gotta get used to the speed of your Pikmin group, and how it tracks your leader's movement.

Finish it today. What a lovely game (pikmins genocide aside).
The last stage is nothing short of genius. Lots of deaths. Kind of ended up being insensitive about that. I feel bad.

I feel compelled to do a second playthrough just to take pictures, a lot of pictures.

A must for every WiiU owner.

Hey guys, I'm having trouble with my motion plus aiming in this. For a while, it'll work perfectly (much better than normal IR aiming), but sometimes the targeting will get way out. How do I reset the aiming? Also, sometimes it'll automatically switch over to IR aiming, but I don't want it to and can't seem to get it to switch back to Motion Plus.

Any help would be appreciated, as it's quite frustrating :-(

What?

Sorry if I didn't explain myself very well. While playing through Pikmin 3, the (motion plus) aiming will sometimes need resetting (as in, the aiming reticule will be way off screen when it shouldn't be, if you know what I mean), but I don't know how to re-calibrate the motion plus aiming.

Also, at times, the aiming will switch to standard wiimote IR aiming (the type that most Wii games used). I prefer motion plus aiming (when working properly), but don't know how to get the game to switch back to that type of aiming.

It probably still doesn't make much sense, but I don't know how to explain it differently :-P

I don't know if it work on pikmin 3 but on other motion plus game to calibrate you just need pres down on d-pad

such a cute, relaxing game but packed with smart strategic fun.

they gotta make more of this faster though. 1 pikmin game in 10 years is very wrong.

This almost sounds like your Wiimote is broken or something.

Finished this today.

The last area was incredibly tense. Too bad the camera during the final boss was so bad, messy. It really made me miss angle and zoom options from the first two games. I guess I will try to beat the monster with less Pikmin losses before moving on. Any tips?
Oddly , I am not interested in the bonus/extra modes.

Far from perfect, but a damn good game (annoyances aside, which there are plenty).
My ranking would be: Pikmin 1 = Pikmin 3 >>>> Pikmin 2.

Edit:
Tried the GamePad controls for the first time... They feel so bad compared to Wiimote+nunchuck (I can't even defeat a Bulborb). What do you guys think? What control option did you use?

Skipping this day will make the dead boss appear in his area again. I think you need to try another day or throw another 20 Pikmins after you released the 30 ones on the photo.

I just restarted the day, and took the other way (the wall that needs to be bombed). Stupid boss got stuck.

I'm surprised they used the right stick for camera control...being able to lock on helps aiming somewhat but it's still so cumbersome. Remote+nunchuk with gamepad on lap is king :D

I think this info is in the OP. Black Ops 2 also let you play this way. Like Kai said, there's a sensor bar around the camera.

WAIT! STOP THE PRESS!
I can play this on the pad like it's Pikmin 2 NPC with using the wiimote and the pad and not even use the tv screen?

Finally started playing this today. OMG it is soooo good. The visuals are downright gorgeous and everything just feels so polished. Playing with the Wii remote and nunchuck is heavenly!

Only about two hours in and I already love this more than Pikmin 1 and 2...and I LOVED those games.

My first time ever playing a pikmin game. I played gamepad all the way through (and was quite frusturated with that control scheme). Think I am going to go Wii remote this time around, I hope I can still use the gamepad for quick travel, that was my favorite part of the game.

Oh, and the hours are off by 3 or 4, had to idle when I was working.

You can use the gamepad functions at any time along with the Wii remote, it's just a case of figuring out a convenient place to put the gamepad.

Well now I really want to get this!
I need to finish P2 NPC! (halfway through the debt!)

Welp Pikmin 3 is in the mail getting to a shop near me so that I can pick it up in a few days...(fnac had it at 39bucks + some other offer and I can pick it up after work so I don't have to check the mail anyway)
I won't thank you just yet GAF because I really didn't want to pick it up till I finished Pikmin2.
I have till Wednesday (so really only today and tomorrow) to finish Pikmin 2....and we're playing Rayman right now so no time for P2 ;_;

Help!!

I just turned on my Wii U for the first time in months. I have had Pikmin 3 in the shrink wrap. I put in the disc and it had to do an update. When the game boots, it gets to a screen with a black border and a picture of 3 Pikmin in the middle. The Wii U freezes on this screen and never gets to the game. I have to do a hard reset at this point. I've gone and tried deleting the game update from my external storage and rebooting, but it won't let me boot the game without updating first, even if I turn the internet connection off.

Has anybody had this problem?
