This will be my fourth kickstarted game:

1) Shadowrun Returns

2) Wasteland 2

3) Dead State: The Zombie Survival RPG

4) Project Eternity

Four RPGs that in a better world would have publishers throwing money at them like there was no tomorrow.

1.1 million is easy potatoes.
The Planetary Annihilation kickstarter managed to get every single stretch goal (2.1 millions), and I'm expecting Project Eternity to do the same.

PC gamers like their games loaded with goodies.

ok, so far the only thing we know is that magic is connected to people's souls and that's enough for me to get excited about the project because it's a)an idea which can be exectuted through game mechanics and that is the way for the medium to go b)I believe that Obsidian will execute it right and it won't be just another mana pool.

also I expect more details (screens, art, game mechanics) to follow.

Pledged 20 bucks, can't afford much more right now. The goal isn't that high, I'm confident they will make it. The people involved should convince a lot of people.

In for $20 but I'll probably go for the boxed copy once I get paid for the month.

as someone unfamiliar with Kickstarters... are they really thinking this is going to be done by April 2014? That's far :(

I do wish companies like Obsidian would just completley ditch the high end "blockbuster" shit (since they clearly don't have the money, the personnel, or the audience to pull it off) and make more stuff like this. I can only imagine how great something like KoTOR 2 would have been if it was made on a minuscule budget like this and didn't have publisher interference.

it's not THAT high a goal though, they'll probably not only reach it but go above it.

I'll toss them a $20 for now. As a huge fan of their games I feel like I should give more, but my unfortunate need for instant gratification makes it hard for me to give generously towards something that I won't see the results of for possibly two years. But who knows, I might be feeling more giving towards the end of the deadline.

Since my boss helped inspired the project we got the first interview on it at GameBanshee, with Feargus Urquhart. Enjoy!

Buck: Let's talk mechanics. While the game is certainly far from completion, what are your goals for the character creation and advancement system? Will progression be a standard affair with attributes and skills/perks/feats, or will you be treading into unknown territory? Finally, will there be a major focus on the non-combat abilities that are often overlooked in modern RPGs?

Feargus: Yes, yes and yes – we are still rolling up the system, but our goals are very much along the lines of creating a robust and multi-faceted RPG system. That means having a huge focus on support abilities and not just combat ones. Josh has been whiteboarding up a system for a number of months now for the support ability system and it’s looking very, very cool.

Buck: As you're going with a fantasy world, one would assume that there will be a magic system of some kind. What are your goals for the game's magic system, and will the spells that we gain access to be reminiscient of the D&D-based arsenal we had in the IE games?

Feargus: We will be talking about the magic system more in the coming week and months, but we are tying magic and overall potential of all characters to the power of a character’s soul. Player characters and companions are among the people in the world with great potential, those with "unbroken" or "strong" souls. As for the spell types, we’ll definitely see spells that give that us that D&D feeling. But, we want to use the connection between power and the soul as an added factor into every part of the character development system – including magic.

EDIT: Dammit, hadn't noticed it had been posted about already :(

Ambitious goal, but I'm glad to see that the numbers jumped 20k in the time that it took for me to pledge. Wasteland 2, Shadowrun and now this? Man I love kickstarter.

I'm glad this project exists, and I did contribute some money, but I'm actually beginning to hit my limit with Kickstarters since I've yet to actually have one of the things I've backed come out. I feel like this is probably my last one.

I don't think I saw any Alpha Protocol stuff at the opening reel but then I saw it on a t-shirt, that made me happy.

Here's the thing: I loved, LOVED Torment and other infinity engine games. Obsidian also has a good track record. But there's no details about the game on offer. No characters, no RPG system, nothing. Just a generic fantasy map. It doesn't exactly stoke the fires of my imagination.

I backed DoubleFine because I wanted to see them take a crack at a nearly-dead genre: the adventure game. At this point, however, if you come to Kickstarter asking for my backing, I want a little more. At least great concept art or a plot or SOMETHING. What is this game that I'm backing?
