So I'm guessing you've never utilized a mousetrap? Or killed a bug... I mean, seriously. It's not like he sat there and killed the mouse for no apparent reason. It wasn't even "gruesome" what was so gruesome...? I clicked the link expecting to be shocked and motified, instead I was like "is that it?".


What do you think animals do out in the wild? Have tea parties? And gossip about Jlo's latest wedding?

LOL. What do cats eat in the wild? What difference does it make? HERE we go AGAIN with comparing a human being with an animal. It never fails. How am I demented by not having a problem with watching nature take its course? That makes me demented? Don't you think you're overexaggerating just a tad? I happen to think I'm a very human and dignified human being, yet I'm labeled as demented? LOL.

There are psychos out there who share your view. You think a normal person wouldn't be a bit repulsed at what they are seeing? This isn't nature, the mouse didn't just jump into the tank.

Believe me, I'm the furtherest thing from a psycho. In fact I consider people that put animals on a pedestal higher than human beings to be more touched in the head if anything. How someone can personally attack my character based on my views about that video is what's psycho, don't ya think?

It makes me an asshole because I don't get emotional over seeing a mouse get eaten by another animal? You guys must all be vegans. I'm sure you reasearch every product before you make a purchase to make sure it hasn't been tested on animals beforehand as well.

Look, I and others in this thread are not stupid and we know of the food chain, but you don't have to be an expert in ecology to know these mice are not found in the same environments that these pirahnas are found in... Do I cringe when a cat eats a mouse? No. Do I cringe when humans trap an animal so that another WILD animal can consume it? Yes. Do I cringe when I see people finding this amusing? Yes.

If you put it that way, NO animal should be in the house. It's "inhumane" to have a pet, it should be out roaming free, ennjoying it's life. Not there to entertain you, or whoever else deems it as a "pet". See how ridiculous that sounds? Two can play this game.
 
You can domesticate a cat or a dog. You can't domesticate a piranha. Cats and dogs don't need flesh to survive... I'm not arguing about freedom here.
 
Let's get this straight, the rat wasn't dead beforehand. It had some helped from a nice guy into a tank full of pirahna(I bet this happened a lot in nature). From people description, it was already half eaten and yet it still trying like hell to get out of the tank(we all know that no animal can escape from pirahna in nature :rolleye). This video wasn't aimed to be educational, it was pure entertainment.

Why not? Like I said, people like the owner in this video shouldn't but I know there is some very good and respectuous piranhas owners out there and you don't have to feed them live stock all the time either.

See, piranhas are kind of just large tetras with teeth and a name that is bigger than they are. Piranhas are even less aggressive than some cichlids.


Personally I find them boring and I wouldn't bother owning and taking care of one since they require so much attention for what they give you.

I rather own what I have in my avatar (bought another one today!) :)
 
For the same reasons why so many people are disgusted with this video? You know... the ethics of it all?

Btw, fish are beautiful yeah, but flesh eating fish is just... ugh

I agree, it was enertainment, and the person that recorded it may or may not have stepped over the ethical boundaries... That can be argued either way I suppose. But I can see where you're coming from. My whole rift with the whole ordeal mainly stems from people pretending that animals are on an equal playing field with humans when they are not. Groups like PETA obviously don't make me any more compasionate about the situation. Their whole philosophy is flawed beyond comprehension.

While I think the video is pretty freaking gross and cruel, i compared it to someone feeding a live mouse to a snake. live feeding is live feeding. i do agree it was excessive.

You see, I would disagree with that but I dont think this is the place nor the time to discuss it.

I'll just add this though, yes we eat animals and that's that, but you need to respect them. Without them we wouldn't be able to survive.

Tribals who used to hunt and eat animals had the most utmost respect for them because they knew that without them they couldn't survive. They'd go as far as to make sure they wouldn't waste any part of the animal and made arrow heads out of their bones etc... But that guy in the video sure didn't look like someone who had an once of respect for the living.

Anyways, I don't want to get too much into this as I'm an animal lover and it could turn out bad :p

No, I respect animals. Believe me, I would never intentionally hurt an animal, and I'm actually quite fond of them. My main thing is that they are not equal to human beings. You can have respect while still knowing the difference.

I'm sorry but it takes 2 humans for a murder to occur. Sure it's wrong to aimlessly kill an animal, and people should be punished when they abuse or needlessly kill animals. But using the term "murder" is the type of overly excessive thing I'm talking about. But the point is moot. We're never going to see eye to eye on this, so it's pointless.

And who would download it? Obviously a lot of people who can't get over mere curiousity. Nobody who downloaded the video of their own free will can bitch about the guy throwing it up, since you all knew exactly what it was about going in.

Judge yourselves for being curious enough to look at this shit before you judge the guy for filming it. JeffDowns is basically correct...when it comes to their prey, animals don't fuck around. Expecting something softer is simply being naive. To download this vid knowing what it is, then to get all upset because you saw exactly what it said it was, and then get all high and mighty about it is frankly laughable.

With all that said, there's no fucking way I'm looking at it...I could barely stomach watching "Killer Fish".
 
This is pretty sick because it's *torture*. Had the rat just died in a second like in cartoons or whatever, I wouldn't really care.

It's just the commentary detracts from the fact that this is how nature works. I have no problem watching nature shows, of packs of animals hunting others. But the commentary renders this clip as a mockery of nature.

I doubt if it was actually filmed for educational purposes, but you're right. The Joe Cartoon stuff was definately added after the fact. I don't see the big deal really. I personally own piranha (three to be exact) and it's no different then feeding a boa a mouse. Not as easy to watch happening, but just as "barbaric". More trouble then it's worth though. I feed my piranhas cichlid pellets. Goes down much easier and there's no nasty blood to fakk up my bacteria.

The novelty of feeding live runs it's course too. I've never fed my piranhas anything more then feeder fish, but that can be sick too. The p's usually leave the heads behind and it's quite disconcerting watching a floating fish head still sucking water even when it has no gills/body to speak of. The just kind of bob at the top and move with the water current.

In anycase, piranhas rule.

Yeah you are not allowed to own Piranhas in South Carolina, but it's most likely due to the fact that they could survive in this environment. Some dumb redneck (like the one in the video) would probably dump those in a pond or river somewhere for kicks.

Anyway, this video was digusting. I love violent films and violent videos on the internet, but this one disturbed me. Watching innocent animals suffer and die is not my idea of entertainment.
 
Yeah, what's happening in the video isn't disgusting or inhumane (just natural), but the video's purpose is pretty reprehensible. I don't think normal compassionate human beings could watch that without feeling pity/sadness/etc.

Myself, I didn't even watch it, after hearing the commentary in the thread. I think I would've been even more disturbed because I own a pet rat (there doesn't seem to be any agreement over whether it's a rat or a mouse), and they're wonderfully nice, intelligent creatures.
 
I guess a lifetime of violent movies and video games have desynsitized me, as I don't see the big deal over the content of the movie. It was no more grusome than your average Discovery channel show. Still, I can find the actions behind the content objectionable. This guy is obviously just killing the rat for kicks. But hey, we step on cockroaches on-site just because we deem them as disgusting, does this make us any better? Yeah, probably...
 
Obviously a lot worse happens in nature... what's sick about the video is some kid is basically torturing and innocent animal for kicks. How can you compare stomping on a cockroach to watching a rat, who is struggling to stay alive even after chunks of it's body have been bitten off, getting eaten alive in a fishing tank? You can't.

This shit happens in nature, it shouldnt happen in some punks fishing tank. That kid should be thrown in the ocean so sharks can bit the shit out of his ass.

I'm not taking sides, but first, it seems that some people don't realize that the sounds seem to be added after the point of filming, and are from joecartoon flash movies (which have a stereotypical redneck hamster/mouse yelling at you and screaming as you kill it). Secondly, after seeing the video and reading the thread, I'm actually more creeped out by the mental image of small floating fish heads with moving mouths floating around a fish tank <shiver>. Definitely not getting a fish tank now :P
 
Seems like there's much more compassion for animals around here than for human beings.
 
Having owned a hamster for 3 years back in college this video makes me pretty sick to my stomach. Sure, natural order n all that, but that doesnt make it fun to watch :p
