Here are my impressions... firstly, the trailer kicked ass. Bruckheimer said that PIRATES 1 and 2 were ours d'ourves for the 3rd flick and the trailer does represent that.

It begins much like the last film’s trailer with the creepy little girl singing Yo-Ho Yo-Ho a Pirate’s Life For Me and then we see footage from the end of DEAD MAN’S CHEST, namely Barbossa’s reintroduction and the set-up for third film.

The new footage begins with a wreck of a ship sailing through icy waters. The design is very asian-influenced and on board we see Barbossa, ice in his mustache and beard.

The next shot is of that ship heading towards a huge waterfall as Naomi Harris, the voodoo lady, narrates again about goin’ “to dee ends ub dee urff…”

We don’t see how Captain Jack is rescued or saved, but our first look at Depp is onboard a ship, looking around at all the familiar faces from his previous crew and Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom.

Sparrow says, “Did no one save me just because they missed me?” And everybody kind of looks around guiltily, then the zombie monkey raises his hand.

The main thrust of the trailer was to set up the goal of Lord Beckett to wipe out all pirates, so that his greedy and corrupt corporation can have complete control of the seas and that all the pirates have to band together to stop him. There are four groups, each from a different corner of the world, including a glimpse of Chow Yun Fat.

Then the big stuff hit, epic shots of fleets of pirate ships engaging an enemy, cannonballs ripping wood.

I was a little worried that we didn’t see any Davy Jones in the trailer, hoping they didn’t just kind of throw his character and arc to the side, but then I caught a glimpse of him in a quick cut, Sparrow smacking him upside the head.

Then I caught more than a glimpse of him.

This is my favorite shot from the trailer. The camera circles around Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones as they duel. The kicker is they are up in the rigging of one of the ships, standing face to face on the mast… probably the Black Pearl, but I didn’t get a close enough look. I was more drawn to the fast and furious sword play. Looked great, like the best parts of the PHANTOM MENACE lightsaber duel with Maul and Obi-Wan. Maybe not as fancy, but definitely as furious.

The trailer ended with Jack Sparrow standing beside a cannon, holding a flame to the fuse as someone says, “Are you mad?” He replies, “If I wasn’t then this probably wouldn’t work,” and ignites the fuse, firing the cannon, which somehow releases a rigging somewhere and the rope Sparrow was holding yanks him up and off the deck of the ship.

Big applause and Bruckheimer said that there would be a big event to unleash the trailer in 25 cities March 19th. I think you might be hearing a little more about that soon…

Hopefully with the switch to a more 'Oriental' theme and story they dont loose the Pirate type music and score, its really good in the first not so much in the second.

Can't wait. POTC2 was so much better than POTC1, in every way. Haters be damned. It's a very well paced, non stop action adventure extravaganza. Is it extremely shallow? Hell yes. Is it weak when compared to other great sequels like Empire Strikes Back? Hell yes. But it's still damn awesome.

While I enjoyed Dead Man's Chest much more than my wife or anyone else I've talked to and more than the average poster online... No. Very much so, no.

Huge fan of both movies. I was worried about PotC 2 before I saw it, now, I pretty much have no fears concerning 3. Sounds awesome.

potc > dmc

the sequel had the same problem lots of sequels do: try to make everything bigger and lose the characterization and charm that made the first so entertaining.

plus, the first was such a surprise that you've got to have a soft spot for it as an underdog, as far as being a pretty entertaining flick. the second was--to put it lightly--bloated as hell.

Yes, man. Yes.

Many parts of POTC1 are pretty boring. The buildup scenes are also quite drab. POTC2 grabs you by the balls and never lets go. Perhaps my biggest complaint about it - other than the shallow nature of the movie - is the whole savages/island part. That could have been cut out imo, although it does have some pretty funny scenes.

I agree. Loved the first one but was very disappointed by the sequel.

I don't think it's better either, but that waterwheel fight scene was awesome. Best scene out of the series thusfar.

I didn't really like the first Pirates movie, but I thought the second one was incredibly fun. Looking forward to the third!

I refuse to watch that Russian one lol. I'll wait. Although...it feels kinda odd that the movie is coming out now. POTC2 was in the theater forever lol

I hope that this movie's better than the second one. While I don't think the writing or acting or anything was really bad (that I remember, haven't seen it since it was in theaters) the movie had a solid hour of extra film that really shouldn't have been there.

I still love it though, Kiera Knightley's in it.

OH MY GOD.

YES.

The movie looks freaking amazing!!!!

Loving the whirlpool ship fight!!!

This comes out on my birthday too, which makes it even better!!!

I am in love with the first 2 so this is absolutely and awesome birthday gift

That whirlpool fight looks incredible. In fact the whole thing looks like POTC+POTC2 x100. NO exaggeration!

Crazy goodness.

That movie looks INSANE! I loved the first and the second was just so much better. I have high expectations. The two ships firing at each other while going down a whirlpool!? What?! I gotta see that. Also Davy and Jack looked pretty epic as well.

Looks like I'll be watching Dancing with the Stars tonight

Love the part of the (Russian) trailer when Depp says something and everybody stands around confused. I half expected someone to be like "Yeah hey, Sparrow, we don't speak Russian, dude."
