Before anything else, a Pixar film was a cinematic event and paved the way for a new form of animation, starting with Toy Story 1, which is the one I've seen the most and the best in cinema.


The company amazed everyone with its great cultural events. The magic has already been lost because here in Mexico, at least Elio doesn't even have the promotion, and people don't talk about it.


And it's true, it's a piece of trash. It's mentioned that this film should have come out years ago, with production problems, costing $130 million, and Pixar's ineptitude drove the cost up to $300 million...


The film is a copy and paste of other films. The last good film for me was Wall-E.


The use of the same old cast of characters is getting tiresome; it doesn't innovate anymore, the same old Pixar models.

This scene is one of the best in animation and I still watch it and it's better than what Pixar has done, because of how memorable it is and the messages... Toy Story was the evolution of animation.

Whoever greenlit the character designs for Elio should be fired. I hear it's better than most of Pixar's recent slop but that's a low bar and its too visually unappealing for me to give it a shot.

My kids are excited to see it.

But yeah, the movie just feels devoid of inspiration. There's the generic protagonist, with his ugly CalArts face. There's the generic sci-fi setting, with its random and forgettable creature designs, which reminds me of a '00s-era Dreamworks movie, or like if someone bloated the wheezy sci-fi parts of Lilo and Stitch up to feature-length. There's the tired retreading of the laziest theme in every screenwriting room, parent issues.

I've liked a few post-Inside Out Pixar movies more than some people. I think Soul is a fascinating and complex movie, and The Incredibles 2 is a great action movie. Coco has some interesting stuff going on. I'm even one of the five people in the world who liked The Good Dinosaur well enough.

But yes, obviously, Pixar is a sad sad thing nowadays.

TBH though Pixar have been shite for a while. They are overthinking every film. All the emotional parts are fabricated now and remind me of youtube videos with sad music over them

I remember a time when all Disney sequels where straight to video. Now they seem to think there lazy ass sequels deserve in theater status.

Mexican dubbing of films is among the best in the world. Often even surpassing the original works... Take Dragon Ball Z, for example, and even Akira Toriyama acknowledged this.

Spiderverse changed the game and Pixar never adapted and doubled down on LGBT content in children's fiction. If I was straight I wouldn't take my kids to see any of their movies except Inside Out 2.

It's probably tricky because a lot of audience tastes these days skew so heavily towards things made for kids. So studios end up doing similar things catering towards that, which leads to burnout but at the same time, a lot of people aren't looking for much variety either

I haven't seen much past Onward or that bad dead musician guy one.

They really lost their mojo, and, though I don't agree with it normally, it did feel like a DEI/inclusivity priority then ironically made these recent movies unappealing.

Maybe conflating Pixar and Disney Animation might be a problem too? E.g. if i think the last wave is crap, not realising one or two may have been from Disney Animation studios, then it might negatively impact both of them? I've mixed up their movies plenty of times.

Whoever these new gen talent are...well, they are making some unappealing, boring stuff. This looks like a Concord level design. Ok, maybe not that bad, but a small budget YouTube project.

Pixar has been hit or miss for me lately

I loved Incredibles 2, Coco, Luca and Soul

But the rest of their output has been trash especially Turning Red and Elemental

It's amazing to see how much the quality has dropped since the 2000s
