PixelJunk Eden out now on Steam

It's best not to think of it as a "console port", this is a bit of a mis-conception. If you forget the ps3 version existed, you'll see that it's simply an excellent PC game.

I don't even know how we'd support the gamepad with Eden in its current form - perhaps you could move the jump targeting cursor around with the left stick or something? It would be a bit like playing an RTS with a gamepad.

I believe you that the mouse controls are far superior. It's just a pity that local multiplayer is now missing completely as a consequence of no controller support. I consider that one of the strongest features of the PS3 version, so it's a real shame that the PC version is now worse in that regard.

No multiplayer in the PC version? Real shame if so, Eden is still our households go to post-club multiplayer game. Nothing like a successfull last gasp desperate rescue swing when you and another player are high up in a garden.

Hey Dylan, just wanted to say that I recently bought Eden + Encore, Monsters + Encore, and Shooter 2 from the JPSN sale, and I'm really enjoying all three. It's funny though, the one I thought would be my most favorite of the three (Monsters) has turned out to be my least favorite (though still fun), and the one I thought would be my least favorite (Eden) has turned out to be my overall favorite.

Really, really loving Eden. Seriously. There's just something about it I can't quite put my finger on that's just amazing. Like, my jaw nearly hit the floor the first time I went into Garden 4. The colors and patterns in there are just amazing. Love it. :D

Thanks!! Monsters will grow on you too, believe me :)

Mouse controls make climbing faster and short jumps easier, but adjusting your trajectory mid-jump is really fudgy compared to the controller. The grimp seems to move really slowly, then suddenly shoot off like a rocket, and I'm having to wrestle it back and forth to keep it where I want. The acceleration's probably exactly the same, but it felt really natural on the controller. With the mouse, it's like holding on to wet soap.

I loved this game on the ps3, but it's a real bummer about the lack of controller support. I'll probably still pick it up during a sale, but I really don't like using keyboard / mouse controls. Is there any chance that Shooter will be ported to PC?

After full clearing the first garden I can say that this new control scheme feels just right. People that will get this without having played the PS3 version will have no problem whatsoever enjoying the control of the grimp from the get go, people that played the PS3 game will have just a few minutes to get used to the swinging and the aiming with the mouse and then it will just feel right. One hand gaming FTW. hehehehe The game is just what I need to relax a few minutes with the soothing music and art style. Here's hoping this Steam venture will fare well for you guys and that the Shooter series follows suit.

P.S. I have listened the OST while at work on my iPod non stop. So damn cool.

The remastered audio is excellent quality don't you think?

Superb! Super rich bass and you were not kidding that it really feels like a meatier sound. It helps that I am listening with better headphones on the iPhone/iPod and with a pseudo-surround system (I have a JVC SU-DH1 surround adaptor) and my Denon cans on my PC. Just sexiness in sound wave form.

Any news on a patch for pad support? Seems pretty clear to me that plenty of people want it.

My PC goes through my home cinema into my TV and my PC games are controlled entirely by pad. The only other input device is a media keyboard with combined (shitty) trackpad that I use to select my games. I can't be the only person in this position.

If not, it's no biggie, my PS3 copy still works fine. I'd just prefer it on my PC.

Was just going to mention how amazing the game sounds with a good set of cans. Fucking beautiful.

Wait a second, there is no multiplayer support at all in the Steam version? Neither local nor online? What does the number 1-3 mean on the bottom of the screen then? I always assumed that was about the number of players, so why is it in the Steam version?

That's a real shame, this is one of the most fun games ever in multiplayer.

Those numbers are just identifiers for each game in the PixelJunk series. 1-3 means that Eden was the third game in the first PixelJunk series. I love little conceptual details like this it shows that there is a connective creative vision behind all these games.

Definitely love the new control scheme, but was so confused in the first level that I couldn't do the silk jump immediately. Didn't realize (or remember?) I had to collect the first Spectra.

And add me to the list of people who feel like I'm losing my grip on time after hearing the game is 4 years old. Feels like it was two years ago.

It is a pretty funny coincidence that PJ Monsters (which supports up to 2 players) is labelled 1-2 and PJ Eden (which supports up to 3) is 1-3, though.

Have the forum rules changed and asking for ports is now OK?

I reckon that as in any rule there is good sense behind its enforcement. I don't see anyone doing hit-and-run kind of posts with zero substance pleading for PC ports of the PixelJunk games. In my case it was even more a case of well wishing than begging for a port, because I have no doubt that Eden coming to PC is just a test for Q Games to expand its business to another platform. I love their games, I would like that they keep doing them, they need to earn money to do so, the more money they earn the more games they can create (and better). Success!

Don't hate Lord Error.

In case you haven't noticed this isn't senseless port begging. Dylan Cuthbert is here posting and reading our posts. He even said this:

Right now it is an extra special one-off but who knows, I mean if the Steam fan base reacts well to it we could consider other titles or even releasing a brand new title to Steam exclusively, nothing is off limits for us really.

I'm really excited to see how the "wider world" will react on Thursday, and whether we really will see sales bigger than those on PSN. Fingers crossed!

There's actually two on this page alone, and from posters who didn't even posted in this thread before that. I guess it's OK for older games. I wouldn't mind more of PJ games to be on other platforms (heck I asked them if there will be Mac version)

I didn't realise I had to be so blatant in what was intended.

What should I do?

Both are rhetorical questions. To confirm, I am not actually asking for someone to buy it; just wanted to simply convey my desire for the game which is testing my mettle. I hope this goes to explain what was intended.

As always, context matters for these sorts of situations.

The worst type of port begging (which almost always results in a ban) is the type where a new game is announced for Platform X, and someone immediately begins begging for the game to be on Platform Y or Z, and complains that X isn't as good as Y or Z.

The best type of "port begging" would be akin to the Mass Effect 2 announcement for PS3. It is completely logical to question how the "story gap" created by having no ME1 on PS3 will affect users who jump right in to ME2. That is a logical discussion, based on real evidence -- ME2 is already really coming to PS3 (as is ME3), so it's reasonable to discuss ME1, as well.

This example falls somewhere in between these two extremes, but much closer to the latter example than the former. Eden is already out for the PC; Q games is actively in this thread discussing the possibility of other games coming to PC. That's a very different situation than 1) Game announced 2) "Put this on Vita please, 3DS is too kiddy!"

Happy to see Encore content in included. Going to pick up the Game + Sound Track bundle when I get home tonight!

Has anyone else had issues launching the game? Crashes for me the second I try to load it from Steam.

I did on my puny laptop with an integrated GPU. The game crashed and didn't even started, Then I checked the sys req in the game's Steam page.

Yeah system requirements are kind of vague. The irony being I have no trouble playing the game on my laptop, yet my desktop which is significantly more powerful refuses to run it.

Someone on the Steam forums found disabling triple buffering with ATI cards fixes crashing. Trying it with my nvidia card unfortunately didn't return the same results.

Ok do these games get stupid hard like the Bit.Trip games do? I'm never buying a Bit.Trip game again. Those bastards fooled me twice!

I never played the Bit.Trip games long because they were more frustratingly hard than challenging to me (got fooled twice too <.<) but never had that problem with Eden on the PS3. If this version is even more forgiving, you shouldn't have problems.

Eden can get quite challenging in latter Gardens/Stages with some cool new mechanics thrown at you, but at least in my experience the challenge is better paced than the Bit.trip games. But I absolutely love the Bit.Trip games also.

I'm sure it controls great, but all I know is that it's a gamepad game that suddenly doesn't have gamepad support. I'm sure many people think the same way, and it's a shame, because I would love to play this game. Sadly I only play on my TV with a gamepad. Best of luck to you guys with the game though!
Please patch in gamepad support

So is my goal in each garden to collect the seed thingies as fast as possible while jumping through as many enemies as possible?
