Planetside starting to die

Well Planetside isn't doing to well it seems because they've decided to put advertising boards all over the game. Now I've been playing Planetside on and off for over a year and damn this is annoying.

look at that shit. Basically the story of Planetside is that in the future earth discovers a warpgate type thing that leads to a planet called auraxis then the gate closes and the people stuck break into 3 sides each trying to reign supreme. So now we have ads that have no context in the game world what so ever. Ohh and it gets better.

Planetside is a ram hog, like overly so u need 2gb to get everything supersmooth (this is a game thats over 2 years old btw.) So anyway the developers have often stated that new textures etc can't be done because it will use too much ram. Someone counted all the ads that are now in the game and the total is 781. Although you'll only be loading at max around 80 of these at a time. I myself get about 10-20fps in super big fights this is going to make it even worse. Joy

Obviously most of the player base is rather pissed off atm. Every1 on the forums is now sporting wanta fanta adverts in their sigs :lol

SOE are obviously trying to squeeze as much money outta the game before the final nail enters the wood.

It's shit, but doesn't surprise me one bit. If I recall correctly, they wanted to do a similar thing with Infantry Online.

I spent a whole summer on that game (when it was launched) before I completely stopped, how did it turn out ? Still many players ? How about the gameplay ?
I can hardly imagine seeing some real life adds in the bases or talking to people over teamspeak about that upcoming movie advertised in the tower we're capturing...

its has been in steady decline, the developers are grinding to a halt in actually changing or fixing things. BFRs (big massive robots) were introduced and far to powerful and in the months after their appearance they were toned done loads and are considered by many to be the worst addition to the game. All the additions to the game have showed how crappy the engine is, the game runs worse now than when it was released despite 2 years of new technology.

Ohh and the lead developer/producer Sam Hayne has gone missing and another person has taken over his duties he's supposidly on holiday but most aren't expecting him to return.

don't get me started on infantry online - jerimy weeks is a fucking tool.

Such a shame. I played PS on and off from closed beta till long after the first expansion was released. I seemed like the developers were having a hard time tuning the core gameplay and ended up making things bigger rather than better. The early days when the skies were filled with dropships were amazingly fun.

I tried this game out once. Its basically just an FPS with a lot of players. I think it could've been great if it had more RPG elements in it while keeping the realtime twitch FPS action. Things like money, etc.

Hopefully Huxley will be better.

don't get me wrong it is still rather fun. Yesterday I was in the bomber seat of the liberator bomber and me and a chum on teamspeak were boming the length of a bridge that the two other factions were fighting across. Killed about 20 people in one pass :lol racked up 120kills in 2 hours.

The game is great fun if you have good teamworks. Before I quit the game, I was in a clan of about 90 people and usually a group of 20-30 of us would try to invade and capture a hostile base. We usually try to choose base with enemies that outnumber us just to see how good our teamwork was. I remember the time where the enemy outnumbered us 3-1 and we still won. Good funs.

I doubt they are getting any money for the movie ads. The movie ads in PlanetSide are all Sony Pictures releases and SOE is a division of Sony Pictures (NOT SCEA as some people on this forum like to believe).

Just look at the copyright on any SOE game:

A Sony Pictures Entertainment company.

I played PlanetSide all through beta and a couple months of retail. It was a ton of fun, but there wasn't enough to keep me playing longterm.

If you're still playing the game... Would you rather have ingame ads or the servers shutdown?

Just needed one gig for it to be smooth. Not two gigs. If you have 512 it's smooth outside but hitches when you move inside and vica versa. did the ads really up the memory requirement that much?
