PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Just bought this after having almost never played a game like this except for that one mod for Minecraft some years ago where everybody would start in a circle with chests in the center and you could either pick something up from there or run outwards and gather stuff there. I played one short game earlier where I died pretty early since I was playing around with the controls and whatnot (died #47 or so out of 90). I will start playing again in a bit, but I can already see how this game could be quite a ton of fun even solo.

With the current sub-par optimization in mind, will this game run on a gtx 560 ti? I know what the min specs are but I was able to get demanding games to run somewhat passably on my machine in the past. Should I jump in or not bother until I upgrade my machine?

What's your experience so far?

The game won't run properly even in a monster machine. If you are that afraid about performance, the best thing you can do is try the game then refund if you can't stand it, I have a GTX 970 and I have everything on low but 2 things on Ultra and I still have problems to play over 60 fps

The game is worth it, though.

Its CPU heavy not GPU heavy right now.

My pro-tip is to buy and try it out or refund should it not be running to your liking. Steam have a 2 hour playtime refund window so you can do a couple matches.

I wonder if this will be the first one of these games that actually makes it to console. Definitely seems like the most polished one I've seen yet at this early access stage. Obviously they would need to scale back some things to make it work though.

I've been watching a lot of Battleground Twitch streams. I used to watch a ton of ARMA Battle Royale streams, fun getting back into it now.

Player Unknown clearly have a handle on this genre, they did start it after all.

It'd be really nice if they could implement kill cams when you die. Since you only get one death per match and most of the time it comes out of nowhere, it'd be nice to get a bit more context. I just died at #32 after about 15 minutes of careful looting and only crawling through tall grass when moving in the open, and I was still just two-shotted by some asshole with a SCAR I couldn't even see. Most matches I don't even get a round fired off, no matter how many guns I find.

Spectator mode would be really useful, too.

Killcam in solo will happen.

Finally got my first win last night in a squad game with some friends.

I decided it was my final game after 8 hours of streaming over on beam and that was the one lol

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'll probably check the game out to see how it runs.

ReShade is allowed bear in mind R6 Seige uses BattleEye and doesn't allow re-shade.
It is also a dll injector commonly used in cheats I think it's an unnecessary risk to take, considering. I'd recommend staying far far away from anything that's a dll injector.

Seems like a really easy way to get yourself potentially banned without any process for appeal regardless of whats said.

Anyone playing this AND kotk? I was originally interested in kotk since I enjoy watching ceez' twitch streams but before PUBG came out of beta I started to watch and follow it more and more and decided to start here since it was new.

Currently play PUBG with a group of friends and we love it but I've still have this feeling I should try out kotk as well. I know it's obviously very different in some ways but wondering if any of you actually enjoy both depending on mood, solo vs grouping, etc.

kotk is much slower and has just as many issues despite being in development for much longer. i refuse to reinstall it because i just think its not going to get better and theres nothing it can offer that pubg cant really

This game seems pretty good.

What surprises me about it is that the shooting actually feels good. Getting into firefights in most other survival games is a crapfest that isn't fun at all. This game feels pretty great with the satisfying weapon feedback, multiple camera viewpoints, tight movement, etc.

In comparison to recent open world shooters, I would say it feels far better than Ghost Recon Wildlands.

It's much slower? It seems like it plays a lot faster and much more arcadey versus the slower more strategic gameplay of PUBG.

My only issue with PUBG so far is that I feel like I spend so much time acquiring decent gear and then get popped with absolutely no idea of where it came from. I guess this could be an issue with kotk as well but it seems a little more forgiving when you get into a firefight as opposed to constantly getting 1 or 2-shot. Just my impressions from watching streams.

PUBG you can play however you want.

5 minute games?
10? 20?

You can drop as far away from people as you can get or go balls to the walls and drop with a crowd and play death match.

You'll have some games every now and then where you loot forever and just die but for the most part map skill and general gameplay experience will limit that factor as player placement and that goes.

if not literally slower its at least way more exhausting. with pubg i find myself going just one more when kotk just makes me feel exhausted. in pubg i get a rifle every game, i feel like i get one in half of the games i played of kotk.

the only reason streamers seem to get caught off guard less than you is because their positioning is better and they know what theyre doing

On my way to the rally point, I kept almost catching up with this one guy in a car. Pretty sure he was using it as bait to lure somebody into stealing it so he could shoot them.

The zone shrunk, and then I got an idea. I ran up a hill a distance away on the opposite side of the car and shot the tires that he probably couldn't see. Then I sat there and watched as he eventually got in his car and failed to drive properly. The blue zone was pretty close, so I conveniently got into my own car and drove back around until I was behind him.

And then of course I ran him down. Died 5 minutes later, but it was so worth it.

3rd place, getting close to winning. Burst m16 for the win!

While the game is fun, it's a bit boring. It doesn't have enough action imo.
Most of the time you don't even see other players and I literally try to find enemies to shoot.
Maybe they should up player count to 200, make map smaller (or make a new map that's smaller) or make that blue circle more aggressive.

I've been playing solo. I'm waiting for my buddies to get this game, so I can try group play. I hope is more exciting when you play against teams.

I mean, if you want action drop with the rest of the people, it gets hectic

Only thing I'm not a fan of with this game and with some more like this (Arma for example), is that they're based on Eastern European-ish barren towns and landscapes that are incredibly boring to look at.
I wish there was a game like this with a neater town with like McDonalds and shit on it, hah. Maybe some Hawaii-ish small island with small towns spread around.

Hopefully they update one day with a new map. In the meantime, I'm really liking this game for what it is, and can't wait to get home and play some more :D

Man this game can be frustrating. 2 games where I got off to a good start equipment wise only to be one shotted by a shotguns and ended up ranked in the 40s and 50s. 2 more games were I was rank 97 out of 98 and another I died when I was rank 86.

Then I had my 2 worse starts. One the only weapons I could find were shotguns and pistols. Got 2 kills at the end and got rank 4. Last game I could only find pistols and an uzi. Finally found an SKS but only 30 bullets. Ended up killing 2 people at the end again and getting rank 2 the best I've ever gotten. Had to quit on that note.

Game is so frustrating and nerve wracking but fun as hell.

Agreed, the Soviet style can get boring after a while. Would love an american suburb map complete with a giant strip mall with a knock off best buy and fast food places. Replace fields with trees with parking lots and cars.

Yuck that doesn't sound like fun at all. I like the slower pace of the game. If you want constant action maybe Battlefield is better for you.

Rarity of encounters is one of the things that keeps the game tense af. You gotta have the quiet moments so that the louder ones hit harder, I feel like it's a perfect balance imo. Matches on avg only last 30 minutes so it's never a long time without anything happening.

It will never change either in terms of which component it will rely on. Some ultra settings might help offload some work to your GPU if not now then maybe in the future.

2 hour refund is the best way for anyone to try this game right now.

There are also config's you can use in the steam guide section to make your game look more barebones than what the in-game settings will allow so try those and you might get better FPS.

Played this for the first time tonight (ignoring the one test round I did prior to tonight) and man, this is really fun.

I never really got into these battle royale style games before. They always seemed to be a bit too difficult to really get into or had too many mechanics going on. This one? It's pretty easy to jump into.

My friend and I did about two hours of duo tonight without even realizing it. Best finish was fifth, which I was rather pleased about.

My GTX 770 isn't too happy though.

First GAF Squads win: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtNRt9W1kRE

Drop into middle of large southern river, look for boat for 10 minutes, lose 1/4 players in search of boat, finally find boat, boat runs out of gas before getting to Mylta, try to scale cliffs along the shore but fail hard, team finds first guns/items at "50 left alive", drive around shrinking circles with minimal loot and chaos all around us, kill one guy who killed another guy who was killing another guy (2v2v1), win game.

10/10 would go on a fucking adventure while everyone else kills each other again.

I hope they add tanks at some point. Hard spawn, imagine all the players rushing to get the tank lol.

Crates are great but you gotta have more chaos

That would break the game totally imho

I mean, that's transform the game into a TPS battlefield where players rush into vehicles and there's a big unbalance, PUBG is not about the chaos but about the tension and the tactical approach to everything.

I get your point, but this game has another design on mind, the total opposite.

Might as well add MRLS, tactical nukes and attack helicopters with the addition of some grenade launchers and a lock on rocket or two. Perhaps even a javelin rocket guidance system that a player can control for maximum chaos.
