PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

How do they mean make grass not have effect on gameplay? It should be always visible on every setting - is that what he means?
I have no played yet but I have seen everyone playing on low settings on the streams because of that?

"We want to make it more like Battlefield 1 grass that doesn't really have an effect on gameplay"

In Battlefield, the decorative grass doesn't raise above the height of someone prone. It's another way of saying the grass won't be useful as a tool to visually obscure yourself (obviously not including stuff like bushes).

played my first few matches, best I could do was top 15 but then died to THE ZONE.
This game feels really polished. I have not played those types of games yet but I can see myself getting addicted for sure. Hopefully they add a few more game modes that changes things up a bit.

So they remove the grass that is in there now and then repalce it with ugly, but balanced grass? Hmm.

Today I prematurely opened fire on a guy and my entire squad got mowed down from all directions in the ensuing chaos.

No ragrets.

Bought this today because of all the positive hype and I like a battle royale, started it up, changed the settings to fullscreen rather than fullscreen windowed.

Now the resolution is all fucked up and I cant press any of the buttons (technically I can but the actual buttons are displaced from clickable space).

So I cant access the options menu to change it to fullscreen again.

EARLY ACCESS FUCK YEAH

Where is your Windows taskbar? I usually have mine vertically on the left side of the screen and it displaces the actual mouse position in game. Had to put the taskbar horizontal to correct the issue.

I'm having a hard time adjusting to the controls. An embarrassing amount of time is spent each fight just trying to look down my sights, either because I forget looking down the sights is a toggle instead of hold, or the wall in front of me is too close so it keeps kicking me out.

Is loot evenly distributed, or do some locations get clearly better loot (not just more of it)? Since I'm just starting out I try to drive to some far off buildings away from cities, but I have a hard time finding rifles and sights. Am I just unlucky, or do I need to go to a city/base to get a rifle?

I've had a few matches now that I am able and I've never been so resolutely confused at the popularity of a game.

I spent about 5 minutes sprinting and then some bloke ran me over with a dune buggy.

Am I missing something here because it feels like I die immediately because someone found a shotgun in the first 10 seconds of playing, or I last about 20 minutes with fuck all happening and then get killed by the magic lightning thing because I happened to eject in the wrong place.

Controls, distances etc. get better more you play. Muscle memory starts to kick in.

Loot isn't evenly distributed, but there is hotspots on the map with higher possibility of e.g. Tier 3 loot. These maps should give you some idea, but still basically every house can have something nice:

I am no pro but here are a few tips.

- Wait for the airplane to be at least half empty before jumping out.
- Aim for a building while skydiving.
- Get speed while skydiving, that let's you chute a bit later (and hit the ground earlier)
- Look around whith your parachute out so you do not get close to anyone while approaching the ground.
- Get into a building ASAP, there is usually a gun in every building as long as it's not looted already.
- Then proceed to your liking - stay at the edge or center of the play area, but always hug walls/buildings/trees.

Do yous think this would run ok-ish on an i5 2400 with a 1050ti? Those appear to be well above minimum. Im building an off the shelf refurbed HP or Dell with an added gpu for my kids, because i dont want them touching mine. But i havemt picked out parts yet for mine and may not for a couple months, so i kinda want to ise theirs

Yeah, I'm sure it'll get better, but it's rough starting out.

Thanks for the maps, that will definitely help.

*avatar quote* :p

But no. I've started playing just two days ago and now I'm getting frequently within the top 15 or so. The way I'm doing it is just by jumping off the plane and fly to one of the sides outside the main path the plane follows, make sure nobody else is parachuting near my area, and then loot everything I can and walk slowly towards the play area while checking every corner. Sometimes I might pick up a car and just drive to somewhere near the center of the play area and then set camp around there.

That a buggy was able to catch you probably means either you were walking straight and not looking around, or not listening to the sounds in the game (pretty damn important), or had some terribly bad luck.
To me at least, this game is about keeping crouching 80% of the time, and prone the rest :p

It's one of those mill sim games where you get bogged down in the shear amount of controls you have available to you, which can cause issues in fights.

Once it clicks, then there are no issues, other than some delay in entering vehicles, buildings, and picking up equipment.

Drag & Drop

Open inventory with tab and literally drag & drop gear you want into your inventory from the ground. Skips picking up animation.

AHHHHHHHHH

Finally got a solo win/win I wasn't dead for that crackbabjr had to carry me to. I got incredibly lucky near the endgame when I killed someone slowly driving by me who had an AWM + 15x scope. Happened to have really good positioning relative to everyone else with it and went from 0-6 kills in the last 10 minutes. Holy shit winning this game is fun.

Now back to my regularly scheduled losing.

Also want to note that I equipped goggles and a dirty white tank top right before this game. I'm a firm believer in those clothing meta now.

It's literally a matter of how tall it is. They wouldn't have to remove anything, they could take the current grass and move it downwards a few units. Pretty sure that wouldn't upset the current's aesthetics.

Broke my no Early Access rule and grabbed this game over the weekend on a friend's recommendation, have played 12 matches or so by now. Definitely feels janky at times and the performance is pretty bad on my 3570k + gtx970, prob around 20-40 fps average with almost all low settings at 1080p. Despite this, it is very addictive and fun. Just hope the devs keep improving it, would love to play it in a more finished/optimized state.

Frustrating they I keep dying due to having to run from the already tiny circle and just get shot by a guy I can't see or figure out where he is quickly enough to fire back.

One I had today, I was in the final 19, and it was closing around the hill where the church is in Pochinki. I had to leave the house I was in to get in the circle, so I went out the back and made a run for it. I saw one guy I put a couple of shots on, but he didn't die, and at the same time I was suddenly getting shot by another that by the time I saw where he was, I was dead already.

It was an honor.

Good games yesterday, man! Well played and good shooting. That was a ton of fun. Duos/Squads always feels a lot more calming, win or lose. Probably just having buddies to communicate and develop a camaraderie with is the main reason.

His interview with Glixel was pretty heartwarming too. Going into his late 30s with no real career aspirations after pursuing a failed love interest that left him broke and halfway across the world from home. He believed so much that eventually he could get masses of people as excited about a BR genre as he was when first developing the ArmA mods. Going from his parents believing he'd be living on the street soon to now helping them with their financial situation purely from the success that spawned from his dedication over the last few years. What a cool success story.

Love this bit too:

Battle Royale was released in 2013. It won an audience almost immediately. Greene ran everything by hand, which meant that he stayed up all night keeping the servers online. "I remember tweeting out "Okay, I have to sleep now, the servers will be back tomorrow," he says. Greene still pays a monthly $2,000 to keep those servers online...

Has desync been worse than ever for everyone lately?

I've been experiencing instant takedowns in duos, no downed state at all, just instantly being killed. A lot of firefights that we clearly have the advantage in we keep losing because it's like the server interprets us being out of cover for longer than we actually are, meaning we'll take cover again and then inexplicably die despite not being exposed.

Hope they can get it in order, it's always had some connectivity issues but it's never seemed this bad.

Yeah, been getting worse lately as well. 1-2 shots hitting me when I already made it to cover. Shots not registering. Insanely frustrating, especially when I see a player a split second before he sees me and I pull my gun first but my first shots just go right through him and I get 2 tapped. D:

lmfaooooooooooooo

Finally won a couple duos. Had to stop playing since the desync was getting out of control. Just no hit registration the last game.

Also,occasionally shooting through windows and
/or shooting near objects sometimes just doesn't work. Really frustrating! Otherwise I am actually having way more fun in this game than I thought I would.

Good morning people of the battlegrounds.

Oh, the patch is delayed? Oh that is breaking my schedule so much 😄 😄
Just let the servers be on when I get home. 👌

Dunno what happened to the game but my fps dropped in half since two days ago (3570K, 1070, 16 GB RAM). Anyone else with this problem? Have reinstalled drivers, check settings ect but no luck..

Great! Any clarification on what the sound fixes are exactly?
Should hear footsteps and doors along with the sound of thunder now. Those are just what I remember them listing as being corrected.

edit:
Fixed an issue with door sounds playing at low volume
Adjusted volume of wind, rain, and footsteps
Improved the sounds for the buggy
When in rainy weather, you will now sporadically hear thunder sounds
