PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

I bought this game about 1 week ago, 2 weeks ago, confident that it would be the first decent battle royal game with fluid fps controls, but that is definetly not what I found. The game is in terrible condition, apart from the wonky controls, bugged animations, texture popups and so on, it has terrible optimization. I can play Witcher3 on Ultra at 60fps, while here I get a mix of 20-40 fps that seem to act randomly.

Im not the only one with these issues, since I bought with 3 friends, and we've all asked for a refund. I undertand this is "ealry access", but the game shouldnt even be sold in such an early stage as this, this is pre-alpha stage i'd say, and will probably damage the player base in the future.

The moment you brought up Witcher 3 is the moment I stopped reading.

It's early access. That means its an unfinished product, and when you buy into it, you buy in the acknowledgement that its a work in progress.

The gunplay is goooood in this. The sound/feedback of shooting the guns is really good and it makes a 5 seconds firefight super intense. Love it.

Seems like you don't understand early access then.

Well they have, they are called Early Access players ;) No matter how you look at it Early Access is more or less paid access to beta and to be tester.

You have no idea what pre-alpha game looks like, do you?

What is Early Access?
Get immediate access to games that are being developed with the community's involvement. These are games that evolve as you play them, as you give feedback, and as the developers update and add content.

Wait, if you jump form a running vehicle, you "run over yourself"??? No way!
I got some neat weapons and was driving a vehicle towards my next stop. I wanted to stop fast since there could be someone there so I decided to hop from the vehicle while moving slowly and I apparently killed myself by... running over myself. Wat!

Yep, happened to me and one guy that did want to kill me as well. Vehicles are death traps :D

Got this on Steam last night and I'm enjoying it. When can we expect a performance patch? My 1070 barely gets 60 on low/medium.

Any plans for this to come to console?

They plan to roll out at least one performance focused patch per month. They are currently working on improving shadow tech and general occlusion (?), when they get patched in game should be far less CPU bound.

They want game on consoles, but main focus is on getting PC version done first.

They stated they will do console releases after the PC version is no longer in Early Access, though they apparently already have it up and running on Xbox One internally.

I don't even see how this is going to appeal to console users. It's going to launch with a limited to non-existent marketing budget and the gameplay is super niche.

PASS from years of playing Early Access titles.

Game development is difficult, toss millions of players into an alpha that you need to continually develop while they have complete access is exponentially more difficult.

It doesn't need a marketing budget, it has twitch. It's easy for games to do incredibly well nowadays without a big marketing budget thanks to streamers and youtubers advertising the game for them.
Plus a lot of the biggest games this year are "niche", looking at Nier, Persona, Nioh, and all have done very well on console.

Eh, not quite sure you can call something that's already sold over 1 million copies in less than a month "niche". The rest of the year will see two BR games of completely different styles dominating the Top 5 of the Steam stat charts.

I also believe there's also a strong market of console-only players who are knowingly and unknowingly tired of the formulaic nature of multi-player shooters where you respawn endlessly every round just to rack up points without really being challenged from a tactical perspective or encouraged to do anything other than run around almost aimlessly looking for the next thing to shoot.

The problem is that no AAA studio respects the intelligence, patience, or attention-span of the Halo/CoD/BF crowd enough to take the risk of pushing out such a punishing game mode like this as a big budget title. Bluehole will be the first to tap into that crowd and it's gonna rock the industry.

Have you ever even purchased another early access game? This is easily one of the most stable of them lol

Your comparisons are laughable btw.

Honestly if it doesn't come out on console they're probably fine at this point. 1 million copies while having months more of early access. That's pretty good.

You'd be surprised how many people are coming into our channel when we stream it on beam and asking us when its coming to console.

I remember people saying the same thing about ARK having no marketing, etc. and wouldn't work on console. Yet its huge on console.

I tried US server to see is it better than local EU server, it sure is!
When I play on EU servers it's pretty bad. Desync ruining kills, door opening/item picking is slow and is all around stutter fest.

Everything was so much smoother on US server, stuff like item picking was almost instant. I got 3 perfect kills, because this time around all my shots finally registered. It was great!

Now I understand why some EU pros play on US servers and why reddit thread is full of "EU servers suck".

Agreed, im in the planning a pc build stage because of this. I play 2 games on my ps4, rocket league and world of tanks, i used to play cod and bf but am so sick of them.

This game would do millions on console, without a TV ad. But not these consoles, not yet. Scorpio might run it ok, but until they use an actual cpu, forget it.

Are the servers sketchy for you guys at all tonight? Yesterday seemed okayish. Kind of rough today in my experience.

NA?

It's funny, last couple of days before this all the desync and input lag was horrible for me but today has been magical. Way more smooth.

I bought the game and it was fun but after every match I'd have to quit to desktop to play another match because the buttons where gone. So I refunded it. Have they fixed this issue yet? I'll rebut it again when it works but I had a blast.

We're aware of the lag issues on the servers & have tracked down the root cause. This will take us some time to fix, so please bear with us.

Daaamn, I should try this out when I get home. Quite annoying how item picking and weapon switching aren't instant on the EU servers.
