I've only played about 10 rounds, so I'm still pretty new to the game. In general, I like to parachute into a small group of buildings away from the hotspots, so I can get some gear in peace and try to last until at least the Top 20. Most of the time, I'm successful and can avoid other players initially. But last night, I happened to pick a group of buildings where another guy was dropping into. He went into one house, I picked a different one. He found a mini Uzi, I found a crowbar. I left my house to head into a different one, looking for a gun, and he spotted me, following me in. It was really close quarters, and I saw him coming, so I gave him 2 solid hits with the crowbar before he fired a single bullet, then got another hit on him before he gunned me down.
I was pretty disappointed by the game design/mechanics in this situation. I don't necessarily think I should have killed him with two hits from a crowbar, but it at least should have been a situation where the game made him dazed and confused, unable to see straight or something. It's just demoralizing to be outgunned, get the jump on your opponent, yet still lose. Standard guns should definitely win easily at long or medium distances, no doubt, but at short distances, shotguns and melee weapons should be king. And shotguns are, but melee weapons just seem completely useless. I mean, 3 hits from a crowbar can't down an enemy? Really? Maybe it was just early game lag that did me in, but I still found the situation pretty frustrating.
