PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Put about 10 hours or so i think in. Have yet to win a game but i'm loving it so far. Getting in squads and looting and running around to inevitably battle another group feels so rewarding. I never felt rewarded from dayz / h1z1 but pubg does it so much better.

Glad i bought it, will continue to put 10-15 hours over the weekend probably.

Update hitting at the top of the hour. Info below about the changes. Also worth reading their brief comments on cheating and the found lag fix at the link below.

This patch will be deployed for both clients and servers Thursday, April 13, 5PM KST/1AM PDT/8AM UTC and is expected to take approx. 1 hour to complete.

Config Changes
Fixed configuration files (ini) so that it cannot be used to hide trees, grass, etc.
Prevented adjusting the FOV by changing the game settings file (ini).
FOV will be adjustable from the settings menu in-game in a future update.

Sound
Fixed an issue with door sounds playing at low volume
Adjusted volume of wind, rain, and footsteps
Improved the sounds for the buggy
When in rainy weather, you will now sporadically hear thunder sounds

Bug Fixes
Added more support for non-standard aspect ratios. The game will now display at the correct FOV on aspect ratios ranging from 4:3 to 21:9. Multi-monitor environments such as Eyefinity are not recommended at this time.
Fixed an issue with the compass direction not displaying correctly

I swear this was in the other patch notes the other day.

I really hope they fix those foot steps. They're way too loud.

So grabbed this last week. I've won about 5 games now after playing 25 games or so. Why are the rewards for group so much shittier than duo and single? Half my games are duo which is where I've won most my games. But group just has terrible rewards. We usually make it to the final couple groups. Last 10 typically. Sometimes even with a few kills I'll walk away with only 100 points or so after a thirty minute match. Where in Duo or Single I'll walk away with a couple hundred.

Hell yes! The end of this game was insane. The circle collapsed so that it was cutting through the building that we both somehow ended up in. I was upstairs and had to go back into the force field to get to the steps. He must have assumed that there was no way for me to be up there because he was camping the entrance below and wasn't watching the top door. I went through this entire game with just a shotgun and SMG. Looks like I dumped the entire magazine into him. The violence in this game is much more brutal and memorable than most games in my opinion.

Not my servers but the tick rate to my knowledge is ~40Hz for client > server and ~20Hz for server > client

Nice. Also having two weird issues you may need to look into.

When changing graphics preset, background changes to white.

Also sometimes initial menu doesn't load. Guess has to do sonething with the servers.

I haven't purchased yet (waiting for the weekend), but this has quickly become one of my favorite games to watch on Twitch. The funny thing is, the streamer skill doesn't affect my enjoyment as much as it does in other games. I have just as much fun watching an ill-advised/horribly executed attempt at engaging enemies with height/cover advantages and the resultant bloodbath as I do a well-prepared squad getting the Chicken Dinner.

I'm not on the dev team but the white and/or other solid colors as well as being stuck on the church screen is known.

The church issue seem to occur mostly when the game window is out of focus before it starts loading.

Edit: I've corrected my earlier post with new server tick information.

So when you buy a crate, the price doubles. Do more expensive crates yield better items? Otherwise, aren't you just better off waiting until the price resets?

Edit: Ok, found an answer on the first part of that. So is it true that the price resets after a week?

Thanks for the feeeback.

Finally bought this. I played a lot of Arma 2 back in the day, then DayZ mod/wasteland and then Arma 3 but recent life changes meant I just didn't have the time to invest in those games like I did. This game is perfect for me now, I can have a distilled version of those games that's guaranteed to last an hour or so.

Playing this in 4k as well and I'm impressed with the performance for an early access game.

Man you can have some amazing moments in this game.

I was pretty deep into a match last night, had the LMG from the supply drop and was hanging out between a cliff/hill and a rock waiting for a good opportunity to move toward the circle.

I hear a car in the distance, look around, see nothing, then suddenly the car flies over the cliff behind me and above my head and flies like 50 feet through the air before it lands. Once it landed, I'm just lighting it the fuck up with my LMG. After like 100 bullets he dies and the thing explodes.

Use the explosion as an excuse to sneak around behind some other hills to get to the circle. Once I do, of course I see another guy in the hills/trees looking towards the firey wreckage, just waiting for the survivor of the fight to run through the open area, toward him and the circle. So I off him too.

Died shortly later but hey, I got 11th place.

My character suddenly got some horrible hairstyle after the patch. Kinda annoying that I have to spend 3000 points to get rid of it.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly:

In the dev post, they mention that the issues with the servers is a core engine thing and will take time to fix. So that is not the "fixes" that went out post-patch, right?

Anyone played since then? Does it feel any better now? The last few days have been a crapshoot on NA. I know they're working on it, just not sure if the fixes they tweeted about and the "core engine fixes" are one and the same. I assume not!

Finally got to one of two left surviving and it was very tense. The two of us were out in a field with a road in between us, with the road slightly elevated, so we each had our little trench/incline next to the road, to hide. The blue wall of death finally came down on us, so we both stood up and dashed onto the road. I don't even care that they got me. It was a lot of fun and a dramatic end.

This game is really something.

This game needs a practice mode, I want to learn how bullet drop/velocity works in this game. I'm missing the easiest shots because I have no clue where to aim.

The car shit in this makes me so fucking angry. There's literally no counter to it early game. I stand 5 feet away from a tree and it STILL clips through and kills me. So fucking dumb.

Just curious, when you guys start a round, do you specifically go out of your way to drop in somewhere kind of away from the path of the plane to isolate yourself from others? A lot of times as I'm dropping in, if I see someone dropping in on the same cluster of buildings I'm headed to I'll try to veer off into another area. But I wonder if I should hold my ground and gamble that I'll get him before he gets me.

Rather frustrating today, I think the latency was on most matches (that only took like 5 minutes each) was waaaay over 2000ms, making basic things like walking through doors incredibly hard.

I've tried the latter option a few times and never seem to have all that great of luck. If I or my team see multiple people heading to a location, we'll almost always decide to head somewhere else, unless our numbers are higher in which case we'll stay on course. This happens more than I thought it would in squads, seems ppl like to play those solo as well.

Reached Top 5 at the very end with my group, only like 10 guys left. Killed two people. 59 points. WTF is with Team Rewards. They are awful for group.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!

I mix it up. Sometimes I want an early game deathmatchfest and fight people early on. This has been getting increasingly difficult for me lately because
I'm bad and
the servers have been not so hot early game lately.

Other times I try to stay the hell out of everyone's way and loot as much as I can while trying to put myself in a good spot. The problem is usually that no matter where I go, there's always someone who also ends up there. So it ends up being a difference of "Do I want to fight a lot of people or only a few?"
