PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

I mean, they explain right there why it's taking so long. Making games is hard and this seems like a complex system considering they have to retrofit it in.

Yup. There's the fact that if even one area has vaulting done incorrectly, then imagine if there was a few spots on the map that you can 'vault' into a wall.

The primary cause of death in the game should be getting outplayed by an opponent, either through gun play, strategy, loot, preparation, or positioning. NOT circle RNG. Period.

I disagree it is what makes PUBG so accessible, it is a VERY RNG based game, the circle, the loot, the plane drop, the opponents you run into, the timing of running into someone, the red zone. The game design is focused on RNG with shooting being a secondary but very solid shooting mechanics.

The circle is just part of the strategie and well RNG of where you decide to drop. It is super easy to see where the first circle is which give you plenty of time to get a ride or go for a run then it is all about position, do you want to hug the circle and risk being way out of position or do you want to hang around the centre so you'll never be too far from centre.

Youre right, it allows even the lower skilled players to eventually win, regardless of their strategy.

Since there are cars in the game dying to a circle is you own fault. It still happens to me pretty often but searching for a vehicle and arriving in the save zone at the last second is always exciting, in a way. I love it and it can stay just as merciless as it is.

Sometime I like showing up to the party late. Not many people in unranked fpp check the blue for stragglers. This may change once the mmr for first person is implemented.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
PUBG is one of those games where I'm certain the dev team has to be careful about what they implement and how. With a huge open world with decently impressive geometric density and network support for up to 100 players, in addition to trying to appeal to a wide assortment of hardware configurations and thus players, the tiniest little fuck up in implementing a new game system that relies on geometric collision detection and hit boxes could see a hit to moment-to-moment performance due to an overtaxed CPU and wonky, unreliable hitboxes. Vaulting no doubt falls into that category; something they can and will implement, but needs to be fully tried and tested to avoid serious bugs and performance issues.

Anyway, despite my earlier grievances and general apathy towards PUBG, I can safely say I am now hooked.

Me and my friends may be in the minority, but we have fun comparing stats.. Yesterday we had a particularly good set of matches - with a squad win and lots of kills.

The thing is - none of the games show up on the usual stat tracking sites like pubg.me or pubgtracker.com... Will those games show up eventually? Is this a known problem? Couldn't find anything on it, but they don't show up for anyone in our team. Was on the EU squad servers...

This is pretty frustrating, since we had some of the best games and teamplay we had so far. Everything clicked.

duos are just the best, playing any other way just puts me into instant clown mode. but duos are just fun every time and feels rife with opportunities to play well and communicate easily. all while not having to be bored if you camp, and not having to split so much loot or have dummies in your squad run off to their death

It's rare you get completely circle fucked anyway in my experience, it could do with a little adjustment but it's mostly a great mechanic IMO. I find if I get killed by the circle it's usually my fault for sitting on the edge of it for so long anyway rather than moving to the center instead. RNG can indeed be a factor but more often than not it's your fault for putting yourself in a situation where you could be affected by it anyway.

I don't think FPP stats are being tracked yet.

Yeah true. The only times I can say I've been even remotely fucked by white circle RNG is when it's down to a 1v1 and the last white circle lands directly on the other player. But then there's plenty of times I've been the one getting the circle and the other player is fucked, so it goes both ways.

Sure, all games were 3rd person.

There's a problem with the leaderboards at the moment for some players, they're looking into it.

That's good to know...

So is the foggy setting as awesome as I want it to be? With flash hiders getting more important and otherwise shots lighting up in the far distance?

Oh man, I haven't even thought about flash hiders being potentially even more useful.

Just played my first fog match and it was atmospheric as hell. Loved it

Nice! Looking forward to playing some test server matches tonight!

Please, please please Bluehole utilise your new fog effect locally at random places each round on this map and make it a sort of sandstorm. Please. It would be amazing.

Yep, that's what I'm hoping too.. Random Sandstorms would be so amazing. Maybe they do a little bit of damage like the first zone, but you can use them to get from a) to b) without being seen or heard.

Got a tommygun chicken dinner yesterday so obviously the most exciting news in these patchnotes is TOMMYGUN AS WORLD SPAWN!

Gonna have to run squad games with only tommyguns and trenchcoats allowed.

Fog is gonna make things like the VSS and silenced SMGs a lot more powerful, since it limits some ranges to where those weapons would be perfect and they make less noise than silenced ARs or SRs.

Regarding the circle, the only thing I would change is the last 3'ish circles and remove the randomness from them and just have them constantly creep in closer and closer so you can plan your approach better. Right now its very RNG if your perfect cover is in the next circle or not and can just give you the win or take it away (always fun when you win it anyway...). Basically when the circle is so small there is only 5-15 players left and everyone is within viewing distance of each other the circle really needs to stop being random and just shrink continuously at a slow rate. The early circles are fine as RNG because they dont deal a lot of damage and you can't give people the information about where the circle is gonna end up too early.

Anyone having problems getting reshade up and running? Just made a fresh install on a new computer but I'm not seeing any of the .fx files showing up in my config when I boot up the game.

Welp, no Vaulting for another 2 months (at least) sure does suck, and puts it a month behind even some of the more generous members of this thread's expectations.

This also pretty much puts the kibosh on PUBG coming out of Early Access this year, right, unless Vaulting is going to be the last patch before release? Testing in Early November likely actually means testing in Mid to Late November, then released in December.

No way are they going to do two major patches in a month when managing one was apparently too hard, so that'll be that.

Also the overhauled north-east:

This is a cool and unexpected change.

New maps would be great, but changes to the existing map are awesome too.

So overwhelming.
So stagnant.

Should be twice as big, the northeast is useless.

I've had a large amount of wins come out of Stahlber drops and being around the region. It's a pretty nice place to be for a lot of reasons, one of which is how remote it is while still having enough loot. I'd rather it stay as close to that as possible while adding in enough value to make it just a bit better. Also maybe the circle will actually close in there now.

How does the fog actually work? Is it like their proposed weather system they talked about at E3 where any round can have a chance of fog appearing and disappearing throughout the match?

A bunch of those other buildings are new also, so hopefully that'll make it a more viable drop.

Pic from Reddit, the red circled stuff is new:

Adding stuff to Stalber is nice, since that's constantly a disappointment for being so out of the way.

In the patch notes they still said they plan to end early access before the end of the year. I get what you're saying though. That timeframe doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. But they could have hinted at the release slipping and they didn't FWIW.

Just had my first pacifist Chicken Dinner in duo! Neither me nor my mate even fired a single shot. In the last circles with 11 alive we were in the only house in the circle so we prepared for a heavy siege but no one came and everyone killed each other. We then had to move and the single last guy died outside the zone??

Dont forget to turn this OFF asap when you get in game, inventory problems should be insta fixed.
No more -30% fps.

Best thing about the patch for me, that shit was infuriating. Overall a great patch but it's missing two things I really wanted, hold to ADS (apparently you can hack it in the config but it's buggy) and a reduction in certain audio effects so I don't go deaf (vehicles, red zones, rain, plane, parachuting).

Fix for AFKs and FPP matchmaking is going to make the game so much more fun to play, I can't wait.

Got the issue again last night where my FPS crashes into the low 30s on the rain map and is stuck there the whole game. Doesn't make a lot of sense because other games with the rain my FPS will actually be better than it is for other weather types. I'm typically 70-100 FPS or so with my settings in general. Something goes horribly wrong with the rain effect but only some of the time (maybe half of the rain games). Tried switching alt tabbing back to Windows and switching between full screen and windowed for whatever that's worth which didn't help. Next match (non-rain) is always totally fine without restarting the game.

What's this all about then?

The game renders the player model when you open inventory, this causes certain pc configurations to stutter heavily or even freeze for several seconds when opening the inventory which is pretty bad. Turning that character model off can help a lot.

Looks pretty good from what ive seen

20 round mag, 30 with extended

Very little recoil. So you can spam it like the M16

That sounds great lol

I'm probably more excited for the 'new' weapons than I am the upcoming maps. Last night my group had the *worst* luck finding gear. 4-5 games and only once did we all have 1 AR. The rest of the time it was shotguns and uzis, with the occasional AKM.
