PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Anyone seen players start moving spastically up and down when you attack them? I think it's a macro that is rapidly spamming crouch and stand. Seen it a couple times now. No idea if it gives the player an advantage (I did lose both times). I probably should have reported it.

Is it just me, or does this game need some sort of direction indicator for sound, or at the very least damage?

They are going for very realistic audio, which is very cool, but IRL you'd know where you heard a shot from (or at least general direction), and you'd certainly know if you were being shot in the left arm, the back, or your right arm.

Sometimes you get hit and between the 'ugh' from being shot, and maybe not having a 5.1 or 7.1 set up, you can't tell if its in front of you or behind you..

I think immersion vs. QoL, Im leaning towards the QoL improvement and having a small , non-invasive white circle apepar for gun shot noises, and a small red cirlcle indication damage. They would only be there for an instant, not permanently showing.

i would be against this. I find its part of the game to figure out where you are being shot from. and most of the time i can hide appropriately.

i just stroll through them now. havent been hit in 200 hours of gaming i doubt i will now.

You say that and then have your entire squad wiped out when your car gets hit, just after you wiped an enemy squad and got 4 silencers and sniper rifles... been there done that :p (never have all 4 members in the same car) :p

No you would not know where you are getting shot from IRL any more than you do in the game. And its not that hard to tell where shots are coming from unless they are silenced. It just takes some experience and knowing what to listen for.

The key is to NOT spin around crazily trying listen for the sound because that will confuse you a lot. You also need to know that being in doors or next to walls can impact where a gunshot sounds like its coming from. You should also not use the blood splatters to determine where a sound is coming from or the "whip/crack" of the bullet flying past you. Just listen for the sound of the gun being fired and you will get a general direction.

Edit: This is using a standard stereo headset (and yes, absolutely use a headset)

I'm continually amazed that people try to play with speakers, and more hilariously in this case, demand that the sound system be overhauled so that it'll work best on a 2.1 speaker setup. One of my friends is the only one who'll play without headphones and it's obvious. Everytime a shot goes off he'll usually call the opposite direction of where it happened and one of us other 3 guys has to correct him before it gets everyone else killed

It's great when I'm already dead and spectating him and I clearly hear a shot to his right and he whips to the left, starts running and gets shot some more

Nope, terrible idea 100%. This wouldn't be QoL this would remove a huge part of the skill curve.

My friends and I played ARMA a whole bunch so it was relatively easy to quickly determine direction.

Keep playing and learn the directions. No visual indicators are necessary to tell and it would upset the balance of the game greatly.

Headphones are pretty much required for this game. It's also already relatively easy to discern where shots are coming from.

They should absolutely not make it easier. Silently hunting your prey in this game is incredibly rewarding.

GOOD to VERY GOOD headphones are a requirement, it just seems like there is too much of a hindrance if playing on less than 'good' audio, or in a not perfectly dedicated to gaming environment. (Maybe its that half my matches I have my kids running around making noise and I can't hear well enough..and I can't wear headphones because I need to hear my kids...F'ing kids... lol)

I've won chicken dinners, and I feel like Im 'not bad' at the game, just sometimes its like "Where the F are you shooting me from".

And yes, silently stalking prey is awesome and its how I play, very stealthy, not a kill machine at all, hell I probably have more top 5 finishes than kills lol

edit - I actually think having a less than very good audio set up in this game is more of a disadvantage than playing with a controller, like its that important.

One of my favorite strats in duos is to drop for crater, but if there are others also dropping there we drop here(pictured) then camp the exit. Easy kills every time.

Definitely. I have fairly good headphones and play in a quiet room with the volume cranked decently. My duo partner is using a cheap gaming headset (and plays in his living room) and is constantly surprised at what I can hear when I tell him the exact location an enemy is based on shots / vehicles far away / footsteps a house nearby, he's just one step behind me in terms of awareness.

But I think the answer is to just get better headphones and at least attempt to be around a more quiet area when playing (obviously that's not as easy for some). If you make it easier, all you'll be doing is giving more advantage to the people with already good setups like myself, so it'll still be unbalanced. (I didn't mean that directly towards you, but just in general for anyone in that situation).

Any ideas why the Twitch Prime crate has decided to skyrocket in price? At $87 and considering I might finally sell it.

To top this off, most people who buy "surround" headphones are never, never listening in surround. Simulated surround is basically just stereo with some fancy stuff, but true surround headphones can be bought to really leverage real surround you need a powered adapter and some kind of amp or mixamp that supports it.

In my case, I have Astro A40 with the mixamp. Enabling surround does/did nothing but placebo and cost of ownership sure made me thing it was. One I realized I needed a powered/active Dolby Live adapter connected to the PC and the Amp, then had to configure the correct surround settings.. everything changed. Now when I click the surround button my mixamp I get the mother fucking real deal. The difference is like hearing things with cones over my ears for years and then someone taking them off. Most PC gamers I'd imagine have never experienced real surround headphone configurations, maybe more than most and probably most reading this sentence right now. Yes, even you 20+ year PC gamer who's bought "surround" headphones a few times already.

I feel like its borderline cheating in shooters, I can hear everything precisely. Literally every gaming friend I know who plays on PC and has for decades tells me, "Bro I have a surround headset too..." but when I ask how they setup their system they all say something like, "I plugged it in USB, the surrounds is built in..." ... nah my dudes, yall got fooled by some marketing words. When I try to explain how to configure real surround the get all uppity with me like I'm questioning their intelligence.

I've been gaming on PC since literally the 1980s. Not a single friend of mine of varying ages who has and still games on PC has real surround headphones. I'm assuming that most people out there, or even reading this don't either.. but I bet they sure think they're listening to surround.

the thing is, you dont need surround to be proficient at hearing enemies.

Huh? USB headphones can absolutely have surrond, as long as it's properly configured in the OS and game.

And the mixamp has Dolby Surround support (at least, the Pro does). You just need to make sure you're outputting 5.1 over optical to it.

Personally, I can't stand surround processing. Stereo has always sounded better to me and I've never had an issue determining sound direction through 15 years of playing CS.

I think a good guess would be rarity, as time goes on. None coming into the market anymore. Also, the random people opening some up occasionally. I'd suggest it'll keep going up slowly, because people are nuts with this stuff, but still, $87 is good enough as-is.

Stop showing off! /s

Seriously though yes. I'm on a 970, maxed.

Haha thanks! I was just worried that my CPU might be a bit out of date, especially if this is a CPU intensive game. I guess there's always the 2 hour refund available in case it performs like ass.

Thinking of jumping on the hype train soon

Is my rig up to snuff?

i7 3770 at stock
GTX 1070
16Gb RAM
SSD

i have a 3770k at stock, a 1070 and 8gb and an ssd(two in raid0) and its more than playable for me. FWIW, i still get stuttering and drops from time to time, but everyone gets them regardless of how beastly your comp is.

More and more cheaters are thankfully getting banned. Many aren't aware because it's almost impossible to tell in most situations due to how you get killed in this game, but cheating in PUBG is quite rampant. Hopefully they also find a way to ban people using macros like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N0TUR6xWO4
I swear there are some streamers out there using this.

I made top 10 in a solo with 4 kills just now and the more time I put into this game the more I realize it isn't about who is the better shot most of the time.

Rather it's mostly about who is better at predicting migration patterns and positioning lmao.

All 4 of my kills were attained because I was positioning myself in a way that I was pretty much on the tail end of the migration wave into the new circle. Which meant all but one of my kills were obtained because they were people who were just ahead of me. They either stopped to loot something and I got them, were just sprinting carelessly in front of me, or crossed my direction and stopped to investigate but died because I always knew where they were but they had no idea where i was.

The only outlier kill was the one where we both spotted each other and a gun fight broke out, but that was towards the end. Which leads me as to why I died, towards the end I decided that the best way to continue was to rush past where everyone might be and camp to where I thought everyone might be headed. Basically I put myself in the exact position the other people I killed were in. So naturally I died the same way lol.

I've definitely died to rapidfire M16/M4 taps from range. Most of my deaths are probably legitimate but that was one was odd.

I would like to see a kill cam implemented in this game. It would be a good way to learn from your mistakes and could potentially expose cheaters.

I use an autohotkey script to cancel leaning when I start sprinting. Is that considered cheating?

They are adding full replays. It'll be interesting to see how much better that are compared to the spectator camera. Hopefully they don't sufferer as badly and they will actually be useful and detailed enough to see what your killer saw. I'm sure it won't be perfect considering the way the game works but hopefully it's good enough.

Made it to top two, got killed due to bullshit. I was being shot at, but managed to make it behind a tree and was crouching, ready to heal. Then out of nowhere, the game caught up and registered my death :(

It's really not that hard to control recoil in this game, so I have a hard time thinking a lot of players with the sense and mechanics to get past the basic shooting will rely on a macro to deal with recoil. I wouldn't doubt it's a popular thing to do, I just wouldn't really be able to tell looking at footage and doubt anybody decent uses it. It's not something that can get you that far on its own.

I've had some things come up that are definitely fishy with different kinds of cheats though. I don't doubt there's a few different types of more traditional hacks out there. Shit's too popular.

I use an autohotkey script to cancel leaning when I start sprinting. Is that considered cheating?

This qualifies as cheating in most games, yeah.

Man these fkin house campers are so annoying in solo play. I let my guard down after I think i killed everyone in the town and then boom. Someone hiding in the fkin toilet.

Also how do you practice gun recoil most of the time i just panic on seeing someone in the house xD. Is burst fire much better in those situations? Every AR has different recoil right? Whats the easiest one to start out with.

Hmmmm I think if you die in duo and squads the game should kick you into the spectator cam right away.

I just won a duo because I died but I decided not to go into spectator cam and instead view the area around my body. So I was able to give my friend exact descriptions of where the last guy was as he was since he was very close to my body.

Get a gun, load up on all the ammo you can carry, then fuck off into the woods and just shoot about for awhile. All the guns have different recoil, but some of the guns in the same class with the same ammo type can be similar (5.56 ARs). A fully kitted M4 should be the easiest thing to control out of the ARs.

Really all you need to do is pull down though. The left/right stuff isn't like CS in some "set" pattern, it's just a random deviation afaik. On the test servers the left/right is a bit more normalized for things like the AK so it's even easier to control.

Again, that's AFAIK. I just pull down and correct when it drifts one way and I have no problem spraying people down. If there is some more predictable pattern like in CS, it can't be that far off from center.

Getting a compensator helps to reduce recoil a lot.

At that point you're viewing the game from the ghost of your player using the spirit realm to communicate to your teammate so your untimely death can be avenged.

Hah. I like it. Though if the final 2 had 1 person in a building, then he'd have even more of an advantage.

Speaking of the red zones, I've always avoided them like the plague. But I think I was watching Shroud yesterday and he seemed to hang around in one no problem. Never took any damage. So... red zones are really more like polite suggestions?

I was driving to the circle through a redzone and died because of it. That was the first time I died in a redzone in almost 200 hrs of play. So yeah, you can definitely get smoked in a redzone.

We have an inside joke in my group who plays PUBG that I get ambushed in closets and bathrooms so I became pretty good at checking corners. I usually set my guns to auto or burst in houses and hold down right click if i see someone.

I'm always skeptical when these kinds of numbers are thrown out. Ran into some dude today who was about as blatant as you could possibly be. Looked up his name and found a youtube clip from about a week ago with several comments of people saying they ran into the same person.

There might have been a disconnect since I was getting network latg last night.

Discord was working in a game a night or so ago, I then sat idle a little longer, and then disconnected. Since then the server vanished from my client, I've never been able to add the server in the client, or and I'm not even able to bring the invite link up in a web browser without an error, almost as if there's some sort of IP range block.

Quick question. How does armor damage work?

Lets say I pick up a level 2 Vest. 250 protection or whatever.

Then I take some fire and the vest now shows half red. 130 protection.

Does that mean that the damage reduction is at half? Or does that mean the durability of the vest is at half but it will still do the same damage reduction as it did when it was full durability?
