PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Yeah I woulda played another game maybe but dude is a machine lol.

It's also his job and he's making an absolute killing. It sucks to say but these guys are kind of forced to play PUBG right now if they want to maximize their money. Not long ago Summit was really enjoying Black Desert but every day he played it as his main game he was losing hundreds of viewers and he had to stop because it was costing him so much money.

I'm getting really into it and spending alot of time tweaking my Steam controller but the one big bug I have right now is the shooting sounds. I'm wearing headphones and anytime I'm getting shot the sound is from almost every direction I cannot comprehend why.

I hear gunshots all the time in the distance but when I'm being shot at it seems impossible for me to tell which direction it's from. Anybody else have the same problem?

Are you sure you aren't just confusing the sound of the bullets for the sound of the shots?

I mean it could be the bullets are so loud but even the whizzing past doesn't really give me an indication where it's coming from. It's the shots though because a couple of times I've circled round cover be ause no matter what edge I'm on I'm getting hit even though I'm positive I've moved away from the shots and instead ended up completely exposed.

Not like I'm using cheap headphones either, not sure if It's just my spacial awareness is shit.

Played my first match! Somehow didn't realize I was in third person mode, hadn't messed with the settings so the mouse speed was ludicrously low but I killed the first two guys I came across (they were *terrible*) and then died like an idiot while looting their bodies.

I guess I have to dial the graphics down too, it looks weird compared to how I'm used to seeing it on streams. Pretty lush though. ;)

Temp-banned for breaking one of the giant explicit rules as an easy way of sending a message.

Then the rules are silly - everything he did with bananaman was harmless fun. I could understand it a tiny bit if there were leaderboards but at the time that wasn't the case because FPP was still in beta.

In this specific case it doesn't really send any message other than "no fun allowed".

If you set a rule that says, "Teaming up / coordinating with other player(s) outside your team is legal as long as you feel you're being fair to other players," obviously anyone who does it will claim that they felt it was fair, and it's too vague. It throws off one of the game's main assumptions, which is the assumption that no players are coordinating outside of duos or squads.

Wtf shroud. I don't know anything about the getting banned but I thought shroud was at least decent. So much defense for "accidentally" saying the N word. That's some bullshit, it's like these streamers all live a daily struggle to not say that word and sympathise with it. When I get mad in the heat of the moment I just say normal curse words. I've never felt a need to say that word, ever. Then he wants to normalize that word by saying it's 2017? Shit. I knew Doc was a dick before already.

He did give a gun to him one time and told him to help, so he definitely used it as an advantage at least once.

But even if he didn't it's really not a big deal. He'll be back in no time and people who want to team in the future will be put off by the zero-tolerance policy.

Everyone knows it was a big joke. He had literally nothing else other than a UZI and they went there immediately afterwards and killed them themselves. Of course, it's not really a "big deal" eitherway. I don't agree with what is allowed to do in this game and what isn't as it affects a different side of fun you otherwise can naturally have in this game - a game which constitutes loads of spontanous decisions which are not always competitively driven.

That is a problem with the game at this current moment, though. In ranked I can understand getting a temp-ban for this but in a casual mode this should be absolutely allowed. But there is only one mode and that's ranked so you have no choice there. As it is, the rules are too rigid for how much play options you have.

"Being fair" is the wrong word because it's more about not ruining other people's game experience by using unfair advantages which never was shroud's intent and as a result didn't happen.

FWIW, PDB didnt say it in PUBG though. He was playing it yes, but it wasnt in the in game voice chat.

Its not PUBG's job to police what people say privately in Discord/Teamspeak/whatever, that would be a fucked up line to cross. You wanna get mad at someone not banning the little shit, get mad at Youtube/Twitch, it was their stream.

Shroud's ban is 100% fine. Its a short ban and sends a clear message without being obnoxious about it.

EDIT Sort of on the subject, I dont get Shroud's popularity. He was a sub par CSGO player in a below average team. And he isnt really a great streamer either. Sure he is pretty good at PUBG but he has the most boring, bland personality of any big streamer I have seen.

People know it's a joke, but rules never take that into consideration. Bluehole can't analyze each case and examine whether it has any comedic value or actually had an impact on other players. The same thing goes for people who are streaming while using cheats to move at ultra speed for fun, without actually killing anyone.

I thought it was fun to watch live, but hey, I can't blame them for sticking to their own rules.

Yeah and I blame them for the rules they set up especially in the current stage the game is in. And external cheat software is never the same thing as things you can do only with the official game software itself.

For the guy who thought his teammate was cheating with the mini-14, this is me with a 2x and extended quickdraw, no other attachements: https://streamable.com/pdp2e

Its just how that gun works, it has low recoil and snaps back on target with very little input, you just need to correct for the very small side to side recoil. And that was standing, crouched or prone there is even less recoil.

Now the mini-14 probably needs a nerf on its moving accuracy and recoil because right now its just a super effective allround murder machine, you can basically strafe and spam out bullets that will be on target.

Bonus triple kill (where i got the mini-14 from): https://streamable.com/q1241

The Mini-14 is great and all but the real gamechanger in the patch for me is the Tommy Gun as a world spawn. It's practically the perfect gun for hip fire: maximum automatic rate of fire plus widely available ammo plus a large clip. Guts vehicles too. It's like a mini-Groza.

Minor disappointment that my first FPP Solo win I fumbled the screenshot button and didn't realize, but 7 kills (half of those with a Mini-14 at the end) followed by killing the last guy with a Molotov is pretty good.

People watch him because he's really good at the game and they want to learn from him.

Doc might be more entertaining, but I wouldn't watch him knowing that he's not much better at the game than I am.
Got an 8 kill chicken dinner today, but my stats have refused to update for a while now. What gives?
I really liked it for the 2 rounds I played in it.

I can't play anything but FPP at this point, which sucks because we still do'nt have a server for that, so I just deal with the lag. But it's so much more fun.

Trying to find a better AA solution. The games FXAA has some very noticeable dithering, but the NVCP settings I was messing with weren't giving me the best results either.

Wait, people are defending teaming now if it's "in jest"? Get fucked. I don't want to go into a solo match and get teamed up because some cunt is streaming himself having a joke with his friends by being together in a clearly indicated solo queue. I want to go into a game expecting solo encounters, not people teaming and me having to second guess situations.

Having a laugh is the flimsiest defence you could have for his ban. He was an idiot and disobeyed the rules thus equalling a temp ban. Why should a streamer get treated differently because they are "having a laugh" when I'm trying to enjoy my game. Even in an unranked mode shit shouldn't be acceptable, you are going into a solo defined match intentionally teaming up to be "funny" and actively ruin my fun. Go into duos or squads and do that because at least there you expect backup on an enemy.

I'm using the internal scaler (120%). Works very well with the in-game AA, imo.

Yeah, I've got 16gig ram, a 1080 ftw, and a 3770k and was displeased with the framerate I got from this. It was mostly 60 but would chug to the 40s occasionally.

I have all my settings on ultra, but shadows set to medium. I found that using very low AA in game, 4x multisampling in the NVCP, and running at 2560 downscaled to 1080p looked very very good.. but it was still just every so slightly bumpy for me.

I suppose I could try to set another weird custom resolution like 2100 something and see if that eek by.

With the default settings the game runs at 90-144fps for me holding steady above 100 ~90% of the time so I kinda had got used to that.

I think I might just have to learn to ignore the dithering.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement with his ban. It's not like he's trying to team up with these people. They're stream snipers that follow him around without trying to kill him. And he doesn't kill them in return. I've never seen them actually help him, but it probably happens.

Either way, a temp ban is good and he'll probably just kill his stream snipers from now on.

From what I've seen of him, mostly in clips, he doesn't get mad, has really good strategy/playmaking, and looks to actually have fun with people.

I prefer watching Doc clips (I watch Giant Bomb if I want to see other people play games/don't like constant donation chatter) but Shroud is a million times better than someone like Ninja.

Oh geez, fog games really get my heart pumping in a way that the normal games haven't for a bit. The small bursts of gunfire that ring out as another kill goes up on the feed are way scarier when they come out of the fog!

The ambiance is crazy too. All those spooky wind groans make the last few sections really intense when there isn't any firing.

So I just got 5th in solos and I think I learned a set of very important lessons this match that helped me this far.

Houses are bad news
Once you have like 90 rounds a decent gun, a functional scope and a vest stop looting.

Basically I was thinking about every time I died in this game and most of the deaths I had happened while I was in a house. Either because I was just looting for my 300th 5.56 round, or because I was just like "oh man the perfect place to hold out".

These aren't smart decisions. If you're in the final 40 and you kill some one, 90% of the time you can just live off of their supplies until your next kill, that or you die. Unless you're some crazy hot shot who regularly gets like 15 kills per match you're realistically only going to need to prepare for like 3-4 fire fights in a game and honestly unless you're playing duos you can get away with having just 90 or 60 bullets for your main gun. Whenever you loot all you do is stare at the floor or spam the tab key and see what pops up, either way your awareness is limited, so my solution was to limit how much I loot and keep moving.

And if you think about it when you're running around just trying to get to the next spot what's the first thing you're most likely to free look at? Houses, shuffling around in a house has a huge chance of some random passerby just seeing you either moving around or opening and closing doors and they'll go investigate.

TL;DR - People are more likely to scope a house out from a distance, and if you're just in there stomping around looking for stuff you don't really need you run a high risk of being spotted by some guy who you have no idea is even watching you.

got two squad wins in a row tonight.

I just had someone maybe 200 meters distant walk out of behind a tree, stand still for a moment, and kill both my partner and I (with level 2+ helmets) with M16A4 headshots within maybe a second of each other. My partner and I were standing like 30 feet apart too. Super weird.

was an intense match even though I only got 1 kill but man was it good. Love this game

also new to Neogaf, not sure how to post a pic inline with the post?

You can use the little image looking icon at the top of the text box. Also putting the image in a quote allows it to be small and not take up the whole screen.

I give up on trying to show this with code bracket, I'm in Mobile.

I just saw yet another person doing the thing where they spam crouched / uncrouched positions like they're having a seizure, spinbot style. Ugh.
