Always good when you have the sights dead on a dude from 10m away and fire several shots into him and nothing.
Of course he then shoots you almost instantly.
This wasn't even a situation where something could have been blocking my shots, we were in the middle of an open area and he was pretty much right next to me, my red dot sight was dead centre on his chest and nothing

You were just lucky. I got a yellow item once but most crates are garbage, meaning you're almost guaranteed to exchange like $4 or $5 worth of crate + key for a $0.50 or less item.
Never open crates
Its not worth it at all
I made $30 from gamescon crates, and $20+ from the regular ones before the prices fell so drastically
Im now stock piling the ones you get with BP so when the game is out of EA and the prices of the crates jump again, I can make more money
EDIT:
Two games in a row ive been taking shots at people, only for them to turn around and 4 shot head shot me in one burst with a UMP from 60+ meters away

Gaaaaaahhh, I just completely blew a Top 10 when I looted a Groza from a crate that nobody dared to go for (since it was right outside a compound on the edge)... and I got it, but I was so full up on ammo and shuffling stuff around that I didn't realize I hadn't put my red dot on it. Guess what popped up right around the corner the exact instant I reflexively opened my inventory to equip a sight.

It just depends on where and when the circle is. Like early game I'll venture more towards the centre, but by the 3rd/4th circle I want to be playing the edge.
I've only won one chicken dinner by sitting in the middle of the first circle after I'd looted up, which was just west of the school on the hills, then the last circle ended up literally 10 metres from where I was camping/sniping. A mix of SKS slaying and RNGesus blessing me for a change...
Dove for Shelter bunkers, but it was a fog match and I couldn't find them. Spotted a UAZ but someone else was closer, so I ran for only cover- a shack. He tried to run me down but I evaded inside, then hopped in the UAZ with him!
He took off with me along for the ride, neither of us with any weapons. Eventually he slowed to a stop, but I didn't take the bait. We took a couple potshots as we cruised around for several minutes; I thought we would run out of gas. We ended up on the power plant cliffs as my foe's final plan took shape.
He attempted to park it on the edge of the cliff, hop out, and I would roll into the sea trying to take over the vehicle. So I let him- because I knew about the UAZ's godly traction. Swapped over, threw it in reverse, and crept back up to safety.
Then I drove over him.

I won a game with a silenced Tommy Gun. Kept finding Scars and M416s on the people I killed but said "nope, this is the Tommy Gun round.
Sucks that you can't put a sight on it, but at close range it's a beast.

The prices aren't gonna go back up. There are 160,000 Gamescom crates on the market compared to less than 7,000 keys.
