PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Gamescom crates are steadily increasing in value as the supply goes down. Almost up to $3 now and barely 100k sellers now. There were 150k+ sellers not long ago.

My game is a few $ short of already paying for itself just from selling the generic crates.

I bought the yellow+ white jacket and the camo hotpants for under 1€ each... Yes, this game is paying for itself.

Or he just didn't want the AWM, but decided to fuck the guy who got to the crate next.

Smart
None of those kills was due to the AWP being any sort of i-win button. The AWM doesn't even oneshot to the body if you have lvl 1 armor and full health. Its main power is oneshotting through lvl 2 and lvl 3 helmets.

Which is pretty insane considering you get a generous amount of ammo. Earlier before that clip I did in fact one hit knock someone with said helmet.

I thought it was bigger than the current one, or is that just a myth?

think that's a myth. The playable area should still be larger on the new map as it doesn't have any water.

My game is a few $ short of already paying for itself just from selling the generic crates. I could sell my 9 Gamescom crates now and turn a profit but I may as well sit on them. Also could have made more $ off the generic crates if I had been allowed to sell them sooner but I had to wait the 30 days because I'd never made a Steam purchase before, and then I had to wait another couple weeks because I didn't have the mobile authenticator set up yet, and those crates lose value every week. Still, never actually made $ playing a game, though I've been out of the PC scene for quite a while until PUBG came along.

ppl buy the regular crates what?

It would be if IT FUCKING WORKED. It just stopped working all the sudden for me out of the blue. Highlights enabled in Experience and in-game. Instant replay is on as well but not even that works. Stupid Shadowplay piece of shit.

May have to try reinstalling it because I keep having cool moments ruined by not being able to record them.
It stopped working for me when instant replay was turned on, I had to turn it off for it to reappear in the graphic settings.

Just experiance the purest running simulator aspect of PUBG. Started west, circle was north thought that's fine, long stretch of road about 2000km between us. Was getting chased by circle but had good leeway. Not one fucking car spawn the entire stretch. The RNG gods well and truely fucked us. Never had that happen before. 2KM of road and zero cars.

Can they update at at time that isn't 10:30 EST

GOD DAMMIT
They need an ingame way to announce on the main menu MAINTENANCE WILL BE AT XYZ TIME. They put Twitch stuff on the main menu, they can do it.

They also need to patch when it's not peak NA time, though maybe they care more about China if there are more Chinese players.

Lastly I have only used Unreal Engine 4 a bit, and I understand there are complicated issues. I understand it may be difficult to avoid a 450MB patch that only makes a couple of small bugfixes. I understand networking code is difficult to fix. I understand adding some sort of 4-byte non-resetting state in the same location as your settings, to track the last mode you selected may be more difficult than it sounds. I have been a programmer and developed both non-game and game software for many years. I sympathize.

What I -really- wish I understood, and wish some developer from the company would come out and explain some day, is what is causing the AS-server default and how it is so difficult to fix. It boggles my mind to even imagine what sort of UI / state / steam / whatever bug could cause that, affect every single NA player, and yet not be fixable in a 1-2 week period.

PUBG doesn't revolve around NA anymore, dude.

Valve used to (still does?) do Steam server maintenance at 5:30 EST Tuesdays (which I assume is close to the NA peak) because that's when they saw the least users online worldwide.

I can't find it now, but I remember a source saying that 30% of PUBG players were from China, compared to 15% from the US. That alone is justification enough to put the patch during quiet AS hours.

Edit:

The server maintenance occurs during the hours when there are the least number of people playing.

Not only that but they do have an in-game pop up announcing server maintenance...granted it's usually a couple hours before it goes down.

That's why I said the part you didn't bold, "though maybe they care more about China if there are more Chinese players."

In other words, they care more about lower total number of players, e.g. the Chinese players, rather than NA in general. :p

Huh, I've never seen that.

I retract that then and just keep the comment that I really want to know what technically is making the AS default so difficult to fix.

Getting a weird bug where I can't hear any chat.

Have all the settings set right but nothing

Not too much of an issue because I normally squad using Discord but there have been a couple of times where people have given their positions away to the rest of my squad when they left their mics on and I heard nothing.

I'm still doing my crossbow quest to prove it's possible to kill someone with it.

Crosshair dead center, standing still, 20 feet away from a prone person? No damage. :/ The hitbox must be really tiny.

First chicken dinner in 6 days yesterday, I needed that. Was getting hungry.

Playing sneks in the grass with 3 remaining, found the last two guys when one stood up and ran to cover causing the other guy to shoot at him. Knew both their positions and took them out quite comfortably.

Suppressed mini14 with 4x is insane.

I never manage to get chicken dinner in solo FPP (only mode I play) even though I get so close because I don't know how to compete with the people that stay out of the last two circles when it's about 5 of us left. They stay out so much longer than me, but I also bandage, energy drink up etc but I don't know how they manage it. My health ticks down so quick, they kill me from outside of the circle when I am forced to move in, and for a good 10-15s more they are still outside the circle then moving in, even though they've been outside of it prior to killing me for a good deal of time already. I often play out of the circle but I just can't manage it when it comes to the last two. Does circle damage ignore armour or not because I am not sure on this, the only thing I can think of is them having maybe a lv. 3 helmet vs my lv. 2 or whatever.

This is very frustrating late game, suffered from it myself a couple of times.

One thing I think Fortnite does better is that you can't see fucking shit through the circle, vastly reducing circle tanking.

Full boost vs partial boost is a huge difference so you can't just take one energy drink or painkiller you need to hit the last little pip of boost and you regenerate health a lot faster but they are definitely not outside the last 2 circles for 15+ seconds. But its important to know that the damage only increases when the shrinking blue hits the white.

Circle 7
Length - 90m
Damage - 7%
Survive for - 0:15
Travel time - 0:30

Circle 8
Length - 40m
Damage - 11%
Survive for - 0:10
Travel time - ~

Stats for the last two circles from this: https://www.reddit.com/r/PUBATTLEGR..._breakdown_times_damage_travel_time_and_tips/

which is two months old so might have changed a bit but probably not.

Bet the default server is still AS though!
That's why I said I really wish I knew what technical reason is causing it.

I thought they might just be avoiding a patch to fix it because it's 400+ MB purely to change a GUI bug. But now they've done the patch AND not fixed it, and it affects every single NA player.

I suppose one of the only explanations left is that the majority of players are Chinese as referenced earlier, and therefore only a minority of players are affected by the behavior, and it's easier to just make it correct for most players than make the GUI work for everyone.

BUT WHY highlighting a menu option is technically complex is what I want to know. I'm a programmer and I've worked with UDK/UE4 and I'm still at a loss as to what makes this so hard.

It affects everyone. Not just NA.
Technically, I didn't say it DIDN'T affect non-NA players, I just said that it affected every single NA player. :D

Non-technically, you are correct that it also affects other non-US, non-China regions. My point is that if China is the largest region, the AS server is correct for the largest single blob of players, and that's the only reasonable theory I can come up with as to why they would leave it this way through a patch.

Yeah, but who cares about everyone? USA is all that matters.

The bug is weird for me though, solo play always defaults me to AS TPP, but duo stays EU FPP even after I disband the team and reinvite the guy a few days later.
