PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Did they even officially announce "PUBG coming to XBO and PS4!" yet? I know PU mentioned it's something they are interested in doing in future.
I mean, I haven't heard anything about it and yet the people that bring it up make it sound like a sure fire deal. Thus I just wanted to post about by skepticism.

From Kotaku:

There is something called ‘Game Preview' on Xbox One. It's like Early Access for Xbox. We have the game running on that and are in process of polishing it. For the release, we'll both release it on PlayStation and Xbox.

yeah he is using a HDD for the game, as do all of my friends playing the game. He's the only one with those issues though.

I bet if he checks his disk usage when it occurs the usage is sat at 100%? This is the issue my friends are having.

Anyone actually use the boats effectively?

If you want to be really cheesy, and the plane drops you off on the North-East side, you can use the boats to get to the starting island. You can't find anything but guns there, but there are a lot of them, because people don't generally explore the full island to pick up all the guns.

There is guns, armor, meds and weapon attachments there. Not just guns.

Any time the circle ends up over the military base and you have to cross a bridge. We use them then, because fuck squads camping the bridges trying to be Lirik fanboys (I know people have been doing this before Lirik :p).

But yeah, fuck bridge campers.

I can't figure out where anything is coming from with stereo speakers. I can't easily use headphones as it cuts too much out in the house

I see the point about visual indicators I guess, it's just frustrating not being able to locate basic direction of fire

Headphone dont help a terrible amount i find, i hope they do some more on the audio for this game as it is total off at the moment

I also hope, they force high grass to always be displayed, even if there are just one colored textures. It's sad, that you can't hide in grass, since you don't know, if your opponent has lowered his graphical settings.
They've already fixed this.

I know about this map.

I have a 20% off voucher in my email that expires today for it. Was considering purchasing it, but I really can't justify the price of the game, even discounted to $24. Do you want it?

Is it a voucher only for Battlegrounds or does it work for Cod: WWII?

First time finding a Vector last night but didn't get to use it. Does it compare to the UMP?

With an extended mag it is probably the best close range weapon in the game short of sneaking up behind somebody and hitting them over the head with a frying pan. Very high RoF, very little spread under, oh, say, 10-15m.

The UMP on the other hand seems to have more range and after the blanket assault rifle nerf is a viable replacement for close/medium range. I like running UMP+Kar98/SKS/AKM. Seems a lot easier to get an SMG suppressor than an AR suppressor as well. Allows for stealthy close/midrange play while still being able to pop heads at a distance with your sniping weapon.

Came 2nd - best result ever for me. Was on the back foot all along with only a pistol, no backpack and outside of the circle from the start. Managed to find be a buggy which I parked up just inside the circle and hid nearby. Someone came along and I killed them, and they had some decent gear. Last couple of circles were focused on a cornfield with just hay bales for cover. Last circle I was outside so had to run for it but the other guy had a rifle. Was a rush.

What was the fix? is there a set distance for grass now?

Yes. Lets you have a pretty good gauge for whether or not the grass is helping hide you at a distance as well.

Keep in mind that smoke grenade smoke also renders at the same distance as grass, if you intend to use them for cover.

For a game like this that's good to know

Also bushes are a good place to hide, but just know you aren't 100% covered in them.

We were at a couple houses yesterday and started getting shot at, we finally found the guy who was hiding in a bush and killed him. He just got downed so we assumed he had a friend nearby, but couldn't find him. My buddy went to go loot the guy we killed eventually, but his remaining teammate was hiding in a big bush right next to him the entire time and nailed my friend before we could kill him lol

Welp, bought the game today and I've been playing for 3 hours. Won both a solo and duo so far! Liking this game a lot. Much better than H1Z1. And performance is great.

Bought the game yesterday and I just made it to #2 on solo. So close! There was just the three of us and had one of them on my sights, not shooting in order not to give away my position to the third man. The number of people left alive was flashing red though (?), so I assumed it could mean the third guy may have been knocked out and about to die, and just in case and before the guy I was aiming at decided to move I killed him. Offed him but it wasn't the best decision for the expected reasons.

On solo if you lose all your HP, you die instantly. There is no knockout period because there is no one to revive you.

I don't know why it would be flashing red though.

For you.
Considering picking up this game, but having a hard time justifying the cost (as I am a dirty, filthy poor). I know money can be made by selling cosmetic items, and I've seen some mention of people recouping the cost of purchasing the game. I'm assuming that would require some serious time commitment and/or serious skills, though, am I correct? I've never played a game in this new-ish genre before, and I'm pretty rusty on shooters in general, so I'm assuming I'll be terrible.
Honestly I think it will be easy enough to recoup the cost of the game. I played it for 8 hours and already got a jacket that sold for 5$. Crates are easy enough to get, and while of course the results are entirely luck based, of you get crates when new items are introduced, even the most common drops from it should get you a dollar in the first couple of days of that crate. And if you have friends interested on playing the game but don't have it, you can family share with them and ask them to send the items they get back to you as a sort of fee, which will make the recouping of the money faster still.

I think it does that whenever you're in the top 5.

I've played over 200 hours and I've never gotten anything over $2. I really wouldn't get this game expecting to make up the costs with the crate system.

From my experience with basically every other major game with steam market economy, at the very least you will be able to make a couple of dollars when new items/crates are introduced if you get in the first day.

How do you land in a parachute faster? I see people zooming by all the time. I'm sure holding the key doesn't help.

If you hit min open altitude at maximum freefall speed (234 km/h) you'll make it half way through the parachute distance before your chute full opens (233 km/h will get you ~20% of the way through the fall, 232 km/h will get you 5% of the fall, and anything else below that will open the chute right at the ceiling).

Consequently it's almost always better to fall toward your target at the flatest horizontal line until your 40-30m away then nosedive (at least until you get a good feel for how much altitude you'll need to get to 234).

TIL: You can die from fall damage exiting out of a speeder boat that is shored on a beach. How embarrassing, #6, dead from exiting a boat.

Loving the game but man, it really sucks when you randomly get popped and die instantly without any idea where or what hit you.

I wish the time to death was just a tiny bit longer so you have a sort of "oh shit there is something over this way - DEAD" type experience instead of just "DEAD"

The biggest lesson i had to learn was to be patient and wait until you can actually kill your target instead of just shooting at it and hoping you win the firefight.

Well, patience in general.

So I finally picked this up after seeing all the Giant Bomb streams.

Just finished my first 2 solo games and my god is this game tense! I think its just the sound design- namely, most of the game is pretty damn quiet. Just you rummaging around and running around the environments punctuated by the crack of gunfire and explosions right in your face.

Seems super fun but this is definitely not the type of game I'll be able to play to unwind before bed.

I placed 5th on my third match! Rushing to the center of the white area and hunkering down in a safe spot really helped me. In the end I played it sloppy, because I was chatting with a girl and didn't want to leave her waiting for my reply.
