PlayStation 5 [OT] Taking Over The World One SSD At A Time

Got my PS5 Disk Version yesterday and I´m amazed at the generational leap. The almost non-existing loading times alone are worth the 399/499 price tag for me. This whole thing feels like a seamless experience.

And then comes the controller. I guess people were right when they said "you have to experience it for yourself". Astro Bot is a great tech demo and I really hope that at least SONYS first-party developers will use it extensively to its full capabilities.

I got Miles Morales as the first real PS5 game at I love it. It looks sooo crisp and the option to run it in 60FPS with Ray tracing is mind-blowing. I hope this will become the gold standard in the coming years. I played Control and the trade of between 30FPS + Ray Tracing against 60 FPS without RT is just too much. No way you are going back to 30FPS once you experienced the smoothness of 60FPS.

Congrats on the new console.

Yeah, Miles is awesome. It was the first game I played after Astro's Playroom, and both Astro's and MM are easy Plat trophies if you are into that.

Insomniac knocked it out the park with the three visual modes. The mode I prefer tends to change game to game. In Control UE, I have to play in Performance, he 30fps/RT mode just feels too sluggish, but in SM:R and MM the 30fps/RT Fidelity Mode feels great to me, and looks amazing. Looks next-gen, IMO. Performance Mode and Performance RT Mode still look amazing too, though. No bad choice. All winners.

Astro's Playroom and MM/SM:R are probably the best "DualSense games" I have played yet. I hope more games take full advantage of it like Astro's does, in particular.

(all just my opinions, of course)

Anyone had this on their PS5?? :( PS5 DE

I googled round not much info except try a reinstall. I was mid game and just on the final arc of the game after the last borough. So it's left a shitty taste tbh. Uploaded my save to the cloud manually just in case. Just curious as to whether anyone had success with a reinstall? Or is it just fucked.

I'd be more worried about why the data got corrupted than having to re-download it. Hopefully it's due to bad game code and not a faulty SSD.

There was a thread from a week ago, or maybe two weeks, where someone regarding the OP's PS5 always giving him corrupted data errors. I feel really fortunate that it hasn't been an issue for me. It is something I really hope is just ironed out in an OS update.

Doesn't seem to be a widespread issue, wonder if there is something in the users' setup causing it? Who knows, I can only speculate....

Livid. Tried logging a support case with Ubisoft, who are only accepting live chat during covid (which is unavailable), so asked on their forums. I can't export the savefile because PS5 doesn't allow you to - only upload to the cloud. What an absolute joke all round.

Alright guys I'm about to start God of War, will be playing on the ps5 on an x900h. What do you guys suggest for the brightness and contrast to get the best picture? I'm referring to the in-game settings that it asks you to adjust when you first start it up. Default is 50 each but I imagine these should be tweaked?

Looking forward to playing it!

On my setup I went with 55 brightness, 35 contrast (in game settings). Tested a bunch of different combos and that is what gave me the best picture, for my eyes anyway. Game looks so gorgeous.

Of course, this probably varies set to set, calibration to calibration, so maybe won't work well for you. I also turn film grain all the way off, but I just do that for every game (I don't like film grain, or chromatic aberration, in any game)

Enjoy the game, it is amazing.

You should clip the blacks and whites in the HDR adjustment, watch this:

I wasn't happy with the HDR until I followed his advice. Works with every TV, indeed. Also HDR implementations is different as some games have shitty HDR, but 1st party games always nail it. AC Valhalla has a wonderful HDR as well.

How is Godfall? Seen your screenshots. Would you recommend it for that $70 price?

Control isn't as responsive in it's 30fps when compared to the 30fps Fidelity option in Miles Morales. But yeah the Performance RT option in miles morales is godsend. Control's 60fps option is the way to go!

Waiting for Sony to announce PS5 internal compatible SSDs is like waiting for Nvidia to restock 3080 GPUs :(

Do you have a fast internet connection? If so, then you don't really need any extra storage. Downloading the game again takes 11-35min while playing something for 200Mbps, so 1Gbps would be 5x faster!

True, the downloads are blazing fast on PS5.

I do have a good internet connection, speed wise, but my problem is the data cap. I am stuck with Comcast/Xfinity, literally no other high speed provider in my area, and they have a 1.2 TB monthly data cap. That might sound like a decent amount, on paper, but it goes surprisingly fast.

So, with that, I tend to try to hoard as many games as I can before uninstalling.

Hopefully one day in the not too distant future we won't need to worry about data caps

I pity anyone having to be stuck with Comcast in the US. Or data caps in general, it's so third world country. 500Mbps, no caps ofc here, but if I could download a PS5 console, it might actually help.

Yeah, it's straight up bullshit, honestly.

Back in the summer I upgraded my PC, new MOBO/CPU combo, and I did a fresh Windows install. Redownloading my Steam and PC Game Pass library alone ended up leaving me with a 200 dollar data overage fee on that monthly bill.

As for finding a PS5, have faith. Restocks are coming.

We have data caps on 4G/5G internet, but not on Fiber nor ADSL. With movie streaming, general usage at high quality it can be tricky to not pass that cap.

Fair enough, hope that means you resell them or you have a collector habit of revisiting them in the future.

I used that video as well for the PS4. Still waiting on the PS5.

One video I did not agree with him on, was to have the Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ALD) set to Medium instead of High on the X90. I'm sorry, but those deep inky blacks for an LED are far too scrumptious to give up for a virtually unperceivable "accuracy." I keep everything else off for SDR content (even X-tended Dynamic Range) on the TV but that one setting to High. For HDR I let it run (Auto) its max brightness/contrast and HIgh/High for Advanced Contrast Enhancer and X-tended Dynamic Range.

The video I found odd since he was always a proponent of not chasing equipment measurements too much because they are usually software read controlled environment and don't tell the whole tale. In this instance, the black levels and blooming make a major difference between the two settings in person. Deeper blacks and much less blooming on very dark sections while on High.

There's something weird about the handling in Control's 30fps mode.

The 30fps mode in Control makes Miles/SMR's 30fps mode feel like 60fps. In Control's 30fps mode, on my setup anyway, trying to aim feels like there is an anchor tied to the camera and I am just sluggishly swinging it around.

I enjoy the 30 fps mode in Miles and SMR, but I went 60 performance mode in Control all the way thru the plat.

Wow, gotta check this out.. The HDR (and the colors/image in general) in AC Valhalla looks super washed out and just strange for me on PS5 with my LG C8 OLED. Maybe his tips will help then!

I had the same issue with Valhalla. It is the only game on my PS5 that doesn't look great in HDR. I found numerous posts regarding the issue on Reddit, people saying the same thing. I was never able to get it to look right in HDR.

Can anyone who owned the Gold, Platinum, and Pulse 3D share their thoughts on how the Pulse 3D compare to the first two?

I liked my Golds, but I loved my Plat headset. Haven't had a chance to try out the Pulse yet

I had the Golds that i used on my PS4 Pro. Sound quality was great but i had frequent sound drops until i disabled the 2G WIFI band on my router and only used 5G.

The Pulses work great and the sound quality is fantastic and i have both bands enabled on my router again and haven't had audio drops.

Yeah, after playing Demon's Souls it looked like a joke. The only other game that looks as bad in HDR is Immortals: Fenyx Rising... I'm sensing a connection here 😅

Anyway I will try the tips in the video later today!

I love the pulse3d. But I never owned gold or plat. Peopla say that it's a straight plat upgrade.

Hey could you share your thoughts on how Pulse 3D sounds when playing Demon's Souls remake, Miles Morales and Warzone. How does it sound with 3D audio on vs off, how does it sound when watching youtube videos/spotify etc.

Demons Souls and Maiden sound just fantastic. Kinda difficult to say if it's thanks to headphones or great sound design but it is bonkers really.
With 3d on, You can hear everything in environment, all directions and locations of each sound. Everything is clear. When you parry or break a barrel etc, the bass thump is really impressive too. I've seen some opinions that this has no bass and it's absolutely not true. It's just not overbearing and covering whole audio spectrum. It sounds like bass on better headphones and not garbage...
Without 3d, it still sounds good. Maybe a bit less bassy and a bit more stereo but I've not tested much without 3d. Generally, Demons Souls is a highlight. generally, I found that even without 3d, the pulse directional audio is better than average I've heard before.

Miles Morales and Warzone I don't play, sorry. But I used microphone on pc a bit (wireless) and people say I sound good. A bit muffled but fine and understandable. The headset has voice monitoring so you can very quietly hear what You are saying. helpful.

Most I've used it so far is on pc. For youtube and movies, I notice good sounds separation and wide directional precision. It's not extremely bassy headphone. It has the capability but it is used like rest of the sound, where it needs to be used.
Generally, I enjoy it a lot. Comfort is good and steelseries pro did not fit my head week before when I tried. I also though steelseries sound was good and crips but had less bass than sony.
Music sounds great. No compalints. No harsh sibilant highs like on takstar pro82.
There is no static and generally it seems to work as intended on pc and ps5. I am hearing sounds in music I've not noticed before but it's probably a new headphone effect :p

Sorry, I don't want to overhype it. I just set my expectations lower because some mixed opinions but I am absolutely blown away :p Important to note - It's my first wireless headset. I was expecting it to sound worse than takstar pro82 and koss porta pro but it does not sound audibly worse. Maybe just different in some ways.
edit: Volume is ok. I use 3 clicks below max volume but with some stuff (like some movies I've checked out), I needed to crank almost to max since these are mastered lower. If You have bad hearing, it might be too low sometimes maybe.
I also dread connecting porta pro back again since I don't want to break the illusion and realize that it sounds better than sony :p But I want to do 1 final comparison before disconnecting fiio e10k. I dont need it anymore

Keep the in-game adjustment on default. While mine is 500-nits, I kept it at 800-nits as when pushed to 500-nits in-game it looked too dark and inaccurate.

Input lag is terrible and unbearable in Control at 30fps. It's just this game. I've finished Spider-man MM in Fidelity mode with zero issues.

FrankWza FrankWza has all of them, and says that PS Platinum is much superior in audio quality. I have Pulse 3D and very happy with it, with WD:L having one of the best audio feel. Most people say that the best 3D audio implementation is in Demon's Souls though. When you shift to 7.1 Channel it's just extremely inferior.

Yes I remember reading on youtube from some reviewers that they aren't happy with the Bass level in pulse 3D. Glad to hear that's not the case for you. I can't wait to get my hands on it, err more like my ears on it :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Is it worth purchasing, main thing for me is it having bluetooth connectivity for phone / PC at the same time.

Heard they are decent though

I have yet to find a set and leave calibration for PS5. My bluray and appletv settings are more consistent. games sometimes have their own hdr too which causes issues.
And tone mapping on vs HGIG might make a difference too. Try both. Sometimes hgig sets the overall brightness too low and then you have to compensate and that can give you that washed out look.

So I did some more A:B with my fav koss porta pro (considered bassy headphone) and they sound nearly identical.
Sony has more low end which you can feel and is a tiny bit clearer. This is excellent as Koss is an endgame headphone really.
Rtings kinda confirm my listening. Similar sound profile. But I do hear a bit more bass than porta. Their dsp ears setup for measuring must not take the sealing too well into account maybe

This would be my first AC game since AC3 back in 2012. Skipped AC entirely since then. Thanks to the 60fps PS5 version, I am definitely going to get AC Valhalla soon!

At the moment, data caps on wired connections are forbidden by the government here in Brazil, which is a true blessing considering how much we already pay just to live here. Internet is my extra storage right now.

Nope .. 😕 Tried his tips and no matter what I do, the game looks horrible with HDR enabled for me. Other games look great though!

The colors look bland and washed out, and just overall strange. Like, not underexposed but as if the brightness is just too low and without much contrast.

When I turn HDR off in the PS5 system menu, the game looks sooo much better on my TV. Extremely frustrating!

Allright, will try! I'm not sure what HGIG is or if my TV has it but I always leave dynamic tone mapping off so I guess I could give it a go.

Maybe it's a different story from a tv to another. I'm using my old 2016 4K HDR X70D though.

Let me know if you find a fix for your setup. I would love to enjoy the game in HDR.

Again, literally EVERY other game on PS5 looks awesome on my TV, I don't know why my TV doesn't seem to play nice with Valhalla...

Can someone explain to me how launching PS4 retail games with next-gen patches work? You have to insert the PS4 disc and manually download the PS5 game from the store?? The PS5 version isn't downloaded & installed automatically?
