PlayStation 5 Pro Could Be the Best Place to Play Multiplatform Games With Bad PC Ports; There Will Be No Reason to Use FSR Over PSSR

The PlayStation 5 Pro could be the best place to play multiplatform games with bad PC ports that suffer from a variety of issues, including bad image quality with certain upscalers and stuttering issues.
Speaking during the latest episode of their weekly podcast, the tech experts at Digital Foundry commented on the soon-to-be-released mid-generation refresh hardware from Sony, highlighting how the system could be a sort of "nuclear option" to enjoy multiplatform games with bad PC ports thanks to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler which will likely be used over AMD FSR in the vast majority of games, as performance concerns could be the only reason developers may continue to go for AMD's upscaler over the AI-powered one making its debut with the PlayStation 5 Pro in certain scenarios, such as for 120 Hz modes. Considering how games with PSO stutters on PC already tend to run smoother on consoles, playing multiplatform games whose PC ports suffer from this issue on the PlayStation 5 Pro could be the way to go, especially if performance holds up, as it seems more and more like PSSR will be able to deliver great image quality in the vast majority of games.

Alex makes a good point that Sony would probably be able to promote the Pro better if they could highlight the differences between FSR and PSSR. Obviously, AMD would object to that though so for the purposes of keeping good corporate relations, that's probably why Sony doesn't.

Great, you just attacked Xerxes. The PS5 bros better resdy themselves for their “ This is Sparta” moment.

One day history will show, where and when the first volley of World War III was. We are apart of history folks.

Let’s see how this plays out.

Yes that's like what? 5% of multiplatform PC ports these days? Maybe 10% if pushing it and mainly focused on AAA games?

Of course also depends on your personal PC set-up. Anything not rocking at Pro-equivalent settings...well of course the Pro would be the better place for those games. IF performance is the main or only metric a person cares for, and they NEED Pro-level performance to be satisfied.

I don't think that subset of PC gamers is very large, however. Steam GPU survey charts prove that to a large extent.

It kind of goes without saying though.

When a PC port suffers from issues/isn't optimal the next step is obviously going to be the most powerful console.

What he is saying is its the house of bad ports.....and that is 100% correct.
He's also not satisfied with the notion of people rewarding those devs by purchasing PS5 versions of games not running well on PC.

At launch for a few games, maybe. Good think patches and non fucked PC versions exists, in abundance.
Problem is nothing's going to change with this kind of general PCMR attitude we see around here.

Alex: It would be great if there was more audience anger. [about PC ports]

John: We don't need more anger today, Alex.

Alex: Consumers could make it really well known that is not acceptable to release PC games the way that they are released.

I'm no big fan of Alex, I think his level of disingenuity is at times borderline unacceptable for a figure in his position, but at least he cares about PC gaming.
And I mean, he really cares. He's not just using PC as a way to feel better about himself or compensate for something, he genuinely wants it to have perfect versions of games and does all he can to make sure those issues are brought to attention, a necessary step for them to be fixed.

All the "Runs fine on my rig though" "Haven't noticed any stutter" "Just upgrade bro" "Trust me it's the same on Console" likely piss him off more than anything PlayStation could ever do.
And it's just on GAF and very few other places, Steam, Reddit, and Devs own Support Forums are always filled with people complaining about those issues and for basically every game including those deemed as good ports like Spider-Man.

Hmm, most of the PC community use DLSS from Nvidia tho, don't they?

AMD is there so the market regulations can't say there is a Monopoly 😂

Massive FOMO from console warriors will definitively not change anything.
One of my least favorite aspects of Alex Battaglia, being such a console warrior with massive FOMO..

What effectively, truly won't change anything is what you happen to do in every single post of your GAF history. And afterall, according to those same posts there's also nothing to change anyway so it's all good.

You're actually celebrating that PlayStation 5 Pro might be able to play botched PC ports better? Congrats, I guess. You’re basically admitting consoles are just a safety net for developers who can't optimize their games properly.

Oh and dont get me started about your precious PSSR (which, let’s be honest, is just Sony trying to slap a shiny name on what’s already standard on PC).

If you need a console to compensate for lazy developers making bad PC ports, by all means, enjoy your overpriced box.

And please stop asking for a pro mode in EVERY thread. Nothing says "next-gen" like forcing developers to waste time optimizing their games for yet another slightly upgraded console. Instead of focusing on innovation or fixing core gameplay issues, now devs have to split their resources making sure their game works on multiple iterations of the same console. All so the PS5 Pro crowd can feel special for a hot minute.

Oh God here we go. It's an off the cuff, throwaway remark even if a shitty site latches into it and tries to make a story.
Seems to happen often with wccftech.

The idea of playing on a cheaper hardware than mine that I can also borrow/resell games give me massive FOMO, sure.
I was referring to constantly living with the need of upgrading.
Guess what's the driving force behind that?

But as always with you, whatever.

Eh, given I could probably buy you along with your whole house, if FOMO really was thing for me as it is for you I would be posting from a render farm right now.

And would probably still have to deal with issues, also in part because of people like you.
The idea of playing on a cheaper/extremely more limited hardware than mine that I can also borrow/resell games give me massive FOMO, sure.
