PlayStation Blog: PlayStation 4 Turns One

PlayStation 4 Turns One

It’s hard to believe that 12 short months ago, the PlayStation Nation finally got their hands on the most powerful and socially connected gaming platform ever created. With blockbuster games from our Worldwide Studios like inFAMOUS Second Son, MLB 14 The Show, Killzone Shadow Fall, The Last of Us Remastered and new innovative features like Share Play and SHAREfactory, PS4 has had an unprecedented first year!

In honor of PS4’s one year anniversary, we’ve created an infographic highlighting some of the unforgettable milestones. It goes with saying that this is made possible by you, and we continue to be humbled by your passion.

I should also mention that we’re not only celebrating PS4’s first birthday, but also a significant milestone for our brand as we near the 20th anniversary of the original PlayStation on December 3rd. In the weeks leading up to this special day, I’m happy to announce that we have a series of blog posts planned to take a look back at twenty years of PlayStation. Those of you who have been with us from the beginning, along with those who are new to PlayStation family, are in for a special treat so please stay tuned.

In addition, on December 6th-7th, the PlayStation Experience takes over Las Vegas for a massive two-day community event dedicated to our fans. At PlayStation Experience you will also have access to the best PlayStation games coming in 2015, first hands-on with new content, developer interviews and panels lead by the industry’s most regarded development teams, and much more. This event is going to be amazing, so be sure to reserve your tickets now.

Thanks again for your incredible support over the years and please know that you, the PlayStation Nation, are in our hearts and minds every day reminding us to continue delivering the best gaming experiences possible and always ensure that PlayStation is truly the best place to play.

That felt quick. Fast year!

I'm not sure the system had a breakout, iconic release that would define the platform. The greatest amount of excitement around it seemed to be when TLOU Remastered was coming, and that's clearly not a new game.

I mean....for me and mine, I think our greatest experience in Year 1 with the system was actually P.T. Go figure!

I smell great things in Year 2, though.

Wow, a whole year without being able to natively playback MP3s or movies on my PS4.

Astonishing how far the OS has come in just a year.

I love my PS4

PS One backwards compatibility confirmed.

Just kidding, but the hints are there.

Looking forward to those upcoming blog posts on the PS family turning 20

Not looking forward to see this thread turn into a driveclub bashing thread. Although I fully expect it to.

I don't care what anyone else says about him, Shawn Layden's all right in my book.

I thought MP3 support was in a recent update.

From the infographic - "PS4 hardware sales generated the most revenue in the U.S. during its first year than any other new gaming platform"

"most... than"? Come on, guys. Grammar. It's "more than" or "most." Not both.

Happy Birthday, PS4! I cannot believe it's going on 20 years for the brand... I remember the launch of the first Playstation like it was yesterday; I couldn't buy one, so poor, but I played one at a friends... and I still vividly remember walking out of Circuit City with my PS2... and getting the PS3. Incredible...

Jesus, one year already? It feels like yesterday since GAF went crazy during that PS Meeting that revealed the PS4.

Funny story. I went to Circuit City at the time to pick up a Sega Saturn and saw this Playstation thing. I must have sat there for a good hour before I changed my mind and walked out with a PS1.

Cool, will be fun to see vids and stuff from the past. They should do a montage of their different ads since PS1. I wanna see a compilation of:

Guy cooking a triangle-square-X-O brochette
Creepy baby
The Ps3 with tentacles
Kevin butler
Step yo gaaaame up
This is for the players

Man, even though that was the correct decision (beside Virtua Fighter), it must have been brutal. lol

My brother and I both rented a Saturn and a playstation from blockbuster to decide which we would get for Christmas 95.

Went with Sony and never looked back.

Has been a forgettable year for exclusives, and even a frustrating one with lack of OS updates/fixes, but 2nd year looks like a rocketship.

Can't wait for the December hype.

Congratz Sony,

P.S. Could you please finally bring PlayStation Store to my country? I think it's time ffs.

Can't believe it has already been a year. Excluding PS+ games I haven't bought any game for it ever since I got PS4 bundle including a game. That will definitely change next week and next year, though.

Congrats on a successful first year, PS4.

Had to believe it's been 20 years for PlayStation. So many great memories and games in that time and I'm excited to see what they can do with the PS4, would be cool to see some surprise revivals.
