PlayStation has canceled two more live-service games, from subsidiaries Bend and Bluepoint, Bloomberg has learned

Bluepoint was working on a live service project? You gotta be fucking kidding me. Herman is a fucking completely joke.
Now you've done it. Be prepared for the local numero uno Hulst fanboy schooling you about how "The Hulster"'s tenure has been top class and their spreadsheets are better than ever.

Someone, anyone, over at Sony... remove whoever is pulling these decisions from PS. STAT.

And you know what's even more scary?.... that if Hermen gets fired.... the next in line to take his position will be Neil Druckmann.

This sounds so suspicious…So Bluepoint themselves and Sony confirmed Bluepoint were working on a brand new IP..How the fuck is GoW considered a new IP?
Honestly I legit doubt this is true, and if it is the project was in early stages while the main team was working on the new IP. Only way this makes any sense…

They never said new IP, they said original content, not remakes/remasters basically.
But in the end since they have been working on Ragnarok until 2022 it's "just" two years of work they have lost.
Bend instead have been really unlucky, they're still stucked with Days Gone as their last released game and it will stay that way for a long time, they're no Naughty Dog with multiple teams, it's a pity.

Anyway it's clear that Sony regrets the GaaS push and they have been course correcting since last year with all the cancellations even before Concord that was their final wake up call. Totoki is ordering Hermen to clean the house.
They should have focused on just a few key projects (like Helldivers2, Marathon, etc) and stop.
Now they will have to use partnerships with external developers (like they did with Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin) to fill the voids left by the cancellations.

Schreier has a good track record. You can usually take what he says to the bank.

Isn’t Hermen the one who thought Concord was the future of PlayStation with “Star Wars-like potential”, and it was off-limits for criticism because it was his baby?
These projects were in the works for several years. Sure, he would have adopted them and been excited for them. I just appreciate when someone decides to course correct and take the L instead of letting their egos destroy decades of market dominance and goodwill and never learn their lessons

Based on track record of all these new GAAS games, it looks like only H2 was a success and released. Concord released and is the biggest flop ever unless someone wants to debate ET on 2600 again. A few newbies like Marathon, Fairgames and Horizon MP are TBD as they're still being worked on.

The rest are cancelled, including the entire studio too in some cases. And that even includes Concord/Firewalk.

Oh be real, does anyone actually believe this part? Shit like this gets tracked within corporate no matter what, would have Totoki personally chosen him as co-CEO had any of those things actually happened?

So how do they cancel Factions, which actually had a shred of potential because it worked as a MP mode, but let gow gaas run for as long as they did? Was it just not wanting to schedule the awkward meeting? No doubt Bend and Bluepoint had to tool up entire divisions that didn't exist to support projects like these. Lord knows there's a powerpoint somewhere projecting millions of players for gow gaas. To be a fly on the wall of that meeting. Shit it was probably zoom anyways. I want to know what Bend was cooking too. I've been bagging on Sony for the last 6 months and I couldn't even have imagined gow gaas. Horizon Kart Live? Destiny in the Forespoken universe? F2P Spiderverse Casino? The mind boggles.

Bend probably will be closed. What a waste with Bluepoint making a gaas.

Sony is totally fucked next gen. Besides these 2 only 13 studios making aaa for them. Good luck! 1 game per year at best next gen.

This is Jim’s legacy. If anything, Hermen is cleaning it up. I actually commend the guy for having the balls to make these tough decisions while there is still time, instead of running PlayStation into the ground. Hermen’s only mistake so far is putting way too much weight into the Horizon IP. Given it’s from GG, even that bias is understandable.

HH is making the right call, but I'd have commended him for big balls had this cleanup started before Concord bombed.
