PlayStation Mobile is shutting down, let's do a final recommendations thread GAF!

After the next store update on July 14/15 the much mistreated Playstation Mobile store will be gone, an article in case you missed it, and while a couple of game got a native Vita upgrade a lot of games will be inaccessible.

Let's go for a last round of recommendations since there are good games.in there, I'll start with a few of my favorites

Passing Time
EfdGTsQ.jpg

From the developer of Frobisher says and Hohokum, this is probably one of the best short burst" games ever. It's a football game with a simple premise tap any player to pass the ball around, you can play a full match or different challenges and hings can get pretty intense.

I always go back to play for a few minutes, super fun and well made and is well worth the $2.79

Saicoro-puzzle*KURA:ssic

Puzzle game a la Puyo Puyo, you get a piece with two numbers from 1 to 6 that you can rotate, once you match three consecutive numbers in any direction you clear the pieces like matching 3-4-5 or 6-1-2.

The stages have a score goal and the only way to clear after the first couple of stages is to create combos, simple premise but it works great.

The presentation is very nice and you can even win wallpapers for your Vita! the game is free to try and you just buy the unlock key for all the stages and an endless mode for $1.49 I believe, just give it a try trust me.

Chiebura

ZlHz5ql.jpg

Arcade shooter, you have a grappling hook and you need to hold the button to grab onto the same place and doing that you can also shoot in any direction but the screen auto scrolls and you have enemies and.projectiles coming from all directions so you really need to be swinging all the time and it can get pretty frantic.

Super fun and it controls great, AND is just one dollar! just go and purchase it

Magic Planet Snack Deluxe

MwFjiOI.jpg

You control a worm and try to collect while avoiding enemies, once you collect enough to hyper letters on the bottom so you can turn all items and enemies into snacks for more points.

It's a fun score attack game that gives you that "one more round" itch as you play, it's only 0.79, oh and you can play it vwetically in hot dog mode.

Other stuff
PSN stores archived stream of over 5 hours of PSM games, it's a fun watch and the games played with their time stamps are in the description

Instructions on how to keep the games after the shutdown

I'll post more recommendations, but do share yours, ask for suggestions and of course go get some games before they are gone!

Pretty cool choices, I'll check em out!

I'll give a shout out to Tokyo Jungle Mobile and the Oh, Deer! Alpha.

I actually just tried out Passing Time last night and the challenges gave me a Warioware feel so knowing now that it comes from the Frobisher devs makes sense. Great little game, pretty cool they just gave it out for free at one point!

Rymdkapsel; Tokyo Jungle Mobile; Healer only lives twice; Oh Deer Alpha; Forevolution & Sixty Second Shooter Deluxe would be my recommendations.

Sadly, pretty much everything else I played was hot garbage. PSM was not the platform I was hoping it would be - all 5 of the decent games I played on it I just ended up thinking "I wish this was PSN native" and everything else was of too low a quality, sadly.

This is disappointing, anyone have a list of games that were ported to the native store that won't be lost forever. So I know which ones to buy now?

Thanks.

this was a major issue... the lack of trophies (while a completely sane decision by Sony, and i agree they shouldn't have them) really hurt. The general lack of quality -- again, because Sony made the right decision in not really curating it -- also compounded the issue.

there are great games on it and thankfully many of the best got vita native versions.

PSM died a death almost anyone could have predicted. It was a nice try, i guess, but there was no way it could ever get the legs it needed to survive. I'm thankful sony tried it, because it did get us some gems, but i don't begrudge them for shutting it down... it was the only logical choice, really. It just wasn't successful.

Tokyo Jungle Mobile - best game on psm

Adventure Bar Labyrinth -- it plays like Sorcery Saga ... everytime you leave the dungeon you revert to lvl 1 but keep your fantastic equipment. once you beat the main dungeon an endless one opens. there is dlc but you don't need it (if you die in the dungeon you lose any equipment you are wearing and don't have stored, there is a dlc item (rare to find in game) that lets you keep stuff you die in... so just don't die, it's not particularly difficult).

Rymdkapsel - solid rts sort of game.

EDIT:
Has anyone played that Ambitions of the Slime game? it looked amazing, but it was WAY too expensive for me to take a chance on.

Pretty sure I played this on the Indie section of the 360 store before, but I remember it being fun so I'll check it out on Vita too.

Is it known if we're going to be able to restore from a backup on PS3 or PC? Can't believe we're not even going to be able to redownload these games

Also, OP forgot to include Vitabounce!

Perfect timing, was just about to look for this thread.

Would love to hear of stuff not often recommended. Bluemaxima did a good video on 25 to check out as well.

Editing in my recommendations now, I picked up shitloads.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
MUSYNC - on the more pricey side but it's a music rhythm game with tonnes of actually good music and you actually use buttons! Get all the music free (dev tweeted this) by setting your time to past the date they're going to go free anyway (sometime in september) click a song then click cancel when it goes to buy. Don't need to do it again but you do need it to do it once for each one and there are quite a few, which is good. No issues changing your time back/setting it auto and playing the songs you unlocked for free.

UFO Dad - puzzle block matching + sort of mr driller! Feels better to play after a few times as you understand the controls moving the guy below the blocks (and having him slap them up and then across if you can and also switch positions with the blocks) I love mr driller so that this even had a tiny bit of the blocks falling on you made me happy

Gunhouse - block matching puzzle game + strong focus on defense from multiple lane attackers using the puzzle game. Fun and cheap as well.

Switch Galaxy, Super crate box and life of pixel of course

Oh deer! alpha - outrun with deers

Picbox - really cheap and good picross

Minesweeper

Snake

Games I like but haven't played enough of yet to fully recommend but still worth checking out:

Ten by Eight - match puzzle game with lots of blocks for big combos, pretty chill and quite good and reasonably cheap. A fair few mechanics, seems simpler than it is. But again, it's chill, not that complex.
Yu-Nama puzzle - (quite expensive though) - fun block puzzle game while some guy attacks you - I kinda skipped a lot of the intro but the gameplay seemed fun and pretty good, and the presentation is decent
Behind you - mgs vr mission type stuff but not in that boring vr graphical style, so check it
Megablast - fun arcade game, like invaders but you can move up and switch sides, it seems pretty good
Radiant Deluxe
Rymdkapsel
60 second shooter - upgrades make this pretty decent
Tokyo jungle mobile - quite pricey
Grid survivor - kind of like geometry wars but you keep moving all the time - but can slow down manually
A healer only lives twice - play as a healer :)
Console Saga - platformer with some swinging
Rebel - kill everything attacking you by dodging bullets and have them fire at each other
Ele-mental - absorb the coloured blobs coming for you as you move around and dodge them and other cool things- lasers so far, (instead of firing at the blobs). Do it by quickly pressing the face button that corresponds with the colour (need to get used to that a bit). Low presentation value but I like the gameplay
Mugogy Jump - like doodlejump, I like what I played of it
M.B.Re - fun shortish shmup, nice style - same with wing warriors ... but the icon is really bad for that imo. Almost makes it worth skipping unforunately. I've kept it though.
Crab in Space - make your own shmup ship with parts you break off others, quite weird and fun
Super Space Serpent
Night riders - super hang on - lacks a bit in the environment graphics but otherwise quite fun.
popbugs - very simple and free game, pop shit, start a chain.
Game lab project - quick budget jump in arena first person shooter if you got that itch, I like the controls more than other stuff
Vita bounce - for the songs
Chiebura - in op, and MPSD was mentioned too
Animals: ctl - it's like a cute frogger
flick hockey - for the top down finger hockey multiplayer with another person
cubixx - classic game in 3d, decent, I like the gameplay but it's another simpleish one
Maybe shuttle quest 2k - setup seems great (gameboy style, monster hunter mission grabbing) but not sure about the actual shmup levels yet, not played enough at all

Bought and played very briefly but somewhat enjoyed: jaggy race!, gravity cube and gaffer made dynamite dude which is kind of like a bomberman puzzler, super tank poker, feed me oil. Also there was another interesting shooter but I can't remember it, backed it up somewhere think it was free too -- oh gravity junk. Just had a skin in app purchase.

There's a runner I think I'm going to get too, actually I picked up sea run which has a nice gameboy style, nekorush (some cat runner thing) and runner...as I really like boost...but not sold on that yet.
Anyway the runner is erm Run Run and Die which has some old game influences (not too old) and looks quite fun but I'm not 100% there aren't framerate issues on the vita version. Not picked it up but read something uncertain about a post of his looking forward to some unity thing not long ago on a dev forum because of that.

Hopefully the backups don't get corrupted. I should check before PSM closes.

It's a shame that it closing made me realise that I should have given PSM more of a chance and explored (the pretty awful) store more and looked up the games.
The smaller types of games give you a nice variety in arcade and puzzle gameplay which I want for my handheld. No extra stuff, just gameplay, graphics and music. As long as the game is decent. Some of the ones I posted are super simple but still nice to have. Eg - snake and minesweeper and the doodle jump thing ...I don't play them on my phone for battery reason (and especially not snake without buttons) so it's nice to have something really simple to load up every now and then. Especially with most of them not taking up much space either.

Get all the music free (dev tweeted this) by setting your time to past the date they're going to go free anyway (sometime in september) click a song then click cancel when it goes to buy. Thanks for pointing this out. Picked this game up a few days ago, but didn't want to shell out for the dlc as well. Now I can scratch my embarrassing pre-Dancing All Night rhythm game itch!

Farewell PS Mobile, I hardly knew ye.

Fragment's Note- English translated visual novel. Recently dropped to half price
Bomber Farm - decent Bomberman clone
Night Rider 3D - very basic Hang-On style racer, nice music
Bloodred Wyvern 2 - Space Harrier clone, difficult but fun. Recently dropped to 50c. Don't bother with the first one
Oh, Deer! Alpha - incredible sprite-scaling OutRun style driving. Killer soundtrack
Miko Gakkou: Second Year - fun little combination of rhythm game and bullet hell
Behind You - well made 3D stealth game. Engrish translation adds to it

Soooo why dont they just add thee as a new section on PSN?

That really wouldn't accomplish anything. The entire issue is that PSM has absolutely abysmal sales and it costs more to maintain it all than it'll ever bring in. It's already effectively it's own 'section' on PSN in the vita store, and nobody uses it. Moving it to PSN proper (which is an odd way of looking at it to begin with) would cost even more money and really wouldn't change a thing - that would be purely organizational, and PSMs issues/failures are far deeper than that.

.

Good suggestions inthe video indeed and you posted a lot of good recommendations, I think I need more PSN funds to buy everything I want, starting with:

A healer only lives twice - play as a healer :)
.

Also mentioned on the video and by Kresnik258 a few posts above, looks interesting but I am not sure on what exactly is it?.

Also how challenging is Musync? I like rytthm games but can't do crazy reflexes gameplay

^ Musync has 30 songs on easy mode now (I think they're the same for hard mode but more difficult but I'm not 100%) and it seems decently forgiving, focusing more on improving your scores. It also got an update today but I don't know what it does (others might want to update while you can though in case of bug fixes - not sure if you'll be able to later).

A healer only lives twice...I played it a bit, but basically you have a guy in front of you attacking enemies (you control which) and you have to balance keeping him alive (including the different body parts) with various potions (you can make them from loot they drop iirc) while keeping your mana up as well. Levelling up the attacker... I didn't get too far only picked it up recently.

A decent video showing it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si9hZcjV_aQ

Most of the games in the list are pretty damn cheap btw.

I fully support:

Bike Rider DX
Tokyo Jungle Mobile
rymdkapsel

Legit good games. I also really liked Aqua Kitty and Rock Boshers, but they got native Vita versions.

Not sure if anyone's interested, but we (PlayStation LifeStyle) ran a feature on PS Mobile and what went wrong. Devs even chimed in and spoke about what worked and what didn't with the platform.

(Also, the feature has a top 15 best PS Mobile games list included as part of the article):
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2015/03/25/went-wrong-playstation-mobile/#/slide/1

And, we also ran a feature on the last PS Mobile game (Oh, Deer!) released on the platform and talked to the studio (Necrosoft).

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net...oh-deer-farewell-playstation-mobile/#/slide/1

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting 'em since I think they're highly relevant to the topic. Mods, if I did, just let me know. :)

Also, sad that we might be one of the few publications that even bothered to run a feature on PS Mobile. :(

Chiebura is so wonderful. One of my two favorite Japanese Xbox Indies, was happy to see it ported to PSM. Poor game just can't find a stable platform to be on. :(

It still exists! For about three days :(

I am actually surprises Sony did't builld up on it and release a native Vita version, oh well, I am never deleting my copy

It does? I could never find it on the Store!

I'm having trouble finding Forevolution in the store. Which genre is it under?
I can't seem to find that one either. Is it possible it's been removed? I can't find any notice of that, but I don't think there was any notice when Cytus Lambda vanished either.

forevolution is the last title under strategy (for me in EU) - £4.49
Edit: I'm using the NA PSM store, and double checked after seeing you write that but it's still not showing up for me. I know it must have been there at some point as it's mentioned on the US PSN blog and was part of some promotion or other, but it doesn't seem to be there now.

Thanks for locating blue beacon, forevolution is the last title under strategy (for me in EU) - £4.49

It looked interesting, nice style too but I skipped at that price.

I've gone with...

Musync

- I'm a MASSIVE DJMAX fan, and I'd never heard of this, so when I saw it last week I knew I had to get it to scratch the itch.

Oh, Deer! Alpha

- This looks like a lot of fun, and it was only 40p so it would be rude not to.

Tokyo Jungle Mobile

- I loved Tokyo Jungle on PS3, and this simplified version looks really fun too.

Looking forwards to playing them all!

Went with Oh Deer Alpha and Musync.

I went with the iOS version of Cytus instead of the PSM simply because a large number of chapters are free and is a couple of major versions ahead.

That's unfortunate, sorry ... are you 100% sure you're checking strategy and not puzzle?

Maybe it's called - "I'm gonna be god of the forest" ? the pc title...

How is 6-1-2 consecutive? I'm missing something...picked up the game, I like it, thanks. Only 40p for full version too. But sometimes random shit gets cleared, haven't figured it out fully yet.

OHHHH, like 6 is the end so it starts up again, like it loops back, okay I like that.

Thanks for the info, I went and picked A healer only lives twice seems like a cool concept.
I think I'll skip on Musync, saw a vido on it, easy mode I can handle but hard mode I just went nope

Bought Gunhouse (Disasterpiece soundtrack!).

It's obvious why this doesn't work. I wanted to buy Passing Game, but Search doesn't seem to work for PSM games. So I went to PSM section, clicked on All, and then it had me choose the category.. Passing Game.. is it arcade? action? God knows. After clicking through Arcade, I just get an endless list to scroll through that doesn't even seem alphabetical.

No wonder this didn't work. The PS Store is such a mess.

(I eventually found and bought Passing Time, it is under Sports.. duh)

Saicoro-puzzle*KURA:ssic is in the Puzzle section.

Chiebura is in the Featured section. (But not in the Arcade category?)

Picked up A Healer only Lives Twice.

-

About to pick up Ambition of the Slimes -- it's a sort of srpg... this review by touch arcade:
http://toucharcade.com/2015/01/27/ambition-of-the-slimes-review/

compares it to FFT and Tactics Ogre, and more. I don't like the $4 price tag, but the curiosity is getting to me and it seems to review well (plus it's got a very interesting take on it all, you control slimes that can coop enemies bodies and make them fight for you.

Edit -- bought. under Sims for some unknown reason.

-----------

debating on some others, but it's hard to pull the trigger on anything over $1... a lot of these should have had a garage sale at .49 and probably would have sold tons.

------

Picbox is a good suggestion. One of those Picross type games. Pretty decent and good fun, worth a go.

Picbox is solid; it's got a free demo and i believe the unlock is only 49 right now (need to go buy it too)... don't forget to buy the unlock before psm goes down!

edit - confirmed, .49 unlock, just bought it (i played all the free levels ages ago and loved it).

I can't seem to find that one either. Is it possible it's been removed? I can't find any notice of that, but I don't think there was any notice when Cytus Lambda vanished either.

Cytus Lambda is still in US store right now, under music/rhythm. It's free with an paid unlock iirc, downloading now

Pretty good mix:

There's also a dr mario clone I might get. - Dr Wiggly.
Grab ZooZoogo and Sokoban Catzzles, both free and decent.

Numblast is made by the mr driller guys so I picked that up too...it's a decent game but I miss the fun of mr driller a lot with this. Like the colours... and the numbers ehh

Yeah it loopa, ia likw if you are counting the same numbers over and over, I guess it made more sense in my head :D

But I quite enjoy Saicoro, you can see it was probably made by a few people with a shoestring budget but you can see some heart went into making it

Nice, I'll be interested in hearing your impressions since it looks interesting

Can anybody comment on the replayability of Haunt the House? Really like the art style but it seems that after you finish it that's it and the $3.49 price is holding me back.

So what are the chances that Sony could bring back these games at some point? Would licenses or other agreements prevent that or is it potentially something they could revisit awhile down the line?
