PlayStation Mobile Thread of Indie Games, and Apps on Android/Vita

60 second shooter seems decent, however I didn't buy it yet from PSM: When I searched for it on youtube it linked to a Chrome version which I've been playing for a bit. So demo the chrome version if you're interested (I'm assuming here that the two versions are pretty much the same)

They're a bit different but yeah, essentially the same. Really fun game, and looks really nice too. Fully recommend trying that one out.

How long will it take them to notice that the PSM store's banners have been the same since launch?

I give them until new years. Funny thing Japan and UK store have been changing them.

SCEA dont curr about your PSM.

The PSM version of Lemmings didn't have the level editor and upload/download capability that the PSP did. But is there anything keeping that sort of functionality out of PSM games?

I was reading the guidelines for PSM applications. Damn, well never see something exceptional out of this. The guidelines are very restrictive and basically only allow you to make "traditional" games. Anything a little more experimental (doing something better with online, UGC, etc.) seem to push the limits.

I thought they allow apps?

Possibly waiting on the online support for psm titles to add it as dlc. There are spaces for new features below the special pack. Might discourage people from buying the extra modes if it came with it now. Here's hoping :)

Puzziball is no longer free. Took them a week to notice.

It was free, but some of the levels were locked away and sold as paid DLC for the same $0.99 price that they're charging for the game now. Perhaps they changed it so that the $0.99 gets everything all at once?

That's a good question. Similar restrictions held Minis back as well. PS Mobile seems to have less restrictions than Minis, but nonetheless they still apparently have some limitations. I'm just hoping that PS Mobile as a platform will continue to grow and evolve, rather than remaining largely static and rigid like Minis.

Nope $.99 + $.99 for extra modes

I know it's still early, but PSM has been a real bust so far. Low quantity and quality overall.

All of the ones i have played have been high quality. The only games released so far are ones that Sony approached developers for. The SDK is now completely open to the public, so more will come soon. That will probably cause a drop in quality, though.

Sony approached a developer for that weird girl touching thing?

Agreed.

  • High prices of games compared to the iOS/google play
  • Paltry release each week, I think this week they got 2 games? Should be 10 times that, at least
  • Horrible store design, Playstation Mobile on top of the store is not really intuitive for casuals to click it as it looks like the store name or just a logo. A better naming convension would be 2 tabs, one for "Indie Games" and one for "Apps" for non gaming apps that would then have subsection of sports, finances, etc
  • Lack of non game apps released. There's one (1) total non gaming app on psm and only about 10 or so on vita app
  • Sony not allowing you to publish apps/non game apps that are free and ad based
  • Lack of trophies, multiplayer, leaderboard, and overall PSN integration. This is the most requested feature by developers and consumers alike and SCE has done nothing about it
  • Lack of announcements of games/apps that are coming, Lemmings was released on Monday and the blog post was put up today
  • The best source of information for psm games is kassatsu's website, that goes to show you how big of a bust this is. No offense to kassatsu's site, which is great, but the lack of news and presence on Sony's own site is telling

There's probably more, but

Its been ages since i played Lemmings, i like the Vita/PSM version.

None taken ;p

To be fair about limited release, it just came out of beta. People can finally release stuff. I expect it to pick up after new years.

But lack of coverage is a joke. SCEA still has not given companies vouchers so people can review games. SCEE has since launch.

It is a shame. PSM will go the way of minis if SCEA doesn't wake up.

Will ask the devs

Tractor Trails also had a price cut from $3.29 to $1.79

Cool, I tried to search to see if there was any news, and seemingly nothing, not on their twitter, or official pages...

A good price cut though, perfect price for me to finally get it.

I'm happy with PSM prices overall, personally. They're generally a perfect price to buy a PS1 classic + 1 of them, with leftover change from other odd purchases that leave inconvenient numbers.

I don't mind games that have "real" graphics and quality music costing more than a $1.50 or such either; I applaud people who actually make meaty, full-video-game like experiences on PSMobile, and charging a "premium" (lol, 50 cent or so more!) for something that's more than a few screens, static characters, and "1 element of a full game!" gameplay isn't something I mind on my gaming platform... especially if it has tuned controls, and works smoothly at Vita's full resolution.

I hope SCEA starts treating Mobile seriously soon. They really need to market, promote and speak about it so much more.

Yup. I had high hpoes for this and still hope it will improve as its open to all devs now. However I get the impression that its quite restricted and we wont get the offerings that are available on IOs / Android. I got a nexus 7 now so for me its not the end of the world but if the likes of "galaxy of fire 2", "shadowgun Dead Zone", "GTA remakes", hell even the "moden combat" games could come out on vita that would be a pretty big thing to have.

As time goes on Im just hugely doubting it will happen. I love the vita as a system but my faith in Sony doing things right is diminishing by the day.

Yeah, I had hopes of this basically letting me play Android games with a controller (well, buttons/sticks), but it doesn't look like that is going to be the case. Instead, it's looks like it's going to mostly be XBLIG type stuff, which isn't all bad (TACS Games has some interesting stuff, at least 2 out of 3), but if the leg massage game and the cricket triva apps were the highlights that Sony wanted to show off the program with, well....

Until they let developers use more RAM or the VM layer is more optimized high end stuff like on iOS and Android just isn't possible.

I agree. PlayStation Mobile is off to an OK, start, but they've still got a long way to go, especially with regard to the North American market.

Sony also needs to work on certifying more devices for PS Mobile. The current list of certified devices is still very small, especially when it comes to devices not made by Sony.

I'd like to see Sony courting more of the established iOS/Android game developers to bring their hit games to PS Mobile. Is there any reason why Sony hasn't convinced heavy hitters like Rovio and Zynga to jump on board with PS Mobile? Have they even tried?

Until they let developers use more RAM or the VM layer is more optimized high end stuff like on iOS and Android just isn't possible.

True, but that's why PS Vita exists for now. Low-end games should go to PS Mobile (in order to reach the largest potential user base), while high-end games should go to Vita.

Rovio wants Sony to pay for Angry Birds. I shit you not.

I remember hearing something like this before. What's the story here? Does Rovio want Sony to fund development of the game? If so, then perhaps they (Sony) should consider going along with it, as long as it's a reasonable amount and the development studio gets a fair share of the profits from game sales.

It seems Sony paid for the port/development of a few games on the Vita (both normal vita games and PSM). The word got around and now probably every stakeholder of a reasonable IP wants Sony to paid for the development instead of taking the risk themselves.

PlayStation Mobile store updated:

Surge (from Futurlab) - $3.29
Shiro-kuro hakkiri tsukeru kuma - $3.79

THE SECOND ONE IS THE GAME I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR ALL MY LIFE
