PlayStation Mobile Thread of Indie Games, and Apps on Android/Vita

According to this week's Famitsu, both Chaos Rings and Tokyo Jungle are coming out for PSM. Chaos Rings is optimized for Vita and will be available at the end of July for 800yen. Square Enix also want to port Chaos Rings Ω and 2 to PSM. Tokyo Jungle is set to be released on July 10 for 300yen (600yen afterwards), but is apparently now top view?

TJ is now a tactics game or something.

Right on! Was wondering if any of the higher profile Android stuff would jump over (be it via PSN or PSM releases, interesting it's PSM for Square Enix since PSM has had a difficult uptick not being so visible, but PSM needs some high-profile releases and S-E can't have much to lose by rerigging its old games on a readily compatible format, so win-win I hope.)

Also eager for Tokyo Jungle, never did pick up the PS3 game but I was very happy to see it come to the world and am eager for more. Interesting that it sounds like it's maybe a different game rather than just a port, the graphics of TJ are maybe a little unfairly slagged (I've seen much, much worse animal renderings) but it seemed like a game that could have been just straight ported. There's plenty of room to play with the concept in new releases, in any case.

I hope this leads to getting most Square Enix games on Vita.
Combining that with official controller support for iOS, I can have hope in the future of handheld gaming.

Sony USA actually post this weeks PSM releases (and last weeks, to catch up) in a blog post! Amazing, right?

PSM Releases Via PS Blog

They say they want to make it a weekly thing... I'm glad to finally see the games treated like they matter, y'know?

-----

Still grindin' away at Chapter V of Mononoke Slashdown... Though having just obtained the next (triple?!) Jump ability + Air Dash, I'm having quite a bit of fun sticking together aerial rave combos. And explosive Kunai are the best friends I never knew I wanted! The next Kunai Upgrade sounds like it's ripped straight out of Shinobi III (8 kunai radial spread), but I seriously need armor and attack upgrades before going for that...

Haha, I noticed it was you Kass, who asked about the update notes... I don't know why they'd decide against something like that, especially when taking the time to mention their release in the first place.

Maybe they want to invite the developers to the blog, to let them speak about their own updates?

I was glad to see Last weeks update mentioned, however. A load of standup titles, and it's be pretty lame for them to start updating on a quiet week, when the previous one was possibly the best the service has ever had...

Hi guys, as mentioned above, I've had Sony take down Picbox until I can get a patch released. Sony has confirmed that the problem is with the SDK, but have given me a way to work around it. Hopefully I'll have the game back up ASAP.

Whoa, real stuff.

Is Chaos Ring any good? It's nice to see Square Enix Japan at least starting to do what other companies should have been doing for a while now. Why aren't there PSM versions, or vita ports, of say.... most of Gamelofts, and Ubisofts 'console quality' projects on IOS/Android.

Wait... is Cytus is out?! GAHHHH I HAVE TO GET IT YESTERDAY

Its a long shot, but SE could be a shot in the arm that PSM needs to start getting some other big company brands onto the platform. Wether people like it or not Square Enix Japan puts a large focus on mobile games now, and this could lead to a good deal of support from them that neither the 3DS, or Vita have seen .

If they are successful, it could bring more interest from companies like Gameloft. Sony just needs to further invest, and grow platform to ensure these games can be successful.

Probably because they would run like crap on PSM. It can't handle 3D very well, so I am interested in seeing how Chaos Rings turns out.

Radiant Flux has received a new patch that adds infinity mode and the ability to turn the blurry effects off, AND the game has been reduced in price from £1.39 to £0.79! I got to play the game and completed it, it's tons of fun. Thank god you can turn the effects off now. It's odd how this isn't clear when you look at the store, there is no bump as far as I'm aware.

There's another new game on the store called MechHit. Anyone knows anything about it or wether it's good? It kinda went unnoticed.

Infinity mode was 2 patches ago :P

This is what 1.8 added
* Toggle to switch on/off visual effects.
* Player can now hold R to lock the ship's direction.
* Additional on screen button prompts and labels.
* Mines now explode on contact with enemy.
* Mine explosions do not die on contact with enemy.
* Basically mines are awesome now.
* Hold select while the game boots for a secret alternate color scheme.

Also here is some video from this week's releases and a few unreleased games ;)

Tokyo Jungle is a lot of fun, and really well done. Sure, there's some Engrish, but it's perfectly playable. I am a tad disappointed that it isn't an SRPG like we initially thought, since that would be a cool idea for the concept but hey.

Which one?

Feed Me Oil.

Yeah, I'm way behind it seems :P

Just had a look at your video and MechHit looks pretty cool. I'd have bought it by now if it wasn't for all that backlog and other priorities *puts on wishlist* ShuttleQuest 2000 looks so fantastic but that's not much of a surprise as I seem to like Thomas Hopper games a lot *day 1* I ended up buying Tokyo Jungle based on your video and the fact that it's 50% cheaper for a week and it has been a good choice. It's a very good and addictive game *never played the PS3 version* Suddenly there are too many PSM games to keep up with. That puzzle game looked also good in your video :/

Now if only Sony in other parts of the world would do the same thing with their big IP.

Imagine if God of War or The Last of Us got the same treatment.

Yeah, yeah, I know they ported Lemmings. And published Bullion Blitz. And Beats Trellis. So they haven't completely ignored it, but this was much bigger.

Feel the same way.

I was not expecting them to keep all the animals from the original at least.

I was gobsmacked to see that huge roster of animals, after seeing the first handful of screens with only a Pomeranian and getting the feeling it was just Pomeranian.

Also, smh @ people who keep thinking this was going to be the exactly the same as the PSN game.

Things like that Uncharted card game, and Pinball Heroes should've been PSM releases.

What I don't understand is what's stopping them from supporting other countries? That should be their biggest priority to improve sales and that in turn will make the platform healthy. How long are they planning on supporting only 8 countries?

Played through the stuff I bought:

Adventure Bar Labyrinth (seems alright, the iap is to buy gems which buy items)
Flapper Princess (avoid, really terrible jumping)
Hermit Crab In Space (fun, I like building my ship up and watching it get blasted)
Pic Box (very basic picross game, seems okay)
The Packet Queen (kinda confusing puzzle game, need to play it a bit more)
Touch Treasure (whack a mole, pass)

Is there a way to turn off that massive, ugly virtual d-pad in Adventure Bar Labyrinth? =x Couldn't see anything in the options.

It ultimately doesn't matter anyway; the game obviously was made for the size the screen is presented at, and the tap controls can actually be useful for turning direction (a bit faster than Square + DPad)

On to the actual game itself, I'm pretty impressed. For a freebie on PSM, the graphics look crisp and colorful (more rich than many PSP emulations, for example), and the little animations in battle are pretty nicely done (though could have cheaped out on many a thing.)

Even if it's (so far) miniscule, I'm happy to see it has some exploring of the town, deep dungeon exploration, and a cooking mini-game all included.

The Microtransaction model doesn't seem horrible either. You can use real money to buy crystals, which will let you buy storage expansions, weapons that you don't lose upon death in the dungeon, and basically any utility drop for on-demand purchase. The beginner dungeon made it appear that actual loot is plentiful, but I could see one wanting to spend for revives in deep dungeon runs.

But early impressions make it feel like you can get a pretty good amount of game here, without spending a dime.

There's also some selections in the option menu that seem to be for alt art or something... future purchases, or something one earns through gameplay?

All the in-dungeon systems work well, too; things are fairly intuitive, and swapping items with ones on the floor, tossing them as weapons, or drinking excess potions for permanent buffs for that run, are all welcome features that make life easier.

I was surprised when a random Dungeon Fungus "Sleep Locked" by by putting me to sleep on approach, hitting me twice, and then re-buffing sleep before it wore off... that's some wicked, crafty strategy, lol.

Will be a fun thing to play while waiting for Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God to come on on Vita Proper.

Unlimited games got released tonight. The majority look like crap!

Adventure Bar Labyrinth
Block Buster
Dynamic Visual Acuity Test
Flapper Princess
Hermit Crab In Space
Pic Box
The Packet Queen
Touch Treasure
Tsukimachi no Yoru Sukumyu 2nd

Packet Queen, Dynamic Visual Acuity Test, and Pic Box were the only releqses in Canada. I am getting incredibly frusturated by this. I live in Ontario, a province where French isn't an official language. Ugh.

Isn't Hermit Crab in Space a Sony supported game? Why does it not launch in all PSM countries? It's not available in Germany. Same goes for some other releases from today...

Wow, I had exactly the same idea for a game for PSM than Hermit Crab.

It's not really that much original but still. :P
