PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

Honestly, the obvious waifu pandering in Sword Art Online is something I think is outright offensive and a blight on the game(Gameplay is good enough to ignore it, though and I'm not really interested in having a huge debate on it).
It's a game based on a harem anime/light novel. I don't know what you were expecting.

But here, we're talking about Dragon's Crown. Yes the Amazon and Sorceress have absolutely ridiculous, annoying proportions. Yes, the NPCs look equally ridiculous. However, in this case, it's such a small portion of what you see in the game(Unless you choose to play as the sorceress or Amazon) that I frankly do not care. It really isn't relevant in this case.

Eh... even the game that many praises as the Lord and Savior of Vita, Persona 4 Golden, has "obvious waifu pandering."

I guess it's just the reality of things that Vita happens to be the home of games of these types.

Stealing top post:

I hope it's just because Crimsonland is a bit "steeply priced" in EU that there isn't much talk about it.

I know US vitagaf is just anime/rpgaf :P

The top-down view with 90s PC-game artstyle does scream cheap at first. But this arcade gem has been refined over like a decade. It's an arena shooter with lots of levels, difficulties, modes and hi-scores.
Ultra sensitive to the right-stick input.

Runs very well, some slight slowdown when it gets crazy hectic but 99% of the time it's awesome. Even though the artstyle is old, there are some decent effects - it has footsteps! But also awesome blood splatter and lots of weapon effects.

It gets really cramped with all the enemies. Got to make it over to the next power-up.

A great arcade shooter, hours of fun. And then some more in the survival modes. Perfect for the Vita.

Good post. I've put like 12 hours into this game. Awesome local co op

It's different in that you actually learn about the characters and their personalities in Persona 4.

Didn't even know co-op was possible, nice!

Also with this game I'm loving the various perk combos you can go with in survival mode, although you need a bit of luck and skill in order to get some of the perks to stack and go to x2 mode.

Currently making my way through the third set of hardcore levels in quest.

This is the cover art for the game:

It's more doom than doom, for me anyway.

(spiders, zombies and lizard people, same as the enemies in the game)

Giantbomb
Totalbiscuit

Sorry if it's spammy.. just wanted to share how awesome some of the designs and atmosphere is in this game. These are just random grabs from my online games tonight, and one shot from a few months back. The game looks amazing, and even more impressive in motion.

It was super easy to find random online games today.

Also want to use this opportunity to air some dirty laundry. Crimsonland does not have cross-save between Vita/PS4. And Pinball Arcade doesn't have cross-platform season passes. I bought Season 1 on PS4 and it doesn't unlock on Vita. Blergh.

New SSD owners! :D

I've been fairly busy the past few weeks, but I should have some free time next week if anyone wants to do some co-op.

I got SS and SSD at launch, just stopped playing SSD due to being flooded with Vita games. Feel free to add me, SSD Gaf! I'm ingueferroque on SEN.

Dragon's Crown is a gorgeous game. I don't find the character design offensive or even questionable. It's neat. And hey, the guys look just as ridiculous as some of the female characters, so it's at least taking its art style both ways.

As for SAO -- you can completely ignore the waifu stuff if you'd like. It's not required and has no affect on the game play. It's a great game by design in that you have lots of choices on what you're going to do with your time, just like a real MMO.

I think the best way to enjoy a game is to appreciate it on a merit as a whole experience, rather than cherry picking individual elements you specifically do or don't like.

I thought I remembered you had SSD already.

Except that like SAO, I'll only be able to play these games after September 14th. Until then, I just download them and admire the bubbles.
Good enough for me.

Finished episode 14 of the SAO anime. I probably shouldn't bother watching past that, right?

I....uh....just....sigh. The "art" in that game actually offends me. It offends me as a human being. The only thing more offensive than that "art" are the people that say it's good. It's offensive to me and it's offensive the human race. You're offensive to the human race for liking it. Dragons Crown makes the world a worse place to live in. Even by Japanese standards the character designs are attrocious. Even if the actual game was good(which I don't think it is but then it's not really my sort of game anyway) the character designs alone make it a game I would actively tell people to stay away from. Dragons Crown is a game I would actually forbid people from playing if I had the power. Or at least force people to play it blindfolded. The "art" is that bad.

This was mostly a serious post. God I hate the character designs in that game. I despised this game before I even got to the gameplay.

You are not being the Guy right now.

I'm kind of scratching my head on how the character designs are so bad in your mind that you would actively destroy it from existence lol.

I will say this.
Dragon's Crown gets my pick for Vanillaware's best game.

(Haven't played Grand Knights Historia or Grim Grimoire so I can't comment on them)

Sucks that I'm mostly offensive to the human race though. *shrug*

Looking through some of this guy's posts one can see that he's literally abiding by his name. All I see is pretty much negative comments lol, he really is THAT guy. I wouldn't worry too much, I think he's a lost case.

Once class starts on Monday I'll have more time to play Vita games (waiting between classes and the like). Add me for SSD: luxuriasin

Still have yet to play PBBG, too, so I'd be down for that.

All of you guys playing SSD and I haven't even beaten SS yet. I'm on Chapter 2 of Fading Humanity. How far am I from the end of the game? It feels like it drags on sometimes.

All of the PS+ IGC games for each month are added at the beginning of that month now. There won't be anything new until September 2.

Hahaha, so is this the new question on repeat?

I remember when it was like "what's next week's PS+ game? Do we know when X is going to be free on PS+? Why isn't X free already, it's free this month, right?" :lol

I thought I remembered you had SSD already.

I think it couldn't really hurt to keep pushing forward and finishing what you've started. I actually liked the 2nd arc quite a bit more than the first.

It depends :l. Do you like Asuna's character from the first half of the season? Did you really like the world that SAO takes place in? Do you expect a realistic central bad guy?

....The remaining half of S1 doesn't have any of those things sadly X(. Granted, I just didn't like how they handled Asuna's character in the second half
as she becomes the "Princess Peach" to Kritaro rather then a strong and cool character
and really hated the bad guy
at least Halfclifff didn't fuck with the minds of the series characters; the new villain not only torments Kitrato during the start of the second half but treats Asuana as a doll X(
, but the new world that the second half takes place in is interesting and while the cast of the first half don't really pop up, seeing Kitrato's sister have a larger role was nice :).

If it means anything, S2 looks to be really solid from what I saw of it, so if you don't mind sticking through the second ark, then you might really like that one :D. The world in that season is much darker and visually different then the ones in S1 and the new character (Sinon) is a very interesting character :).

What I did was watch episodes 15-16 then jumped to 23-26 of the second ark (then went back on the stuff I missed). I did like it, but not nearly as much as I did the first ark.

Just fyi his name is Kirito :p

But yeah the second half is pretty bad. S2 is okay so far.

I didn't say it ruined the game for me, and I knew about this aspect going in. It's certainly cringeworthy though. The Anime is a lot less focused on the fact that every single girl kirito meets is over-the-top in love with him though.

Eh... even the game that many praises as the Lord and Savior of Vita, Persona 4 Golden, has "obvious waifu pandering."

I guess it's just the reality of things that Vita happens to be the home of games of these types.

Persona 4 golden has it in a corner to the point where I wouldn't call it pandering. Pretty much all of Sword Art's cutscenes focus on how much all the girls are in love with kirito. There's a substantial difference.

That aside, as I said, I'm not really interested in a debate on the subject. I was simply using it to show the difference between something that is actively offensive and something that just has some distasteful art.

I actually agree with this. In fact it was my point.

It really isn't. Literally every girl he meets falls in love with him, even his blood relative in the anime. But yeah of course the game is going to be more fan servicey by nature, it exists for fans of the show basically.

Never said you said it ruined the game btw :p

I have to agree with the bolded; while that stuff really doesn't bother the gameplay at all, it is distracting if you considering the fact that Kirtaro is married (which every female character in the games world seeming completely glosses over and when they DO bring it up, it still doesn't mean anything XD!). I swear, after watching gameplay online, I'm honestly wondering if the guy has a shirt that reads "I'm married!" somewhere in the game XD. I get the game isn't cannon but still....it just feels odd for him to just hook up with EVERYONE when in the anime he goes above and beyond for Asuna :l.

In regards to Dragons Crown though, I don't get the issues :l. The game has a......very forward art style, I will give it that :l. Still, that really doesn't hinder the game and depending on which class you pick from the start, the issue becomes a non-issue completely. The game goes overbroad with the fantasy style and rolls with that, and while it may be....distracting at times, it makes for some really amazing looking environments and some great enime designs :D. I only played the first two or so hours of the game since I downloaded it, but I really like it so far :).

lol.

"Of course not" .....saying that RIGHT as he beings to cheat on her; classic XD!

I guess the developers thought that the world has all these female characters that like the guy, they might as well give the player a chance to use persure those options he ignored in the anime :l.

It is out of character, but it is largely the players choice if there main character does those things, so I guess it isn't that bad?

The events really play off this fact greatly XD! Yui...has some amazing lines in the game that really puts Kitaro in very bad spots, so that makes up for this design choice for me.

im honestly excited for Chaos Rings 3 on Vita. im hoping this games can get a localization. Its a great pack icludes all 4 games on it. Please do at least an international version or something

So I just bought SSD. Never liked the aesthetics of the series but I've heard the games are great and this page was the tipping point I guess.
Don't know when I'll play it though because I already have a bunch of games to play. And the fact that my few Vita-owning friends never play on their doesn't help either.

Trailer

Behind You is a recent PlayStation Mobile release from Pon Pon Games, the developers behind PSM's Galatea and a catgirl runner with a severely long title. I like to call their latest creation a sneak'em up. You play as a girl looking for her kidnapped family members. Your objective is to sneak through top-down multi-room levels without getting detected by guards or security cameras. Doing this requires you to stay in the shadows to hack and fight your way to the end.

mtG3afy.jpg

You can take down the guards with your hands or a gun (displayed in first-person). The enemies don't die. They just faint. To not raise the suspicions of other nearby guards, you can place the unconscious bodies on chairs. The NPCs will walk by them, say something like, "Resting on the job? I wish I could do that" and not detect a thing. There's also distractions like a meowing cat recording, though I haven't figured out how to use that yet.

My major gripe with the game is that enemies and cameras reset once you exit a room. There seems to be a lot of backtracking as you get keys to previously locked doors, which means you have to scurry by all the cameras and guards once again. I also have a concern about the length. I suck at this game, but I noticed the main menu only lists four "Acts". Each "Act" shouldn't take more than 10-20 minutes.

With that said, the game is only $3.49. It has a very nice low-poly look to it and I'm enjoying the experience. There isn't much of a story, so it might be a good stealth game for someone not looking to scroll through loads of text.
