So i got mine, it works really really well tbh.

The resolution dips at times and so does the audio to compensate for lag but its almost one to one. Perfect for genshin and honkai dailies lol

I plan to use it exactly for that too.

I wonder if Link will help with this? It's got to have some big bandwidth to take care of all the audio. Could be some of that will alleviate any connection strain. Did you have headphones connected or using speakers?

Im using the speakers, maybe headphones help but i havent tried it with them yet.

As people have said i wouldnt use this for any online competitive gaming, just single player games

Nonsense.

A game like MW3 can be played just fine, depending on your internet connection.

Although, I'd avoid ranked matches.

I get smoked on small maps on this thing in MW3

I am not very good as is the reflexes are getting a little slower but that built in lag really hurts me

Hopefully using the Explore is an added benefit

Fair enough.

You won't be performing the same as when playing on a tv, that's true.
So I figure I'll just accept that and play it more casually on Portal. Win some, lose some.

Despite the lag, it still plays pretty smooth. Then again, maybe I was expecting a complete disaster going by some early reviews, causing me to be pleasently surprised with how it actually performs.

The remote play app on the Ipad works really well. There was one little judder while i was flying around in spiderman 2. played for around 5 minutes. Pretty decent image quality. No real artificating. no real lag.

Dont think im going to buy this thing unless it has a better screen or better input lag/streaming. But the reviews said its virtually identical to the experience on other remote play apps so not sure why I would purchase this thing.

Worst case is, you spend less time on your phone and more gaming. That's the way I look at it. Rpgs are time consuming.

Updates on this things sure takes some time.

Device feels super neat and lightweight.

Time to try it out.

Regarding the 120Hz thing :
Read the post on Reddit and...OF COURSE the dude had problems, it's not the 120Hz of the TV for crying out loud but the fact that the 120Hz mode on spiderman 2 runs at...an unlocked framerate ffs which a VRR TV can smooth out (but the portal's screen cannot since it doesn't support VRR), of course gameplay and video is gonna feel like shit when you also put streaming into the equation...

So, false alarm, just use either the 30 or 60fps modes in your games, everything else is just Placebo, 120Hz TV owner here, have 0 problems in games via RP, then again, my network is good and everything is set-up properly so your mileage may vary.

Cheers

Already dropped it off at fed ex. My ps5 is plugged into a orbi access point and portal was connected via WiFi. Sure it would be fine with something like spider man but I mostly play destiny and just not what I need.
Your post helped with my concern. I'm still on the fence about picking up the console but have enjoyed playing others. I'm stuck between PS5 bulky, Slim and Portal. The other thread on Slim seems hasn't convinced me on that. PS5 bulky is running at a decent price out here anyway for the time.

Tried genshin impact, and to my surprise when those insane amounts of numbers pop up on the Portal streaming holds pretty well.

It's work great 95% of the times. Sure I hear a few audio hiccups very occasionally, and see one or two frame drops, but having played remote on my phone previously, this device feels like a huge step up and improvement.

Pleasantly surprised I must say.

What the hell? I hope you know that you need a ps5 to use the ps portal.

Just got mine. Really surprised with the build quality.. it is supreme. Also really surprised with how comfortable it is to hold.

Performance wise..I’m disappointed so far. On 300mb/s down, Spider-Man 2 looks and plays clunky as hell.

Will mess around with my settings to see if I can get a better experience.

You mean this?

Keep in mind I am a sheltered filthy westerner "USA USA USA!!!!"....do people ACTUALLY use public wifi?

If so is it a common practice in other countries, or are the IGN folks not able to afford more than 5gb of data on their cell plans and thus had a shitty experience much like their Stadia review?

I, too, have an Orbi RBR50 system that doesn't have the ability to separate the SSID. Does your Portal automatically connect to the 5 GHz or the 2.4 GHz? You can use the 192.168.1.1 in the URL and log in to see which band the Portal connects to. If the Portal automatically connects to the 2.4 GHz with the Orbi system, then that's a no-go for me.

I don’t have that system but mine connected to my 2.4ghz then corrected it self to 5ghz later on.

Botted up cyberpunk 2077. For a FPS plays rather well and image stays pretty steady.

Was going to try Spider-man 2 but already uninstalled that one.

Meanwhile tried Callisto Protocol, feels heavy and slugish. Didn't liked how the game felt.

Dragon Quest XI - feels damn sweet.

All this while also streaming a TV show on my xiaomi box.

Excited Jackie GIF by Cyberpunk 2077

Spent about five hours on it now, and it’s growing on me.

My advice - temper your expectations. This is a banal thing to say, but it is exactly what it claims to be; a dual sense tacked onto an average streaming screen.

It’s about £50 too expensive, but the features are fun and it works for casual gaming. But it’s not replacing your PS5 in the way that for certain people the Steamdeck is better than a desktop.

7/10.

Happy overall. Playing Lies of P and I’ve got no noticeable input lag at all (I’m on a fiber connection) and it works great.

The audio though is often hitchy, anyone else experiencing this?

I think he means multiple profiles on the PS5. When connecting with Portal do you switch then using the device not actually on it.
th4tguy th4tguy you know, I really didn't think it mattered what profile was authed to the Portal but when im logged out of my PS5 (just tested with a test account) it automatically logs into the PS5 with the account that's logged into the portal.

My thought was, why does it matter if a parent is logged into the Portal, as a remote function, then whomever could be logged into the PS5.

If you log out of the PS5, it logs you out of the portal. They have to log into the Portal.

My TV that has energy saving mode on and automatically shuts down my PS5 simultaneously when I'm playing on PS Portal:

One question though, is there a solution to replace the thumbsticks only should they wear down?
None currently, though if it becomes an issue I'm sure an after market solution will present itself.

Turn HDMI-CEC off on your TV settings. Now your TV can't control your PS5. Problem solved.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Still can't believe this piece of shit is real in 2023 :messenger_tears_of_joy:

None of it makes any fucking sense. I've bought most every gaming handheld since the 80's, every single one was bought to be taken out and about. This thing, you need 5Mbps wherever you go AND need your PS5 on at home?

What even, why though?

Can it be hacked is the only sensible question at this point.

Maybe I'm too old, maybe not. No, this shit would still bug me in my twenties. I just don't get it!

It's so pointless! Sony should be up there with Valve and Nintendo in the handheld space, they had an excellent handheld with the Vita for christ sake, not doing this pointless shit.

Utter waste of material, money and time.
My theory is this is for some social experiment

Got mine in, works flawlessly. As others say, occasional resolution drop but rarely. It feels and looks top tier. Man, Sony really knows how to design high end electronics.

Plan on using it mostly in evening on the couch while kids are watching TV, on vacations so I don’t have to lug my vita or switch around and keep up with game cards, and the occasional trophy boosting with friends.

Yeah, I’m a trophy whore.

can the PS5 not remain in rest mode while I play or is it going to boot up every time I connect the portal?
