I have two version of PAL FF8, normal and the platinum release, neither work on my PS3. The only PS1 game I know that doesn't.
Yeah, same here. PAL.

Just tried now. Doesn't work.

FF8 PAL version doesn't work on PS3? noooo! I'll try it myself later and see :(

They could always release it as PSP only tho.

FF8 can't be played in BC mode. If they were to do a PS Store release they would have to wrap it in a custom emulator of some sort.

Same thing with Chrono Cross, unfortunately. I really want this to be released on PSN.

Platinum - England

Really ? A friend told me it didn't work, a while ago.
Maybe they fixed it in one of the latest firmwares.

Or maybe it's the french version that still crashes.
We still don't have FF7 because of a bug in the french version, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same for FF8.

They should release Chrono Cross in the PAL region via PSN at last.

Little to no chance to happen.

I just saw that Silet Hill have been released in the Euro PSN but for some reason I cant find it on my PSN store (Sweden).

I had the same problem a few months ago with DLC for the Naruto game but I didnt really care enough to look in to it.

I know that some contet is different depending on where in europe you live. But I just went to the Swedish PSN site and they advertised Silent Hill game there so why cant I find it??

Anyone know the answer?

Now I'm really angry.

60GB model?

Yup always has worked on my original 60GB and when I got it replaced last September, apart from a minor graphics glitch when a random battle happens, it's working fine.

I've forgotten how much I lurv the intro.

Might depend on the games retail number or whatever it's called, my copy is a SLES-02080

Gunstar Heroes was outstanding; I had never played it before. It felt a little easy (I used follow/laser the whole time) and took me one hour to complete but I really wish I had played it back in the day. The last level and how it was viewed is awesome!

Comet Crash patch details

First, you will notice the new Video Record feature. You can now record gameplay videos to the hard drive or upload directly to your YouTube™ account. Comet Crash games can be incredibly unique, so I’m looking forward to seeing your videos. In addition, we added country flags to the scoreboard. You’ll have to beat your existing score to get a flag up there. Notice that scores with flags stand out amongst the others, so get them while they’re hot!

2nd edit: LOL. September in Europe? What the hell. I feel good about buying it in April now on my US account.

This version that works will only work for disc 1&2, but disc 3 didn't work for me, So I transferred my safe on a ps1 mc and continued on the ps2.

I also have another copy of FFVIII, and this one absolutely doesn't work even though it's the same code and platinium as well.

PAL 60GB ps3 owner too.

Kotaku posted a link to a game article on reevaluating FF8, and it seems like an interesting read so far. Downside is automatically knowing how various members of GAF would react to certain scenes in the game while reading the article :/

I read it earlier, it was an interesting read, though I don't agree with it completely it was interesting to reminisce a bit, it's been a couple of years since I played it at all. Certain scenes are pretty bad, but I might dig out the PC version tomorrow and give it a go if I can get it running.

E3 Report parts B and C on JPSN. These are kind of interesting to watch. Part C has a bunch of booth footage and whatnot.

No one has mentioned Pain is getting a blu-ray release in PAL regions? Includes all the DLC. Out next week for €24.99/£19.99/AU$39.95.

Various FF8 not working stuff
My PAL version of FFVIII works flawlessly.
It depends on which PAL version you people have. Mine is the italian one, and has no problems.
Going with this site some PAL versions don't work (mine is missing from the site, SLES-02083).

You know, its a shame. I can't help but wonder what each of the PS1 FF games would have been like if the writing was better. Reading the article again, I'm reminded of the scenes at the
orphanage, the moment we learn that Seifer "died,"
, and everything else inbetween, and just how amazingly blunt and disjointed everything sort of was. I think that during my playthrough in which I beat the game, I stopped paying attention to the story and really only enjoyed it for the combat system and the card game.

I mean, fuck, I COMPLETELY forgot
that Laguna was Squall's father
until I read that article. Maybe I have GFs equipped or something :S

It don't really care about FF7, but it bothers me that FFT, and presumably, the rest of the PSX FFs, will be released as they are, without any sort of retranslation.

However, if FF4DS was a sign of anything, I look forward to voicework efforts in proceeding remakes, and much like FFX, I hope to hear Squall's narrating voice instead of text.

One last thing I took away from the article: Someone could seriously create an abridged version of the entire FF8 experience into a 3 hour movie, but w/ serious reworking all over the place. Possibly 2 movies (or hell, just a 4-5 hour experience).

I can't believe how much I forgot about FF8, which is kind of ironic, since its my favorite PSX FF. As the writer of the article said, the Balamb garden comes off as a cozy, welcoming place, which strictly contrasts against the opening of FF7 with Midgar and the slums. I remember getting to disc 3 during my original playthrough before stopping after getting lost, because it was just that compelling. I didn't really like Laguna and gang, but still.

it also shows that DD dont work in some (most?) areas of the world. They will probably do this with more and more PSN releases.

I have a feeling Wipeout HD will get a blu-ray release in Europe after the DLC. I think SCEE should do the PixelJunk Collection like SCEJ did.
