Remote play is there.

Play as you download
This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. The time it takes to begin playing will vary depending on game data size and network environments, and not all titles will support this feature When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.
Man you're right, I never read about that here....mostly because it was being yelled from the rooftops
Even my WiiU patched when I first installed it
Don't blu-ray players need constant updates for encryption keys and what not?
Updated firmware is, or at least was an issue, on the PS3 as well. My cousin bought a movie on BD, popped it in his PS3, and was told it required a FW update to play. He ended up hauling his PS3 over to my house to be updated, but it only ever happened that once.
I'm not sure if this affects standalone BD players as well, since I've never owned one.
WHAT R THEY HIDIN'So a lot of the features they, re advertising the Ps4 with, are not included in 1.0?
Apparently, the Xbone is delivered with a stub os only - I would expect their Day One Patch to be much more massive.
Thanks, but this is still pretty poor form mate, Bluray and DVD needing internet activation? That's not good enough.
Game discs have firmware on them.
Launch day for both consoles is going suck. First you download the patch. Then you install an entire game. Eugh.
hey, not my fault![]()
And here comes a wave of bad PS4 news.
Pretty disappointing to hear. Hopefully none of the promised features end up not coming at all, like party chat with the PS3.
Gonna hold off a year or two until I touch any next-generation console.
Are they implying you can't put music on the HDD and listen to it in-game?
What year is this?
That's true, but I remember Nintendo having a major problem with the Wii U update on release day and around Christmas.. and something tells me 20million Wii U's weren't sold![]()
Some features will not be available at launch, such as suspend/resume mode which is a feature that keeps the PS4 system in a low power state and promptly takes users back to their game.
Remember that manufacturing started in July so the RTM firmware is probably just "functional" in a sense that the console will turn on and be able to connect to a network and download the latest firmware update from Sony's servers.
Doing it this way gives the OS development team three months of extra time to polish and add features before certifying it in early November.
What the hell? No. You can buy a $60 name-brand BD player and never take it online, ever.
.
This is very concerning

I just hope we can export our videos to edit on our computers. Or has this been discussed?
Plus Xbone does NOT work without the patch, PS4 works just fine. The difference is huge.
So nobody is discussing how Sony already has basic UI navigation through voice using the PS Camera and that it also works without the camera using a headset unlike the competition?
I doubt any games will have THIS firmware on though. Since they'll be working on it right up until a launch where every launch game should be Gold by now.
And I can't wait for the list of day 1 patches for all the games on both machines too.

Background music player
Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here.

Do you remember the PS3 launch? They didn't even have the ability to check messages ready for launch.
Most of that stuff is basic features that you would expect to be there from the start. You seriously can't watch DVD or Blu-Ray movies without first downloading a firmware update? No suspend/resume is a huge disappointment too.
Kinda shows how rushed these consoles are. Three weeks from launch and we're learning about all these "gotchas"
Facebook video and images are dog shit. Actually, that's an insult to dog shit.
They have terrible compression.
Thanks, but this is still pretty poor form mate, Bluray and DVD needing internet activation? That's not good enough.
I wasn't. They removed it and I respect that.
It still has little to do with Sony not clarifying on this.
I can live with the music thing if I can add my own beats to it. If not then I won't be using custom music much on PS4 since I have a ton of paid content already but on through Music Unlimited.
The suspend/resume thing is not something I am losing sleep over as long as it comes.
I just hope we can export our videos to edit on our computers. Or has this been discussed?
Then what on Earth was included in the 1.0 firmware?

Da fuq is going on with this topic.

It's sad that people are missing this point. With the amount of stuff that these systems can do at launch, I'd much rather have a polished and function OS at launch wtih a day one patch instead of whatever they had when the system went to when it was produced or having the system delayed specifcally because they had to wait for the OS team to opitimize their code and tweak the UI.
My guess is that a lot of these functions were in a workable state when production began but wanted to leave them out of the launch consoles because they were either still buggy and/or not up to quality standards Sony set for themselves regarding the UI.
