PlayStation4 FW 1.5 details

But you can on ps3 with some games. Im seriously about to cancel this pre-order. Fuck ps4 if you cannot play with your own music in the BG.
I think it's IMPOSSIBLE that background music will be behind a paywall, it's such a basic feature But if it's true i'll gladly take your preoder ;)

well youtube not explicitly mentioned worries me.

Uploading only to twitter and facebook renders the feature essentialy useless to me as i have no such accounts and wount make them just for this.

Give youtube login Sony!

ya, weird YouTube isn't in there being YouTube is the default service on PS3.

Hopefully that means they added Facebook for video uploads and that YouTube already exists.

vita custom soundtracks works differently than on ps3. ps3 required developers to support it. it's a basic feature on vita. i would seriously not worry until they say one way or the other. it would make no sense to not let you use your own music when you can do it on vita and xbox one.

Well to be fair it's not really minimal, and I also wouldn't describe it as optional. If you just want to play games then fine. If you want to do pretty much anything else you need this update.

I would hope so LOL

Every console has an update at launch. Y'all acting brand new and having an outrage tho.

Just curious, do people actually use background players on their consoles? There was a time when I streamed some podcasts to my xbox, but I've never installed anything to the harddrive or really dabbled into that too much.

Also, if I did want to play music/podcasts nowadays, I have a phone that is more than capable of streaming that stuff right next to me.

It requires more than 210 3.5" floppy disks, that huge.

Wait... They can't be stupid enough to prevent you from playing your own music in-game, can they? Doesn't the Vita allow you to do this?

Wait....how can people be surprised about that??? The consoles have been in manufacturing since august... Of course the OS was not ready 100% at that point. Both consoles will need all the time available to get the OS finalized. That's just normal.

It's the exact same reason we have day 1 patches on games nowadays. They have to cert and manufacture the games at least a month in advance, that leaves them time to iron out the last couple of issues before release.

There are two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users.

Wait, does this mean we can ONLY watch PS4 stream with the Twitch app on the PS4?

That's weird if true. Hopefully it's not.

Not read the whole thing and it'll likely have been covered already.

Ripping your own music tracks and playing them over games is unlikely at the moment as the PS4 can't play Audio CDs. There may be other ways of getting music on there though.

So nobody is discussing how Sony already has basic UI navigation through voice using the PS Camera and that it also works without the camera using a headset unlike the competition?

Pretty neat feature, really cool.

But everyone here is acting like they never seen a Day 1 update for anything they ever purchased.

I feel like moving media onto the box is last gen thinking. You should be able to just find your media server on your network and stream that way. It was done well on 360 because the firmware had the APIs to mute the music soundtrack automatically. That's a better solution assuming you can stream over network.

I'd be surprised, since it'be been on Vita since the start.

Exactly. I think it's just bad wording. They want to promote Music Unlimited of course, but the PR made it sound like it is exclusive to Music Unlimited.

Even the Vita let's you hear your own mp3s ffs.

Well, here comes the Sony bad news. I had a feeling this was too beautiful to be true.

But 300MB isn't much, if their servers are ok and that's a big if, then it shouldn't take me more than 5 minutes.

And if i understand right, no custom soundtracks in 2013 ? This is ridiculous ! I don't care about Music Unlimited and never will so no custom soundtracks is a major letdown to me.

Does Microsoft have a patent on custom soundtracks or it's Sony who suck so much at software ? or both ?

And no suspend... wow, ok then i should be patient in this transition to next-gen...

So its official: all 3 consoles this gen require a day one patch. Nothing is ready out of the box anymore. Welcome to the future.

That's assuming this day 1 patch has all their necessary security fixes when the reality is someone discovers this shit outside of Sony after day 1.

Hacks can even be done via games (see Wii + PSP), I know others could still exist just saying they maybe want to hide something they found in 1.0

It sucks that people without internet will not be able to watch DVDs or Blu-rays. Maybe Sony should consider having DVDs pre-installed with firmware 1.5 for those individuals that can be requested?

Announced features always slip from the console launches, both will happen this time with PS4 [suspend/resume] and Xbone [external storage support].

Im getting my PS4 in mid december, by then there will be few minor fixes for both consoles.

Firmwares were included with PS3 game blurays.

Don't see why they don't just include a firmware disc in the console box. Unless it can't read the dam thing without the update in the first place...

It's 300MB. I know, not exactly huge by any stretch of the imagination, but are you confident that you'll be able to quickly download the update on launch day? Are you confident that it'll go smoothly without a hitch? Previous experience suggests not, but we'll see I guess.

Dude, calm the fuck down and wait for confirmation.

PS3 lets you do it in some game (developer need to take that into consideration).
Vita lets you do it in a OS level.

Why would PS4 background music player be locked behind a paywall when almost everything is not?

I guess it's a testament to how well Sony have been doing as opposed to MS that this is their biggest misstep so far and it isn't as huge as it could have been. Still, you better be able to play your own music in the background otherwise people are gonna be livid.

no sleep mode at launch ?

I'm not too surprised about the updates, they manufacture these machines long before their software is ready these days.

But some of the updates that are either coming or aren't there at all worry me about what the system is actually going to do, one if the big things for me was suspend/low power mode for when I suddenly have to go do something else, I'm really shocked that isn't there day 1.

Considering the mess they made with the XMB for the PS3 over the years I really hope Sony have sorted out their software team this time.

What would be pretty convenient is allow users to download the update on a USB stick beforehand, that way we don't have to wait as long to get it started...

Don't see why they don't just include a firmware disc in the console box. Unless it can't read the dam thing without the update in the first place...

Because the software wasn't ready the day the PS4s were manufactured and packaged. If it was, it would have just been loaded onto the consoles themselves.

This gives the OS team the time between the consoles needing finished software to ship with, and the official consumer launch day to work on the software.
