PlayStation4 FW 1.5 details

A patch is a "gotcha"? Really now? No suspend/resume sucks, but wow some of you must be on 56k or something.

Only problem might be Sonys server...

You have to admit, this past gen Sony has conditioned many of us to fear their downloads. PSN has been absolutely dreadful for me all generation.

Im hoping for a patch that can be downloaded and loaded by USB... This rules out any unlikely event that the servers are flooded, not to mention some people will be instantly pulling out the harddrive for replacement.

Hopefully a few of you American dudes can dummy run an SSD drive for me, the least you guys can do while you gloat for 2 weeks prior to our EU launch.,

...hm nothing new. Sony will always suck at this.

What a joke, having to update your console on the day of a purchase lol.

MS will always crush them at this

Xbone will also require a day one patch. They all do so just stop.

One thing I'm bummed out about is the suspend mode. That was what I was really looking forward to. Next gen canceled.

Bullshit is what it is. But I think we already knew this awhile ago.

I guess I'll have to play my music through my receiver and surround speakers and my game audio through my TV when I want to listen to my own stuff.

We might be getting ahead of ourselves here. For all we know custom soundtracks from you HDD are already available in 1.0 and this just lets you use Music Unlimited as well.

Multi log-in
A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multiplayer game together on a single PS4 system.

It's nice to have confirmation on this, though they might need plus as well so they can use their own save data.

Very disappointed in the missing suspend feature. It's one of the best things about Vita and one of the reasons I play it so much more than my PS3. If I have a quick 10 minutes to play in the house, turning the PS3 on and getting into a game takes a huge chunk out of that, on Vita I'm playing where I left off in 1 second.

people need to chill out. they're specifically stating that music unlimited background listening will be enabled with the patch, since it's actually a feature some people want. it's available on vita too. they aren't going to let you listen to your own music on vita and not on ps4. it looks like they're saying it's a feature added to the background music player, not that music unlimited is the only background music player.

But you can on ps3 with some games. Im seriously about to cancel this pre-order. Fuck ps4 if you cannot play with your own music in the BG.

I'm just surprised how some people are surprised at day one patches.

(...and are worried about 300mb to download)

Also, at this point, cancelling pre-orders is silly. Speaking honestly, your cancelled pre-order at this point isn't a loss to Sony at all. Both consoles are going to sell out this year.

I doubt Microsoft will ever give a list for the day one patch, because they've already said it's got to happen to even use the console.

But of course they're doing the exact same thing as Sony. These OS's are being finished right now, so there is no way they could be included with hardware that was manufactured a couple months ago.

As ftwbbq or whatever his name is said, I agree.

Seeing people completely lose their shit at the background music thing really makes me wonder if MS was maybe right, after all.

That would be smart just release it a couple of days before launch. They still release downloads for PS3 Firmwares don't they?

I wouldn't be surprised if Music Unlimited is the only way to listen to custom soundtracks, at least initially. That's synergy! The "One Sony" strategy in action!

Background music player
Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here.

I know what these words mean. I hope whoever wrote it doesn't. From this, it sounds like custom soundtracks are only supported through the paid "Music Unlimited" service. That would be unfortunate.

I might ive never said those words before. It depends on my money situation but if i cant listen to my own music in the background it really is almost enough to cancel my pre-order. If the damn 360 can do it why cant ps4? Fucking clueless mofos.

Vizzeh how am i trolling? I was really looking forward to ps4 launch. I dont give a shit about face and voice recognition. I want basic features like listen to your own music and the deep suspend feature Cerny talked about it like it was a hardware feature. Fuckers.

I feel your frustration dude! I'm hyped as hell for PS4 release on 29 November but stuff like background music while playing games should be there from the start.
I don't want to pay for that shitty Music Unlimited. I have my own HQ music collection, damn you Sony!

I can play my own music in the background on the original Xbox... yeah, the 1, not just the 360. Fix this shit ASAP Sony.

Vita also has suspend mode. Assume nothing.

If they do another $12/year deal on Music Unlimited for Plus Members I will gladly re-up. Otherwise, no.

biggest problem for me is I am so engrained into the apple ecosystem..

hey Sony!!! Release a PS4 app that enables AirPlay and charge $1000 for it!!! (no, like $5-10). I would buy that in a second and just stream from my iPad or iPhone.

Strangely enough, I don't remember this being a big issue last gen with MS. Their featureset was basically done right at the start. They are truly having a clusterfuck of a launch.

I don't understand how this surprises anyone. At least the update is small.

Suspend not being there is definitely a bummer though since that was touted from the beginning.

Joke Post? MS require a day one update to play games offline don't they?

EDIT: leaving browser open, then replying to a post 4 pages earlier...priceles

For people complaining that this should have been on the OS from the start, if Sony decided to launch in December, or even January, would have been better?

Not defending or anything. Just curious.

I just want clarification on the music stuff. The rest is okay by me.

Presumably everyone crying about a 300mb day 1 patch have never built a PC and installed Windows and Office from scratch...I migrated a PC from XP to W7/Office2013 yesterday and until I'd downloaded 31 W7 updates and 2 machine restarts I couldn't get Worde to open a Word file.

Or - less drastically - bought an iPhone.

Seriously, get over yourselves. The FW flashed into the consoles will have been finished month ago and will be enough to get them running; all the bells & whistles take time, especially for testing, and as with most new digital things when you get them boxfresh (instead of having a shop or someone else do the install work) you're looking at at least an hour of faff to get up and running.

I think it's just saying that the update enables background music playing through the service. I imagine background music was ready built in and doesn't need an update.

Lots of "outrage" here guys.

When you're manufacturing product months in advance you can't always get all the features of a firmware into the systems due to things still being in development to the last minute. They're shipped with a basic firmware. It's the way things work.

I think the only valid thing to be upset about is the suspend/resume thing.

Also, maybe the Music Unlimited thing they mention is just the app that is needed to play background music. Maybe it gives you the option to play Music Unlimited music as well as your own, personal local music.

300MB won't take long but so many vital features are behind this firmware. Kind of weird.

They may have done this on purpose, if 1.0 was found with serious security flaws/easy way to jailbreak then they will want as many people to update straight away as possible to close these holes up

Unbelievably bad of Sony to not have the touted sleep/resume mode working by launch. Let's hope it doesn't take an eternity until it's implemented...

That's not a bad idea. 3rd party apps have been made to support AirPlay. Double Twist for android is a 3rd party itunes (since there is no itunes for android) and AirPlay works on that. Hopefully they do that.

I can't imagine they'll make the same mistake they did with the PSP

exactly xbox 1 can even do it lololol.

well youtube not explicitly mentioned worries me.

Uploading only to twitter and facebook renders the feature essentialy useless to me as i have no such accounts and wount make them just for this.

Give youtube login Sony!

Ugh, that's basically 90% of the system's networking features. I thought they were more committed to avoiding these situations... This being a day 1 updates is not only a bad first impression, but it's strongly reminds me of how terribly updates and installs were on the PS3. I'll give them this one as free pass though...

Some features will not be available at launch, such as “suspend/resume mode” which is a feature that keeps the PS4 system in a low power state and promptly takes users back to their game.

Hrmmm, serious bummer.

Thank you America for beta testing the launch for us.

I'm surprised that suspend is not available at launch, especially with how it ties into the remote play experience.

play ps4- suspend - sometime later - resume on vita - suspend.

Ah the first of many OS patches...You do realise this is the price we pay for Bleeding Edge Launch adopters!!

Nothing new here, the Basic OS shipped with the console would have been done and stable about 6 months ago, this way the team can be even finishing this off now in Testing (although highly likely 1.50 is locked and loaded) and still get it ready for launch day... X1 will be exactly the same people!!

Move along, move along!!

That's assuming this day 1 patch has all their necessary security fixes when the reality is someone discovers this shit outside of Sony after day 1.

I find it hilarious that such a minimal optional update is the only negative about PS4

Slay a bit Sony

Well to be fair it's not really minimal, and I also wouldn't describe it as optional. If you just want to play games then fine. If you want to do pretty much anything else, you need this update.
