OK double posting to state that you can get Critter Chronicles for $10.40 if you use this code in GMG:
WINTR-SRVEY-42012
Thanks to earvcunanan for linking to it.
Also my PnC collection...which is missing The Dig =/

Ah man i got that same exact Grim Fandango case sittin here on my shelf, it's such a bitch to get it running properly on W7 64 bit though :( Steam or GOG release really needs to happen some day

The Critter Chronicles doesn't have proper 16:9 support, just like the first game. Very lazy on the part of the developers.

The last time I played Grim Fandango was last year with Windows 7 (64) using Residual and only had a single crash. Residual has supposedly improved since then. I'd say it's worth a shot, just make sure to save often.

If you also own The Dig I will bow down before your grace.

I can't get past Rubacava's intro in Residual with my copy, but I've not heard of anyone else ever having this problem.

Thanks... i checked the site but the compatibility is at 80% hmm not sure what that means.

Anyway i am not in the mood to try and get it running again, last time i spent WAY too much time with no results :( plus when i finally thought i had it running i ran into widescreen/ratio issues because of my 16:19 monitor and i finally gave up!

There was also a Grim Launcher. I played it fine on W7-64bit mind a few hickups here and there.

ah crap i am falling JUST short of grace then :(

Note that i DO own the Dig but only the dirty peasant's version on Steam lol

As for Grim Fandango, i decided NOT to give ResidualVM a try right now since i was browsing their forums and some people DID have a couple graphical issues/bugs with it later on during the game, i'd rather not take the chance, but let's just say i will keep it in the back of my head for the day in 10 years when i realize that the game will STILL not be released in any DD form ;)

Did you have any ratio issues?

Why would you have an aspect ratio problem in any version? You can always set your video card to not scale. You'll get black borders and everything but it won't be stretched.

*I can't play the original non-Residual release in fullscreen since it screws around with my controller or something, I forget. So I'm stuck with awful, awful windowed mode. Residual displays correctly but it had some audio popping a few months back and I haven't tried it since.

Eh you're still cool in my book-

My we both have fortune smile upon us and be graced with a disc copy of The Dig.

Yeah i think if i remember correctly i had some issues with some widescreen patch or something, but then even there there was no 16:9 resolution, only a 16:10 fix!

Black bars would suck but better than stretched i suppose, i will look into the options menu of my card though.

That fist actually fits mine pretty damn well, i tried ;)

Oh so you don't have one either then? It's ok though, before wasting my luck on the disc copy of the Dig, i'd rather use it on something i don't own yet at ALL like finally finding a copy of Suikoden II for an affordable price or something similar :(

The Sea Will Claim Everything is 42% off for the rest of November.

Easily my adventure GOTY (if Primordia isn't goddamn mindblowing).
That's my game of the year. Really, really enjoyed it.
this might seriously be my favorite adventure game of this generation, and I wouldn't have checked it out if it weren't for your comments. it's humorous, delightfully intelligent/witty, and strangely political and philosophical. I love clicking on literally everything presented to me on the screen and finding all the hidden jokes. The only negative is that the puzzles are mostly fetch quests.

I actually hadn't even heard about TSWCE until I read your replies, and now that I see it on steam greenlight I've been trying to promote it as much as possible so I can have a steam version too (it deserves to be greenlit).

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93006822
I asked Jonas how the greenlight process is going so far, and he said "Not too well, to be honest. Lots of people love the game, but it's somewhat difficult to get the sort of attention Greenlight requires with as unusual a game. And I'm generally better at making games than at selling them. "

Checked out the page for the sea will claim everything and i greenlit it, i liked the music, but honestly the looks are kind of putting me off even for an oldschool adventure title, i mean is it JUST pictures? Is there movement/animation in them? You really can't tell by the video even which just shows still pictures...

This might sound shallow but my brain IS attracted to pretty animations and graphics and details like water moving even if it's just a little in adventure games. Or trees swaying in the wind etc. I always hated adventure games that featured stale, static backgrounds even when beautifully handdrawn it kinda takes me out of the experience... though i suppose i MIGHT overcome these "flaws" even if intentional if the story/characters/world is fascinating enough.

So yeah, how about this one then?

everything is still and it's basically all paintings created in paint. When you press the move arrow, you move to a new screen. there's no voiceovers or anything fancy like that.. it's literally just music and paintings. What's pretty cool, is that some screens literally have 100+ items you can interact with, and each one has it's own personal description.

i.e. (from some of the screenshots I took - just some throwaway descriptions and dialogue)

Thanks for the info... Hmm not sure i like the fact that literally everything is still ;) but yeah i am still kind of intrigued i guess. Just how many votes does a game need in order to get greenlit?

actually not too sure - tho I know Primordia got greenlit and I don't imagine that it would have gotten an insane amount of votes.

Well Primordia got a lot of votes on GAF alone i imagine, since it has been hyped a lot in a couple threads here now...

But back to your Sea game ;) it even says in that last picture you posted "this is a pic of..." so the game blatantly admits that you are just seeing everything in "pictures"? Is that some kind of awareness gimmick then or even WANTED? Do not spoil anything, i am just a little curious though now ;)

you learn this at the very intro of the game - probably within the first 5 or 10 minutes - but I'll spoilers it anyways
They refer to you as an outsider, but you're playing yourself (literally "you" in real life) looking through a portal (this might be a reference to your computer but I think they're referring to the actual game's screen because of the way you can interact with the buttons on your viewing port) to The Land of Dreams. The portal allows you to help out and interact with the "denizens" and all of the other items in their world

Good to know someone else on here enjoyed it as much as I did. Being able to click on every mushroom and other little things on each screen was so much fun and I loved all the little replies or noises you'd get. Shame it's not doing too well on Greenlight but it doesn't surprise me. :-(

It's just still pictures. It's become my favorite game of the year and this is something I wrote about it awhile back in a different thread:

I've played this adventure twice this week and it has become my personal game of the year. As far as adventure games go, there isn't much to this one. It revolves around collecting items and giving them to the right person so you can get another item for something else as well as quite a bit of exploring. But the area the game really shines is in its story. Debt, foreclosure, and socialism are just some of the subjects that the game is about. The characters are wonderful and really feel alive despite being made up of fantasy creatures, for the most part. A lot of them are relatable and I really felt like I understood what they were going through, probably because the story and what everyone is going through is supposed to mirror our own reality in some ways. It's just an overall touching game to me. Oh, and the look of the game is beautiful as well.

Thanks to Dog Problems for recommending The Sea Will Claim Everything, picked it up recently and it really does feel special. First 10 mins of the game, I was smiling ear to ear at the small pieces of dialogue. You can click on SO many things and get a description, also the music was really nice too a pleasure to listen to. I'm looking forward to playing more when I get my PC room back, damn guests!
To me it feels like an olde school adventure, plenty of story and dialogue to take in and read, plants you directly into the world, characters and story.

I'm more of a lurker in this thread, but after buying The Sea Will Claim Everything and having played it for half an hour I need to thank you guys that recommended it. Really great game to unwind at the end of a crazy day at work. The text descriptions of the objects and dialogues are all inspired and well humored. Love the look and the music. It's a simple game (at least for now) with a simple unpretentious presentation and that was really what I was looking for right now. So, thank you again. ;) I'll back off now again to my lurker position.

A New Beginning - Final cut will be released today on Steam. I'd say it's ok at best. Nice art, amateurish animations, decent voice work, lackluster story. flat characters, tiresome puzzles. Hard to recommend, but I am not a fan of Daedalic.

Not sure what the "Final cut" refers to though.

I don't know why I put off buying The Sea Will Claim Everything for so long. But this thread reminded me and I now own it. I'd still like a Steam key, though.

The demo is what put me over the edge. Specifically, the combination of great music and the fact that there are literally dozens of throwaway observational comments on each screen. I love adventure games with a lot of LOOK hotspots!

Glad to see that The Sea Will Claim Everything is finally catching on in this thread!

I didn't mind the focus on fetch quests too much, because IMHO they fit the game's underlying theme of solidarity.

Does anyone play point-and-click adventures on the TV while sitting on their couch? I was thinking of buying this bad boy to do that:

Hey, do anyone have anything nice to say about Jack Orlando? $2.99 on GOG at the moment, a bit tempting but might be crap for all I know.

Sorry mate, all i could find about it is this http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/18045

They are generally pretty competent adventure game reviewers and apparently the game looks pretty decent but plays pretty badly so i guess i'd stay away from it unless someone else pops up here with a great impression ;)

So the Sierra Quest games are the daily deal on gog.com atm, you can get all the Quest titles for $20!
However I don't want to get all of them: I mainly want Quest for Glory, Police Quest and King's Quest 4-6. I can get the VGA versions of 1-3 from a site I remember.
Do the Space Quest collections include the VGA ver. or is that in Steam only?

Some of them are brutal without a guide. If you're okay using a guide, you should have fun.

King's Quest VI is to this day one of the very best point-and-click adventures. The compilation is worth the price for that title alone.

I also remember PQ3 and 4 to be pretty amazing in terms of story and atmosphere, but I can't remember how difficult they are. I do remember that 3 has a potential cruel, game-ending situation where if you didn't do something early in the game, you get fucked at the very end.

I have almost no interest in Police Quest, and the crazy procedural stuff you have to follow kept me away when I tried playing them over the years. There are also a lot of miss-this-item-in-the-beginning-and-you-can't-beat-the-game points.

Similarly, I've always found King's Quest bland with the exception of King's Quest 6 (which is worth playing even now.) It's possible that 5 is also good but oh god those voices are awful.

Space Quest is still pretty great although I would suggest that you go with the VGA version of SQ1 and the VGA fan remake of SQ2. SQ3 may not have the snazzy mouse interface or the 256 colors of later releases but it's still one of the best adventure games around.

Quest for Glory aged like fine wine simply because there aren't many other adventure game\RPG hybrids.

And yeah, no one will look down on you for checking a guide from time to time. Sierra games just aren't as player-friendly as the Lucasarts stuff!

Been writing a few things for the 2013 thread, mostly up and coming games and ones that weren't released this year. I'm going to try and cover more and keep track of them all better. Mobile, Greenlight, PC Major Releases, Sales and of course Kickstarter.
Was thinking of thread title and one stuck in my head, although I keep altering it.

Point 'n Click Adventure GAF 2013 - Walk to Games. Examine Games. Pick up Games. Play Games on device. Talk about Games.

Or maybe themed styles.

Point 'n Click Adevnture GAF 2013 Three Headed Monkey Edition.
Point 'n Click Adevnture GAF 2013 Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game.

Whatever looks best and suggestions are always welcome.
Just bought The Cat Lady after giving the demo a try and quite enjoy the creepiness of it all. Alas it's very late and I shall start it tomorrow.
Worth a look on the site as there is a demo on there and it has reviewed well via Adventure Gamers Review

@Family Fry, I personally like these 2:
Three Headed Monkey Edition.

Walk to Games. Examine Games. Pick up Games. Play Games. Talk about Games.
^Editted it to make shorter and fit the limit for a thread title...even though I get what you meant by 'on device'.
