Point & Click adventures in 2012. Best so far, the kickstarters and the future.

he he, yea. I mean if you pick it up for a few bucks and don't mind goofy looking characters its not that bad. It's an interesting setting.

I'm looking forward to Secret Files 3 though, I'll be honest there.

Also fans of Sci-fi should really check out The Immortals of Terra: A Perry Rhodan. A few years old but though I'd mention it in the most active genre thread right now. Great universe, well-made point and click that is one of my favorites:

I believe GameFly has it digital. Though it's cheaper boxed if you can find it on Amazon or in a shop.
I need to come back and thank you for this recommendation. My PC game radar has been broken and I missed this title. Played for 3 hours last night and that's the most I've played a PC game in forever. So, thank you!

PS: Are there any more adventure games sine 2008 like this? With a a rich world and great art?

Edit: And I got it for $4 delivered to my home. Amazon Prime. Wonderful, wonderful purchase.
Perry is one of the best point and clicks in years. Beat it twice. Loved it even the second time through.
Feels good to read positive impressions of a game I've worked on (even if it was in a small capacity). ^^

Deponia Giant Bomb QL

Voice acting seems ok, but Daedalic have some amazing artists. Anyone know any details about them, team size, are they publisher or developer, etc?
They're developer and publisher. On Linkedin the company has only 10 employees listed, I'm sure they're more... >
Daedalic Entertainment publishes and develops high-quality online and offline games, with a strong focus on engaging narratives and compelling characters.

Based in beautiful Hamburg, Daedalic is one of Germany’s most acclaimed and decorated publishers and developers, garnering numerous awards for adventure game milestones Edna & Harvey: The Breakout, The Whispered World and A New Beginning. In its internal studio, Daedalic is currently developing a host of new and innovative games that include the upcoming english versions of Deponia, The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav and Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes, as well as several unannounced titles for PC, mobile devices, social networks and the browser.

As an active publisher of third-party content, Daedalic has released outstanding and unique games like Machinarium, Tales of Monkey Island, Gemini Rue and will release Torchlight II, with a growing portfolio of excellent titles scheduled for 2012 and beyond.
Daedalic is also active as a consulting agency in a number of fields, including business development, marketing and PR, as well as the production of serious games.

Daedalic employs around 70 people right now and they usually have two larger projects going on at one time (as developers).

All the dubbing and sound stuff is outsourced.

Since they added an extra scene to the BASS re-mastered there had always been rumours they were going to revisit it. Sure Dave Gibbons expressed interest and said he would do it when they could both sit down and he could still contribute the art.
Would love it if BASS 2 appeared one day, it's firmly up there for me personally, game and story stuck with me.
Maybe BASS 2 kickstarter in 2013, 2014 release just in time for it's 20th Anniversary, would be fitting.

$400,000 goal, Saturday Sep 22 ends.

When a mysterious painting is stolen during an armed raid on a Paris gallery, George and Nico are thrown by chance into the investigation together. From Paris to London and beyond, the trail becomes a race against time as dark forces from Europe's turbulent past are woken from their slumber. Broken Sword characters old and new are encountered - but who can George and Nico trust? The journey they are on reveals a conspiracy as old as the written word, whose ancient heresies will cause innocent blood to spill once more...

Broken Sword - the Serpent's Curse (Kickstarter) NeoGaf OT

After 2 days they have reached $211k, half of their target, just under 5,000 people have backed it too. Surely there will be more?
Wonder what they will think about adding if they overshoot the $400k target?

I've got to agree on Perry Rhodan. Probably the last adventure i've played that made a good impression on me. After finishing the game, i remember being excited for further games in the universe but sadly it seems all development has stopped.

It's been a while since i played it, but iirc the game looked fantastic at times. I loved the sci-fi setting and the atsmophere.

Maybe you, or anyone else can help me then!

I just bought the game thanks to the recommendations here, but I can't seem to play the game. I install it just fine (Windows 7 64), but when I try to start it it says "you need to run it as admin the fist time" (or something like that anyway). Of course I am admin, but even if I right-click and chose "run as admin" it says the same thing. Turns out it's a problem with TAGES (fucking copy protection I' m telling ya). So I have to manually download this pos sofware to make the game get one step further. Problem now is they want me to register the game online with a key. There is no key to be foud anywhere in the box. So copy protection literally won't allow me to play the game that I legitimately bought.

Any ideas as what to do? I tried finding a no-cd crack, but everyone says it makes the game crash constantly so that's not gonna help.

I thought I would compile a list of greenlight games that meet the criteria of point n click or myst style first person adventure or text adventures, anything adventure like basically.
Suggestions are always welcome, I will add them onto here.
Also I started a collection on steam too, if people want to have it all in the one place, there are other types of games on there too like RPG's, platformers etc.

Gray Matter was added to Steam Greenlight.

The same publisher also put up a few other adventure games, including Black Mirror 2 and 3. Wish the first was there as I've never played any of them and hate jumping into the middle of the series.

It's so weird that dtp has to go through Greenlight. Imagine if Valve made Activision do it for Black Ops 2? Almost seems unfair anyway.

Added them to the above list also thanks for reminding me, already voted for them all too.
Always thought it was odd Gray Matter never got a Steam release, especially with the Jane Jensen ties, her name alone should have pushed it forward. Probably more to do with the type of game Valve wanted on their service at the time, possibly.
Looks like The Black Mirror was published by another company, they probably still own the rights to the first game as its never been re-released from what I can see.

And this is where Valve will gain more power and influence in the industry - forcing established developers to compete with indie titles for distribution access to their platform.

edit - more appropriate for the Greenlight thread, and I don't want to derail the conversation, but I'll leave the comment up anyways.

SO Secret File 3 came out...too many games!
There is a demo on Steam if anyone wants to have a look.

Speaking of demos just downloaded and about to look at the demo for....

DEMO HERE!

The Cat Lady is a new, gory horror adventure game not for the faint hearted from designer R. Michalski, the creator of successful adventure game Downfall. A gripping story, pumping soundtrack, high-resolution artwork and voice acting will engross you on your journey through the strange and often terrifying world of The Cat Lady. 3 years in the making, it's an adventure not to be missed!

THE STORY
Susan Ashworth, known in her neighbourhood as the crazy Cat Lady, is a lonely 40-year old on the verge of suicide. She has no family, no friends and no hope for a better future.

One day she discovers that five strangers will come along and change everything... But those five, "The Parasites", are also the most ruthless, deranged and cold-blooded bunch of psychopaths the city has ever known. They will stop at nothing to hurt Susan. Unless, she hurts them first...

Susan's few weeks journey doesn't take her across the world and won't turn her into a hero. She has little faith in others and hardly even cares about herself. She can't fight and has never fired a gun in her life.

But she's hanging onto that thin thread of hope, that in the end, as promised, there's an illusive reward waiting for her. Something worth trying for. Something that'll help her find an unlikely friend. Something that'll give her life a purpose...

Susan's journey takes her on a rollercoaster ride between the world of the living and the world of the dead, where the only way to survive is to overcome her biggest weakness: her own self.

Also in my looking around for The Cat Lady demo I found a indie/AGS adventure bundle (5 games) pay what you want.

SUMMER BATCH VOLUME 1

Summerbatch is a collection of well made adventure games by indie developers who make them for fun, for work and for you. Volume 1 contains a selection of original games that have been made for you over the past few months. Buy the batch to support these great developers and donate through us to a worthy charity, SpecialEffect.

Are those games any good?

I've played the last 2 and they're strictly okay. Not bad but not great either. The Runaway games are pretty old and I've heard bad things about their writing. If you've never played any Pendulo game before, I'd suggest picking up one of them and seeing if you like their style. They have amazing artwork but I'm told a lot of the essence of the games are lost in localization.

And now it's my turn to ask the same question about the Sherlock Holmes pack.. are they worth playing?

Are those games any good?

For that price, sure, they're worth picking up if you like adventure games. They're decent enough; just don't expect classic LucasArts quality. The localization can be pretty awkward (Pendulo is Spanish, I believe), but the hand drawn graphics are quite attractive.

tl;dr Good for the price, just set your expectations appropriately.

I'm excited for Double Fine's 'The Cave'.

Which is ironically the obscure adventure game that they got funding for by a Publisher before starting the Kickstarter for Double Fine Adventure Game, where they pitched that it was impossible to find publisher support for obscure adventure games. :)

That said it looks amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FLmclyWB7o

(Not really a point and click adenture game, but I think its concept is really similar to the legendary Maniac Mansion, and it is Ron Gilbert's game.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm playing through Secret Files: Tunguska at the moment, and although it received mediocre reviews, I'm still enjoying it. So I'll probably enjoy those games too especially at those prices.

My wife and I played through The Next Big Thing. It wasn't the best Point and Click we've ever played, but it was pretty good.

EDIT: Caved on Summerbatch. I don't thin my wife will want to play a lot of these, but they'll keep me entertained.

Gamersgate is having a Halloween sale that includes some lesser known horror games (mostly PnC adventures) for peanuts. A lot of these aren't on Steam at all so it's a good spot to find games you might not find out about otherwise. GG's install process is a few more clicks than Steam but not troublesome, just download a small.exe that downloads and installs the game automatically. I have not played most of these but they look interesting and I bought a few unseen:

Barron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnarok $2.49
Cursed Mountain (apparently the Wii game got a PC port) $2.49
Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder $2.49
Darkness Within 2 $3.24
Dark Fall: Lost Souls $2.49
Dark Fall: Lights Out $2.50
You Are Empty $2.50
Barrow Hill $2.50
Enola (Alpha game still in development) $2.50
Black Mirror 2 $3.48
Black Mirror 3 $3.48
Dracula 2 The Last Sanctuary $7.49

Speaking of Primordia, looking like the new submission process from Valve means WadjetEye publisher needs to go through it all again.

Also DTP Publishing have put some more games up for greenlight, although alongside Gray Matter these may STILL not make Steam.

Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island
