Japanese Release Date: June 23, 2012

The Region

6j4B0.jpg

Pokémon Black and White 2 feature the return of the Unova region from Pokémon Black and White, only this time with a few twists. Players now begin their Pokémon journeys by choosing one of the original Starter Pokémon from Black and White (Snivy, Oshawott or Tepig) in Hiougi City, located in the previously-unreachable Southwestern part of Unova. This marks the first time the player's hometown has been a city. In the two years since the events of Pokémon Black and White, Unova has become populated by almost 150 more species of Pokémon from other regions such as Kanto and Johto, bringing the number of regional Pokémon up to 300--the largest amount in the series. Large sections of the Northern and Eastern Unova map appear to be obscured by ice... What could it mean? Find out as you traverse the numerous fields, caves and bridges that make up the Unova region.

The Characters

Players of Pokémon Black and White 2 will have their choice between two all-new trainers, each complete with their own tote bag, tights and ridiculous hairstyles stylin' headgear.

Your rival in Black and White 2 is a headstrong young man and the player character's best friend who feels very passionately about Pokémon battles. His catchphrase is, "I'm gonna rage!"

Cheren and Bianca, previously the player's rivals in Black and White, return in Black and White 2, albeit with new roles and looks. Cheren has taken the position of Normal-type Gym Leader from Lenora, and hands out the Basic Badge to trainers who can best him in battle. He is the first Gym Leader fought on your journey. Bianca now acts as a personal assistant to the conspicuously-absent Professor Juniper, and is entrusted with giving you and your rival your Starter Pokémon.

Ghle3.jpg

Achroma is a mysterious scientist who studies the strength of Pokémon. He seems to be connected to Team Plasma somehow...

mVoZ8.png

Natural Harmonia Gropius (or just N for short) is the former emperor of Team Plasma who suddenly disappeared two years ago on the back of a Dragon-type legendary. His whereabouts are currently unknown...

The Villainous Team

After spending two years in hiding, the evil Team PETA Plasma is suddenly on the move again, and sporting slightly-less-ridiculous outfits to boot. What could their motives be?

New Features

Pokéwood replaces Musicals as the main distraction from your Pokéquest. This new feature allows you to create movies by mixing-and-matching various scenarios, including battle scenes that allow you to go head-to-toe against a GIANT MECHA TYRANITAR, dialogue scenes which involve selecting the right lines to make your movie as dramatic and/or nonsensically silly as possible.

QQKOm.jpg

The Pokémon World Championship, in an act that is sure to make long-time fans of the series swoon with nostalgia, brings together the best of the best Gym Leaders, Champions and other powerful trainers from all across the PokéWorld for a good old-fashioned tourney. Players can challenge these trainers to heated, one-on-one battles in a bid to win the PokéRespect of the greatest trainers that have ever lived.

Fes Missions, accessed through the Entralink, are special wireless missions that range from fetch quests to battle challenges. Players can complete them for such delectable rewards as Rare Candies and Pass Orbs. Fes Missions can be completed alone; or by two or more players.

ArVkx.png

Join Avenue is a special place within the Unova region that grows and changes the more you interact with people of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and local wireless. Players met will open up shops withing the avenue, from which you can buy special items.

Much like achievements, players of Pokémon Black and White 2 can unlock special medals by completing certain conditions such as winning battles and catching Pokémon. You can display your favourite on your Trainer Card for the whole world to see!

Love the title, Scrafty. Time to bail out and go on a blackout. Hopefully this is an August NA release...

Let it be known: he chose my |OT| tag for this one, guys.

Saturday's going to be fun, though it'll take importers a while to get copies from Japan. NicoNico Douga's our friend until then.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
New male looks stupid and the fact they froze half the region to introduce new cities to the region is a bit "wut."

The ending of Black/White pretty much outed they were going to do a sequel, so why didn't they just keep the two kids from the previous outing/BW and just age them two years or whatever!? WHY!? They look 20x better than the kids here. :|

Also I'm glad that B/W2 are giving the cover legendaries to their TITLE game. I'm going to be unevolving Zekrom to his B/W1 look and leaving Ugly Reshiram in it's much better but still ugly B/W2 look.

Looks like I'm getting Tepig as my starter if that Piplup thing comes to the US. I've always wanted to beat a Pokemon game with more than one starter Pokemon legitimatley.

No one said the region's frozen. Just the map.

It would kill the jumping-on potential. Nintendo wants people to be able to pick up any Pokémon game and play it all the way through, regardless of past experience.

That's actually Kyurem, not Reshi/Zek, so you can't "unevolve" it.

And... having a recap within five minutes wouldn't solve that? "N got away and you have to find him... and rebattle gym leaders because you didn't beat the E4, so they took your badges away" or something. AT LEAST BE CONSISTENT if you're doing sequels. No "oh, a new kid finishes what kid 1 started! YAY!"

Whatever. The point is: White 1's cover legendary (which should be Blacks, IMO) > Black 2's cover legendary >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> White 2's Cover Legendary >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Black 1's (which should be Whites, IMO) cover legendary.

Nothing wrong with a new kid on the block. But everything wrong when he looks like a dumpster!

I can see a recap being awkward, implying that the kid playing this game has "missed out" on the previous game. Black & White may have been plot-driven, but this game's about viewing Unova through a new perspective, well-after the ruckus.

But you can still go and beat the Elite Four and Champion in B/W. They'd need to think of an excuse for you to not have level 60 Pokemon already too.

Not all sequels need to have the same player characters.
