And to think, all those months ago I was annoyed that my only perfect Pokémon was a Geodude. Fortunately, I got the best moves when I evolved him to Golum!
I'm still in Chicago, staying right by the park. There are hundreds of people going around to each legendary raid.

What do you mean by guaranteed catch? Is every single person in Chicago catching the birds on their first ball without fail over and over again? Because that's not the case in the rest of the world. Mine ran on me and people on Reddit are having them run as well.

Jeesh, now I'm said I left the city. Maybe I'll drive back tonight when traffic clears up and hope there are enough to raid with me.
4 out of 5 were green ring, if you hit it with a ball you caught it.
Raids are over for the night., the literal word on the street was they'll be happening through Monday. I'll update in the morning.

Caught an Articuno with my gf. Plan to come back to catch a Lugia later.
The whole downtown area was crazy with all those legendaries. It was utterly crowded like crazy. Every raid battle had like 20 people there.

Wouldn't it act like normal raids then? Those end by 10 pm anyways most nights

Articunos and Lugias were everywhere here in LA.
Went to two for Articuno, didn't catch either. My friend who was with me caught two for two. I'm super jealous.

Did 3 Legendary raids. Two Lugia and an Articuno.
Didn't catch any of them.
Girlfriend's brother caught the first Lugia (and a wonder at that), and my girlfriend caught the second Lugia (with a critical capture) and the Articuno (first ball that hit). Sucks yo.

Just a heads up for anyone unsure, rare candies still only get turned into one new candy. That may be well-known, but just in case anyone was curious and hadn't tried it.

Someone who's actually fought one will give you a better answer, but I'd guess strong fire types - fire resists ice and ice is weak to fire. Rock (and electric) vs flying work the same way, but i think rock is weak to ice moves.
Edit: and now I'm sitting at an Articuno raid without a single other person around. God damn it.

Omastar with two rock moves and Golem with two rock moves. Tyrannitar too.
Anything with Rock, Fire, Electric and Steel attacks. Tyranitar with Stone Edge is best, but Flareon, Arcanine, Golem, Jolteon, Omastar, Kabutops, Steelix, Rhydon are also decent. Golem and Rhydon are weak against Ice so their asses may get whooped by Articuno's special attack.

I don't think so. It makes weird choices pretty often, too. Gotta rearrange them if you need to be strategic.

So I am in Greece during this event and I really could only just catch a few Pokémon. How do we get the rare Chicago mon when I get back to the states? I guess the answer is unless you were in Chicago we dont know?

The after festival is what pokemon Go fest shoulda been. Just going out to catch them. Wander around downtown to spots and catch them as they appear.
The whole downtown area became infested with Articuno and Lugia in all the gyms. People were walking or running from one spot to the next. Hell, Trump's Tower and Blue Cross were all crowded spots. People were all happy and laughing, kids having a good time and people walking in groups. I didn't attend the festival but getting to be a part of the legendary spawns made me feel like I was a part of something amazing. Seeing a bunch of lures out, legendary Pokemon flying everywhere and seeing the Go Fest icons were all nice touches. People on Facebook groups saying this is when the real festival started.
I was also so happy to see how happy my gf was when she caught an Articuno for the first time since it was her favorite Pokemon. That smile won't ever leave me.
Overall, even though I saw how much of a shit fest it was earlier in the day, Niantic was able to deliver a fun experience in this city.

Got both legendaries in Australia today. Beautiful weather, went for a big walk with a friend and caught/hatched a bunch of stuff then ot a group of 10 together to hit both legendaries. Lot's of random people dropping by as well. Not like launch, but still brings back some of the community vibe!

Did three Lugia raids after work and didn't catch any of them.

Gonna go crazy catching Pokemon after work tomorrow to get stardust, might buy a bunch of incubators too. Reduced egg distance + double stardust = $$$

Well it started Saturday night and they said 48 hours... So Monday night sometime? Seems fucking weak though. Should be a week minimum.

I just tried a raid, but I didn't understand how it worked. So you have to actually stay there and fight like with a gym? There's no way I will get any others showing up randomly to help around here.
What's the difference between an egg and a raid boss? Is the egg just to warn you that something's coming?

The egg is the raid boss, after a 2 hour timer the egg hatches and the boss comes out. Can do anything until it hatches
