Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

So if I were to go on a walk with this, do I have to have the phone on at all times?

Do Pokemon level up on walks or nah?

Went to a cemetery littered with pokestops today, and even though it had zero pokemon until I used incense to attract some of the common ones it was still pretty cool. Each stop in the area were important graves and memorials.

Makes me wonder if museums could strike deals to make selfguided tours that tie into the app. Go to a piece of art, learn a little about it, get 5 pokeballs.

I've lived in this house for almost two years, and I had only ever been to the park right next door once in that time.

I've been there three times today to refuel the gym and hit a couple Pokestops.

Man these kids keep doing chip damage to the leader and killing my Golbat, but I just heal him up and put him back, even stronger than before. And now some other guy put his Weepinbell on the gym, so between the three of us, and with me being able to quickly go over and replenish my fallen Pokemon, I'm hoping to hold onto to this for a bit. I wish I knew the leader, I could warn him to come heal his Venomoth.

The park is so busy on Sundays though... I'm not confident we'll hold it. But by the power of lord Zapdos, we'll die trying!

Yes.

Not really. Instead of leveling up Pokemon you power them up and evolve them by using stardust and candy. Every time you catch a Pokemon of a certain species you get 3 of that species candy (and a fourth if you transfer it to the professor). You get 100 stardust for every Pokemon you catch.

Made some good progress today, got to level 4. Went to my GFs place, load the game up and it's asking me to sign up again?! Is this a known bug? I can't seem to find where to login. I used the Google option.

Edit: Server Issues. Ignore me I guess lol

No one knows the date. They've delayed releasing it in other countries due to server issues.

Android users downloaded the APK and iPhone users have created an American or Australian account to download it.

im in the uk on an Australian itunes acc, but i wonder what servers we are connecting to.

I've not had any server issues at all, minus a few hangs here and there. It's been going strong.

LOL I saw a couple arguing in the park about this. The guy's phone died so he wanted to go home and charge up, but the girl had a Pikachu on her radar that she apparently REALLY wanted. She was like "fuck you, I'm going to get him" and walked away from him.

I probably should've mentioned to them that Pikachus are ALWAYS at the park but eh..

Okay, I'm pretty confident the data is not (solely) from Ingress. I just booted up Ingress to check and there's a portal in the same spot as my PokeStation, sure, but the Ingress portal is unowned/unclaimed, which seems implausible if it was consciously submitted by a user as presumably they'd then go claim it. Niantic must be drawing data from somewhere else too.
As in Pokemon Go, it's very easy for portals to constantly switch teams and ownership. In addition, the 8 resonators that must be planted to claim the portal for your team, slowly begin draining over an extended period of time. So you can imagine after so much time, the resonators dissapear and release the portal to a blank state once more.

The game is absolutely drawing it's pokestop database from Ingress, without a doubt.

Opinion time: Sludge Bomb or Power Whip?

Sludge Bomb. 100 power (50 over 2 bubbles) against Power Whip's 50 (60 over 1 bubble), and there are barely any Steel or Ghost types so it has essentially three resists, Poison, Ground and Rock, to Grass' god knows how many.

nevermind, i reached level 8 and did not get my rewards, damn I wanted to use a lure modulator since i wont go out at night.

Got it. Thought losing would at least give the gym more prestige. Also, is the only way to store a Pokemon at a gym is to actually win a battle and raise the prestige so it allows for another Pokemon?
yep, when a friendly gym levels up a button will show up in the bottom left of the screen to place a pokemon there. oh and you can only select fully healed pokemon.

Gym fights are a trainwreck. Laggy as fuck and they do not even remotely describe how fighting works.

Yea, it's pretty bad. They have been lagging for me alot today and the whole dodge mechanic is shady. I only bother attempting to dodge on the special attacks.

Really wish they would just use the normal battle mechanic. Not sure why they didn't do that. i guess they wanted the fights to be fast paced since it's a mobile game.

I don't see the value in taking over gyms after you have your 10 coins for the day. It's a waste of resources and the payoff in exp isn't that great.

I think I'm gonna stop fighting for them.

It's seems like this game is making its rounds because one of my managers at my job is playing it. Maybe I should download this app and try it out considering I got tomorrow off.

One of the rare times I'm jealous of iOS. Can't play it on my Android phone due to server issues but works fine on their iPhone's. Only started it last night because I didn't want to deal with server issues too much. Argh.

Man, this game is something special. I ran into at least five different friends from high school walking around the neighborhood catching Pokemon today. Just spent the last two hours walking and chatting with one of them. So fun.

I also witnessed a gym change through all three teams in five minutes. Dude in a car just drove up and parked and I thought nothing of it. I look back down at the game and the bastard took my gym. That's how I made friends with some dude in a car.

The nearest gym by me was taken over by Instinct earlier but only lasted a few hours as Mystic took it back. I then saw that people were trying to take it two times after that and it didn't work. I think Mystic has that locked down

Hit the item limit and I don't know what to do. I can't seem to get rid of stuff fast enough. That bag upgrade is tempting but I vowed to not buy anything unless it was with Play credit and I don't have enough built up. Aaagghhh

evolution animation is terrible lol

*zoom in on pokemons butt*

*pokemon awkwardly begins to levitate while clipping in and out of white blob, still zoomed intently on pokemon butt*

Your Pokemon evolved!

*awkwardly floats slightly off screen*

cuts off evolution music before it ends

I love the sense of community surrounding this game, i will be excited to see what future upgrades will bring, because although its great now. This game could be some much more.

Give in to the dark side. You must to be the very best.

Yes, has to be open. Only eggs get steps counted; pkmn won't level up.

Thanks. I'll be charging this phone up for my walk.

On the item screen, there's a trash can icon on the right side, lined up with the items. Click it, choose how many of that item you want to get rid of, and viola! open space. Hold on to a bunch of pokeballs though, I threw a bunch away because I had 200+, but now I have <40 after a few hours of hunting with friends.

If I had to come up with a fake description of what I thought a game like this could do for social community interaction, like a best case proof of concept, my actual day today would beat it.

Just went back and hung out at the park with the guy there that dropped the lure just like he said he would. Another couple rolled up too. An hour was gone like that. Got a bulbasaur.

Finally got it working (UK). There was a pidgey in my living room.

How do the Pokémon spawns work? What exactly is it pulling from Ingress? Just pokestop locations?

My brother downloaded it earlier today. He was having no luck finding anything (think it was just issues being on android). Got this text while at work.

Guess riding your bike while looking for Pokemon might not be the best idea.

You're a horrible person! :p

Yeah, I just saw that too. I have over 200 pokeballs too but only tossed 10 or so to make room. I think I'm going to have to spend a lot of time hunting tomorrow to get rid of some.

Anyone know if you still get xp from pokestops even if your inventory is full?

So what kinda movesets are good? High power Normal moves or Matched type moves

most special-type moves I come across are pretty weak

*training a Psyduck with Cross Chop* o_O

I'm sore from just two days of walking.

Today was gonna be a rest day, but then I glanced at the map and somebody had set off a lure nearby.

Was out for 2 hours because of that. :/

Why does everybody have AR on?

It's neat for taking pictures and showing to people, but it makes catching Pokemon incredibly difficult.

I'll never understand this absolute refusal to throw a couple of bucks to a free app you're genuinely enjoying and sinking time into. It was free. You're enjoying it enough that you actually hit your item limit. I'd say Niantic has at least earned a few of your dollars.
